Bane: “Nobody cared who I was til I put on the mask”
@callmecatalyst Not to mention the thing he wears in Mad Max Fury Road. I’m starting to think wearing masks are part of his contracts.
This comment made me laugh so much, good one bro!!! :D
@Artūrs Boss I aim to please
Or maybe no one cared who I was when I took of the mask and became venom
she missed saito as well. He was the fake ras al ghul
Just a quick correction: at 7:30, you said that Tom Hardy wasn't in The Dark Knight Rises. He was, actually. He was Bane.
and Saito was in Batman begins as Ra's Al'Gul decoy. Pretty much the entire cast is from the Dark Knight trilogy.
She said Tom Hardy wasn't in The Dark Knight and she's right.

Yup, can confirm. Tom Hardy. And if she knows Talia, she should know Bane.

@@modrenwarefare neither was Talia or Robin, yet she still recognised them.
Good question about Cobb's totem. He can probably still kind of use Mal's totem because he's the only living person who knows it well, and he sort of "stole" ownership of it from her when he used it to perform inception on her without her knowledge, but he does actually seem to have his own totem too: his wedding ring. He only wears it in scenes inside dreams, whereas in reality he doesn't wear it. It represents his subconscious' inability to let go of Mal, since he still dreams of himself as married to her.
I'm suddenly starting to wonder if his children are his totem. He can't see their faces when he's dreaming.
@@Soulsphere001 well, not that he cant see their faces while dreaming but that he doesnt want to. he has a hard enough time as it is distinguishing whats a dream and whats reality. his memories of them are fleeting since hes been gone so long and his dream is the only place he can "see" them clearly. he doesnt want what they look like in the dream to be his reality.
Technically neither the top nor the ring are totems, at least not the ring, assuming Arthur’s definition is correct. The idea is to have something unique in reality. The ring is not on his person in reality, so if somebody put him in a dream without his ring there would be nothing to tip him off. The ring is probably better seen as an indication as to what he BELIEVES. As such the end could just be him thinking Mal is truly dead.
And the top is also not a totem as described by Cobb, since it isn’t unique in reality (it’s just a top lol). But this assumes he isn’t lying about the properties of the top. Maybe it just weighs a lot. What do I know?
He could also be mistaken since he is altering his own memories every night.
@@julianw7097 The thing is that what kept him in his dream was Mal. Once he accept that she was gone, felt the hurt by acknowledging it as well as easing his guilt by telling himself that they had their time together and that he kind of did fulfill his promise that they would get old together, he was ready to go back to reality. He choose reality (his children) over his dreams/imagination (being together in Mal). There was nothing to stick around in his dreams anymore. So there is little chance that he sticked around in Limbo and just pretended that he got back his kids. It just wouldnt fit together well. And the whole movie is about doing inception on oneself by choosing reality over imagination. By defining oneself with whats truly important to us.
@@SETHthegodofchaos None of what you just wrote contradicts what I said. Also, I don’t think he chose to stay in limbo. Although I do believe the ending is still a dream.
Hey Duaffy idk if you’ll see this but I just wanted to say that your reactions are really helping me. Both of my parents are diagnosed with stage 4 cancer so I spend most of my days depressed and anxious that any day could be my parents last. Your videos are the only thing that keep me going because watching movies along with you makes me forget all the problems I have going on at home. Love you Duaffy!!❤️ you’ve got no idea how much your videos help me
Oh dear God Jeremy... It saddens me so much to hear what you are going through 😢 I wish I could give you a big hug, and just stay like that for a while. I know it won't help to solve your problems, but because you have to stay mentally strong for your parents I know how hard and exhausting it can get, so my intention with a hug is to let you rest for a while from that pressure. My mother has been through a tough disease herself, and up until recently she was almost dead. Creating videos, streaming, going to work, or even smile, was very hard. But when I saw people were happy, that was my comfort. So telling me this means A LOT, because it's my purpose: whether it's a game, a joke, a movie, a series, if it helps, I consider it worth it. Keep enjoying the company of your parents, keep being who you are, and be proud of yourself, for I am sure they are proud of you. If you ever need to talk, you can send me an email (it's in the "About" section from my RUclips. I would say Instagram, but I receive so many messages that I would not get there on time). Stay safe 💖

Michael Caine stated that every scene that he is in, happens in reality. So, the ending is real. The children wear different clothes as well, compared to Cobbs last memory of them. But it's very subtle - Nolan insisted on preserving the ambiguity and the film is all the better for it. Inception is imo his crowning masterpiece.
In the end of credits u can listen totem falls, check it.

@Oodama Chisengan Eh, some people have the personality/charisma to pull it off. Duaffy has only done one re-watch so far that I'm aware: "Guardians of the Galaxy"... which I haven't watched (since the MCU holds no interest for me), so I can't speak to how well she might be able to make the video work.
The Prestige duaffy!! U gotta do it!

So funny what you said about water and ice. When I was in Argentina, nobody understood why we had water with ice haha.
Nolan has said in interviews that the top’s wobble is NOT a fake out, and he is in reality at the end.
Interviews aren't part of the storytelling though.
@@jp3813 I mean, if the writer and director tells you his intent, surely that means something. Obviously anyone is free to interpret it as they wish.

@@maxducoudray I'm just saying what was shown in the movie.
The totem at the end... the shot was cut away at a point that is supposed to leave doubts in the audience as to whether the reality that we've seen from which all the other nested dreams are entered from or, if in fact that reality we thought was reality was in fact yet another dream. It's purposeful.
Was in 11th grade when it came out and me and a few buddies went on saturday to see it. We came out of the theater, argued in the parking lot for a few minutes about the ending and went right back in to see it again. Came out still perplexed and amazed and scraped up enough money to go back in. That entire saturday was inception. It was great
Think this was a smart move my Nolan. Imagine how many people went back a 2nd or 3rd time to try and make sense of it all. I didnt have the pleasure of watching it in theaters but when i first saw it i had to rewatch this movie a few times to answer my questions. Lol. This comment wins.

- Tom Hardy as Bane
He doesn't care at the end if he is in a dream or not, that's why he leaves the totem alone, he is with his children, and they want us to don't care either. But i think they confirmed this is the real world.
When a movie title is used as an adjective in pop culture you know it’s good
I love seeing people have civil debates about whether or not the ending was real. There's arguments and clues for both, but Cobb didn't care. Soon as he spun the dreidel he walked away the moment he saw his kids. You can make your mind if he was in a dream or not 🤷🏽♂️
The Question as to whether Cobb is in a dream or back with his children, and the spinning totem, is answered by what his children are wearing, in his dreams earlier on in the film whenever we encounter his children, the girls dress is all red, and at the end of the film they have white sleeves, this is clearly a very deliberate move by Christopher Nolan. If Cobb was still in the dream state, his children's clothes would be identical not NEARLY identical, the fact Nolan chose to make them nearly but not quite identical, shows he is trying to signify that this is "different" from his dream state, this is Reality !
Also you can tell by the way his daughter in his dream state runs, she is younger than the actress at the end of the film by a year or two.
I enjoy watching your reactions and the "commentary" you have with yourself, or your "thinking out loud." It appears you have a keen mind and are often capable of connecting dots in a story that may not on the surface seem logical. It is a good trait to have. This commentary you make at the end of this film is very much something that has appeared in past literature...... specifically, Edgar Allan Poe. He has a quote that says something like, "All that we see or seem/is but a dream within a dream." Your commentary specifically about this movie reminds me of that. Great reaction to a very great movie that is difficult to follow!
There are still so many masterpieces of Nolan,Scorsese that patiently wait for your reaction (Interstellar, Shutter Island...) and so we are :)
(And btw i hope one day you ll get into Clone Wars)
If you ever have any nagging questions about a Christopher Nolan film, it's just best to rewatch it again.
Going into his movies a second time, it'll be easier to follow the story and better connect the dots of any theories.
Also fun fact, in the trailer and throughout the movie, Hans Zimmer uses a "fog horn" sound effect, which became extremely popular in movie trailers during the last decade. If you watch any action movie trailer from the past 10 years, you'll most likely hear it in some variation
Yes, Christopher Nolan has a tendency to cast the same actors in many of his films:
-Michael Caine has been in all of his films since "Batman Begins" (well, he only had a voice cameo in "Dunkirk")
-Christian Bale was in all 3 Batman movies and "The Prestige"
-Cillian Murphy was in this, all 3 Batman movies, and "Dunkirk"
-Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman were both in all 3 Batman movies
-Liam Neeson was in "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight Rises"
-Ken Watanabe was in this and "Batman Begins"
-Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt were both in this and "The Dark Knight Rises"
-Tom Hardy was in this, "The Dark Knight Rises," and "Dunkirk"
-Anne Hathaway was in "The Dark Knight Rises" and "Interstellar"
-Kenneth Branagh was in "Dunkirk" and "Tenet"
-Martin Donovan was in "Insomnia" and "Tenet"
-Mark Boone Junior was in "Memento" and "Batman Begins"
Cabb's actual totem was his wedding ring - it proved that he wasn't in somebody's dream, he used Mal's totem only to be sure that he wasn't stuck in his own dream!
Tops can wobble and right themselves before they fall. Just means they’re slowing down. There was no special effect used there to show that. It cuts away from it to leave it as an open question of whether or not he’s awake. Nolan definitely likes to use actors he’s comfortable with. The actors who play Robin, Scarecrow, Bane, Alfred, the fake Ras Al Ghul from up in the mountains, Talia/Miranda are all in this. You should watch The Prestige. It’s not as well-known as some of Nolan’s other work, but it’s one of his best. Michael Kane (Alfred) and Christian Bale (Batman) are both in that one, along with Hugh Jackman and Scarlett Johansson.
Shutter Island with Leo Dicaprio is a good movie to react to!
The best Inception reaction line EVER!!!!!!!
"This ain't normal!!!"
One note: the children are always playing in the garden and always wearing the same clothes. Clearly they are only memories.
7:33 He's not from The Dark Knight but from The Dark Knight Rises. He is Tom Hardy, the actor who played as Bane.
Yep, one of my top 5 movies of all time. The originality is off the scale and absolutely love the reaction. You brain broke just like most people after this movie came out.
Cobb was on the run for about half of year so children didnt rise too much.
Nolan himself said that ending scene is real world cause "children are the other actors in that scene then all dreams scenes."
You have a really good grasp of the movie. Most people don't consider that the whole movie was a dream until later viewings. I'm of the opinion that he has been stuck in a deep layer of dreams since he left limbo with Mal and Mal was right and that their life in that level was a dream. She woke up and is waiting for him to wake up. I once saw a really good breakdown of the movie here on RUclips where the speaker talked about how the top doesn't matter because it doesn't behave like a totem should. I can't find that video anymore though, otherwise I'd link it.
Love your genuine reactions, Duaffy! Keep it coming :)
Duaffy: “Cobb still has the high ground.”
Mal: “You underestimate my power!”
Cool fact: the opening music is the "kick" French song slowed down so much that it just sounds like a loud "BRAWWWNG". Nolan worked with Zimmer to cultivate the signature sound. What this means is that is how the the music sounds through all the dreams into limbo.
I like to think that Cobb is still stuck in between dream levels, not realizing that there are dream levels above him.
The ending is real because he can see if the kids faces. The top continues to spin because Christopher Nolan is showing how you can be incepted. ;-)
I was obsessed with this movie. I have extremely vivid dreams, and have experienced a few dreams within dreams, that feel like months take place within them in a single night. I went to the midnight premiere of this movie, and saw it several times over 2 weeks. During those 2 weeks my dreams exploded, I saw many variations of my hometown, dreamt of places that didn't exist, and even connected several of those places together over several dreams. Like the characters I know I'm dreaming, but rather then messing with anything consciously, I played them out like a video game with me as the main character. I'd say the most jarring thing is to fall asleep in the dream in some random place and wake up in my room in reality.
Yeah, I also think one of the possibilities for Cobb still being trapped in a dream/limbo is that inception has been performed on him, where the idea is: *if* he is able to pull off “one last job”, he can “go home” and “see his children’s faces” again. Like the old man in Mombasa said, for Cobb, (perhaps) the dream has become reality, and who are others to say otherwise?
Who was it who performed this inception on Cobb? Well, I think, if this is what happened, then a good possibility is that it was Cobb himself. As Arthur realized after Eames outlined what he had in mind, “so he gives himself the idea”. And we know from the entire heist attempt, that is at least plausible as a possibility. Or, perhaps it inadvertently just resulted from the collective actions of Saigon and the entire crew. Yusuf did let on that Cobb promised him his whole share of the job..
ive watched a lot of your reactions and i really like your style. Also, your predictions are incredibly on point! Keep doing you!
The questions you asked were on point, you had such a really awesome grasp of this film far more in depth than most people on their first watch. Cobb's real Totem is his wedding ring. In the dream he's wearing his ring, in real life he doesn't have it on. He is awake at the end if you pay very close attention but Nolan gave us the cliff hanger ending just to mess with us. Great reaction regardless! Rewatch it again sometimes and in hindsight you'll see how everything fits together really well.
“Ah so you think darkness is your ally? You merely adopted the dark. I was born in it.”
Mr Saito's actor (Ken Watanabe) was playing fake Ra's al Ghul at the beginning of Batman Begins too ^^ and Tom Hardy played Bane in The Dark Knight Rises and plays Eames here :)
Fun fact: The explosion at the cafe when they're sitting while talking was real, the actors were there, they just add a little CGI elements after ^^ there is very few CGI, almost only practical effects
This is a true mindfuck of a movie and I love it. I highly recommend you check out Primer, and The Discovery for more of the same kind of reality-bending film
I'm surprised you didn't mention that Fischer is also in Batman begins and Dark Knight (he was Scarecrow). And obviously Tom hardy is Bane. So basically Inception stars the cast of Dark Knight Trilogy.
Cobb was awake at the end. Him being in a dream is what you are supposed to question because he did not wait for the tabletop to fall when he saw his children. so to him in the end it did not matter once he saw his kids. but he is awake. He only wears his engagement ring when he is in the dream world (it is his own totem) and he does not wear it in reality.
I liked that you put together the "waiting to die alone" lines... I've seen a lot of other reactors not notice that AT ALL!
Also the guy u said isn't from the dark knight plays Bane in the dark knight rises. Check out Bronson with him ( Tom Hardy)
There has been analysis frame to frame of the totem to try to figure out if it would fall or not. I think it would fall, after the credits, but since this is Mal totem, this doesn't need to matter at all.
There is another option, it's possible that it wasn't Mal the one who believe the limbo was real, but him. And everything else that follows, is himself trying to maintain that facade.
So many possibilities. This is one of the reasons, i love this movie.
Also guys. She kept saying he's not from the Dark Knight. She is right. Hardy was Bane in the Dark Knight Rises and not in the Dark Knight. She did miss that the mark played Doctor Crane (Scarecrow) in both Batman Begins and the Dark Knight.
17:54 Exactly!
It’s VERY hard to stay calm, even if you have lucid dreams all the time with no one else in your head! The mind doesn’t respond well to knowing everything around you isn’t real. It is desperate to wake up.
I’ve only managed to be lucid for a couple of seconds, tops.
And the discussion about the end begins...
Btw, Tom Hardy it's Bane, so he is on Dark Knight Returns, Nolan use actors from other movies, like Tarantino and Scorsese, it's a normal thing
Duaffy is so intelligent
Hans Zimmer- “You’re so cool” always puts me in a good mood.
It is a very important movie
Its the Matrix of the 2010s
I think he's awake because it doesn't wobble in the earlier dream scenes. But his children playing in the same spot makes it seem like he is dreaming. It's the ultimate frustrating end to symbolize that YOUR reality is reality. Nothing exists if something intelligent isn't there to witness it. Schrodinger's Cat...when you're in a room alone, you're both alive and dead. You exist and you don't. Because there's no observer to discern that.
Nolan's movies are usually filed with familiar faces if you've seen the Batman trilogy. He likes to cast actors he knows and most of the time, they all love working with him because they know they're in for a great experience storywise, and the audience knows they're likely gonna see or experience things in his movie that blows their minds, makes them think, makes them feel, and in the best cases, all three at once.
You are right. He was living in a dream where his wife died. I'll proceed to explain the plot.
The movie is about an Inception on Cobb (not Fischer).
Through out the whole movie, Saito and others made an Inception on Cobb, who was trapped in the dream world. They told him different stuff on each dream level, so that in the next level his subconcious would aknowledge that stuff. I've started to realise these little details around my 7th time watching the movie.
The inception comes full circle at the last scene in limbo, where Cobb is talking to Saito:
Saito: I'm an old man...
Cobb: Filled with regret (this is what Saito should have said next, so Cobb is actually completing Saito's speech, and therefore telling this to himself).
Saito: Waiting to die alone.
From this point on, Cobb will try to convince Saito to come back, telling him stuff but at the same time realising something:
Cobb: I've come back for you, to remind you something (as he tells this to Saito, he realises that it's the same thing that Saito did for him. Saito came to the dream world to remind Cobb of something)... something you once knew. That this world is not real.
Saito: To convince me to honor our arrengement? (every single line Saito says is on purpose, so that Cobb would recall those implanted ideas and finish the phrases)
Cobb: to take a leap of faith, yes (the same exact thing Saito said to him when they first met at the helicopter. This is the break point. At this moment, Cobb realises that Saito gave him the same advice. Now he believes in the leap of faith, so now he knows Mal was right, that he should have jumped with her, a.k.a. take a leap of faith).
Cobb: come back, so we can be young men toghether again. Come back with me.
Then he wakes up in the real world, at the plane with the others, after a succesful Inception and rescue.
Imo, Mal is still alive, just purposedly not shown to us (like she could be in a different room in the house at the end, or something). Or she could have died in the actual real world, but i doubt it. Cobb doesn't stay to see the top because he now knows its gonna stop, and rather goes see his children. He also knows Mal's totem doesn't work for him, as it's lost its purpose once he took it from the safe.
EDIT: About the top, the top was Mal's totem. The characteristic that gave it purpose was only known by Mal (could of been its weight, its size, or anything really). It was not the spin. She wanted to stay in limbo, so she chose to put it away in a safe, and forget about it.
Cobb took it, and implanted the idea in her mind that the top would stop if it was reality, and otherwise it'd keep spinning if it was a dream. This way, he was able to take Mal out of Limbo. The problem is that he ended believing his own lie, he implanted it in himself basically, so he thought for sure that the top stopped spinning because it was reality. He forgot that it wasn't his totem, that it wasn't the original characteristic, that the totem wouldn't work. This is how he got trapped in the dream world.
If you killed him and he doesn't know he's dreaming, then he would end in a further dream, or even limbo. He must first know he's dreaming before you can wake him up by killing him.
No.
Everyone payed attention to the top at the end, but it was Mal's totem, not his. If you pay attention, Cobb's totem is his wedding ring. In his dreams he is wearing it, but in reality he isn't!
thats a really thin theory tbh. the whole totem is only mals and cant POSSIBLY be used by cobb is stupid. as soon as he wakes up he uses the top to see if its real or not. he doesnt NOT check to see if he has a wedding ring on.
Tom Hardy shows up, and Duaffy thinks she's finally found someone who's not in the Dark Knight trilogy. lol
To be fair we don't get the best look at him unmasked in that one.

@@DuaffyMS You're welcome. Note that you're also featured in the "Alien" compilation at ruclips.net/video/MY0lV7Qe9Ss/видео.html (we thought we posted notification comments to all the reactors that were sampled).
Ending wasn't dream....
Nolan Confirmed
Ariadne is lucky that when she sneaked into Cobbs dream that him and Mal weren't having a "wet" dream
Cobb's totem isn't the spinner, it likely is his wedding ring. In the real world, he doesn't wear it, since his wife is dead. He wears it in his dreams, however, since his wife is still alive in them.
The real point I think is that it doesn't matter to him in the end if this is a dream or not. He just wants peace of mind. He doesn't even check the totem. That tells me he wants to belive this is real no matter the consequences.
Your questions are actually very smart! I did not think that clearly after my first viewing, I was totally confused. And yes, a second viewing is a must.
You’re right he’s not from the dark knight, he’s bane!
Actually, it happens sometimes that I wake up around 30-60 minutes early before my alarm clock rings, go back to sleep and dream, then wake up feeling as if 2-3 hours have passed.
I'm sure someone will (or has already) blurt it out, but you are right that Cobb has a personal totem other than the spinning top that you can identify on screen that indicates his waking/dreaming state
Michael Caine (Alfred) said Christopher Nolan told him all the scenes he was in were real life. I think the movie wants you to make a choice, but Michael Caine is in the last scene, so it’s arguably real.
It’s a movie. That’s how it’s possible. No one ever asked how an elephant 🐘 can fly 🪰 using just its ears 👂! 🤣🤣🤣
Your observation about totems exceeded mine!! Mind blown again:(:(:(
Some say when the movie viewed on cinema you could hear the tottem falls in a moment after screen get dark and before credit , yet not sure if that is true. Both way it was a well written story.
21:50 "Another dream in a dream in a dream in a dream."
Yeah. This is a _weird_ movie. You go inside a simulation, and inside, there's another simulation you can go inside. And inside _that,_ there's _another_ simulation you can go inside. And inside _that..._
Of course, in a crunch, you can get mixed up about just how _deep_ you are.
Well you have Ras Al Ghul, Alfred, Talia, Robin, Scarecrow and BANE in this movie.
Scarecrow and also the fake Ra's Al Ghul
@@EricMcLovin13 yes, hence me editing my comment.
If you like DiCaprio so much, well I recommend you to watch Shutter Island from Martin Scorcese. Another excellent brain bugging movie.
Cobb’s Totem is not the same Totem as Mal’s. His Totem is not the Spinning Top. It is his Wedding Ring. He is no longer in the dream at the end.
What Hans Zimmer did in this movie is he really slowed down that French song you keep hearing and built his score on that. Genius if you think that "reality" sloes down in those dreams.
I like this movie more every time I see it. And I've seen it many times.
The spinning totem falls in the end, but when the screen is black and credits start. You just hear it.
I wonder how does Duaffy make a living??
This being a Nolan film plot choices can be connected to the real world. The wakeup song is one of Edith Piaf's most known ones (probably THE). Marion Cotillard played Piaf in La Vie en Rose, 3 years before inception.
7:33 I guess nobody cared who he was until he put on the mask xD
"I should be watching the movie, again."
That's awesome. :)
You get why this film was so popular, and did so well, and triggered so many discussions in so many cafes. :)
Zimmer actually has done concerts with the music from Inception.
You can watch them on RUclips.
And you don't know because the totem doesn't fall before the scene closes. So, you'll never know, is home, or isn't he.
The children should have been older.....
Cobb is still dreaming confirmed
Inception is also a masterpiece from the director Christopher Nolan, Outstanding movie!
I'm glad the ending freaked you out. Your three possibilities are all valid, as is the possibility it was all real, just as we witnessed it, and the totem was on the verge of falling.
Christopher Nolan cut away specifically to f**k with you, leaving it up to the audience to decide what they believe. :)
Cobb’s totem is his wedding ring. They made sure in the final scene we’d never see it. In all other scenes prior Cobb has it on in the dream world but not in reality
Video: he’s not from the Dark Knight (trilogy)
Everyone: umm...BANE!!!
He is from The Dark Knight 😂😂
he played the role of "Bane"
Mal's totem is the spinning top, it's not Cobbs. Cobbs totem is his wedding ring.
