A puzzle boss from, as far as I'm aware, before they were really a thing. I always wished The Sorrow had somehow gotten more development or backstory as he's inherently the most fascinating of the Cobras, being already dead, and so tied into the personal story of the Boss and everything she does. Haven't played this game for years but I still remember this encounter as one of the cleverest boss fights I've ever played. And the radio call at the end only makes the whole experience more unnerving when you realize what just happened.

Lol my Older brother trolled me for years man.He told me the only way you beat "The Sorrow" is if you take pictures of all the Enemies you killed while they walk past you.I did that over a dozen times and never beat him that way. Until 6th grade where I finally beat him because I looked up a YT vid. So instead of beating this game in 2007, I finally beat it in 2012
Sorrow is the best character in this game, I lost my cool when during Volgin boss battle cutscenes pressed R1 and seeing him waltzing around with countdown timer, I still amazed at how Kojima can make his games both serious and hilarious.

Kojima wanted to create an mgs game that focuses on the cobras and the boss when he was still in konami but he decline his own idea for 2 reasons: 1.he doesnt believe he has a good story telling team for the game(he has other people thinking for him as well) 2. he doesnt like the current engine of that time.
This is the pinnacle of avant-garde, “punk” game design. The fire contrasting the water, the empty health bar, the freaky meta death mechanics showing up ingame (codec calls)… everything is great.
During one of my play throughs of this game . I slashed a soldiers throat , a vulture land's on starts eating him I kill the vulture . Later eat it and when I did this lvl a soldier with a slashed throat and a vulture on his back accused me of eating him.

That’s the amazing thing about MGS and Hideo, when I first played this game I must have been around 19 years old. This boss battle took forever and found out later thats because I killed a lot of people, lolz. One of the most unique bosses but now I want to play this game again many years later.
here's a trick I discovered. even if u kill everyone under the sun you don't have to worry about running through the whole thing. Drown yourself. (yes that is correct) then just take the revival pill. whole boss battle...15 seconds XD

Apparently. He was an extremely talented medium. So I guess he must have been a great psychologist for his unit. He may not master battle powers of fire like The Fury, the power of controlling hornets like The Pain or being an incredibly talented hunter like The Fear. He mastered the power of understanding what war does to people. And trying to heal people out of Sorrow.
Very impressive, I did this boss battle and it took me nearly an hour. I was a savage in the game and went out of my way to off any hapless soldier that I could otherwise sneak by. Even wasted volkoffs lover after I stuffed him in a locker. Figured out after this, that that comes back to haunt you and the more you do, the longer you have to press on to escape it. It took me like 1-2 weeks to figure out how to beat this guy. It was 2005@2006, I was 15-16 at that time, where internet was barely available at that time, and I was the only one who played this in my neighbourhood. So, I have no one/way to ask for a guide or tips whatsoever. This game literally helps developed/push my critical thinking skils to the max. This is one of the very few games that will always have a special place in my heart.
I remember the first time I played this game I was going for a Brock Samson run: naked and with just a knife full genocide mode. When I got here it took me 2 hours to walk through this.
When I first faced the sorro long ago for the first time it gave me chills for sure. I didn't know how to beat The Sorro for the first few tries then I finally I realised you need to take that revival pill to wake up because snake was just dreaming in this part.
Remember playing MGS3 first playthrough. Just running through killing every soldier and dog I bumped into. Got to the sorrow. Instantly regretted it. Died at least 20 times. Till I got through.
I was stuck for SO FREAKING LONG until I actually thought of the revival pill! one of the very few games that I really love to this day. Just a shame that MGSV gets nowhere near this absolute masterpiece.

Snake/Big Boss was practically Almost Dead during the entire Boss Fight. it's just that the sorrow doesn't want him to die just yet.
Right before Shagohag goes on the loose we can see The Sorrow floating around smiling showing us the timer soon going off.

The Sorrow does have a flair for the dramatic, something that Ocelot inherited.

When I first faced the sorro long ago for the first time it gave me chills for sure. I didn't know how to beat The Sorro for the first few tries then I finally I realised you need to take that revival pill to wake up because snake was just dreaming in this part.
Remember playing MGS3 first playthrough. Just running through killing every soldier and dog I bumped into. Got to the sorrow. Instantly regretted it. Died at least 20 times. Till I got through.
I remember I used to get frightened playing this mission.
I was stuck for SO FREAKING LONG until I actually thought of the revival pill! one of the very few games that I really love to this day.
Just a shame that MGSV gets nowhere near this absolute masterpiece.

Heh... I killed sooooo many enemies in my first playthrough. This fight was quite the ordeal for me, especially when I didn't think to use the revival pill and started over. Twice.
