The way you nailed that part about only being able to watch some movies properly for the first time is EXACTLY why we watch movies with reactors like you. It's the closest you'll ever get to that feeling again.
Exactly!
@@SisyphusOfSodom Exactly Exactly!!
@@timothyhedrick5295 Exactly Exactly Exactly!!!
@@TheMan21892 Exactly exactly exactly precisely... NO I did it wrong! 😖
Yes! Perfectly said. I remember watching this in theatres and it was so compelling. It's so much fun when you see someone else really enjoying it and being entertained.
I saw this in the theater and the ending made everyone audibly react. It was awesome.
😅
Didn't really bother me. What happened to his wife was sad, sure, but it was her choice. The Possibility of him being stuck in perma-loop was his choice. When that Credits came up, it was no longer my problem. 😅
Same; that ending was incredible. What a movie.
Same. I saw it IMAX (real 70mm film, 50-foot-tall screen IMAX) and when they showed Paris being folded over on itself I thought "This is how this movie is supposed to be seen." I knew that seeing it any other way was going to be a disappointment after that, and I was right. Still a favorite.
@@DavidMyrmidonwasn’t her choice Cobb literally did inception to her did u not watch the movie
@@EdwardgmeNoooo.. it was her choice to Participate with him in These "Deep Dives".

Mary, as far as what you said about the worst thing about movies this great is when they end you know you will never experience this the same way again. That's true, but we can get pretty close thanks to someone as genuine and likeable like you. Watching it again with you is magical, because it takes us back to feeling very close to that first time. So thank you for that
This is exactly why I watch reactors watching my favorite shows and movies because I get to re-live that first time experience again :)
So funny. This is what I just wrote above:
"It was also a brilliant reaction. The things you thought of along the way were quite impressive and often funny. To me this is the epitome of why I watch reaction videos -- it was just a fun time watching you go through this. Thanks Mary!
That part about the movie ending is one of them. Such a unique and refreshing perspective. She should have WAY MORE subs.
which reminds me, has she seen fight club?
The top was not his real totem. Remember it was his wife's totem. It was misdirection to better protect his real totem. His real totem was his wedding ring. When he was always wearing it in his dreams, but didn't have it on while awake. Spinning the top with his left hand let him look at his hand without drawing attention to it.
Yupp, soooo sneaky. But also, he never checked HIS totem, so still possible to be a dream. Though the main difference is that he sees the faces of his kids.
This movie is awesome
I used to believe his wedding ring was his totem, but there is a video that makes it pretty clear that it isn’t.
It basically goes like this. Your totem is what lets you know if you are awake or in a dream. Therefore the totem must be something from the real world. If he only has the ring on when he’s dreaming, then that means there is no ring when he is awake. So then there would be no totem in the real world.
@@FlickFreaks makes sense
@@FlickFreaks the ring very likely still exists even if he's not wearing it when not dreaming. "In my dreams we are still together" this lines up with the ring (and by extension, Mal) only showing up in dreams.
In any case, I think it was Michael Caine who said his character is real world only, and that his presence meant just that for the ending.
@@FlickFreaks well but the lack of the ring would be confirmation again, would it not?
If you truly want to see the best of Christopher Nolan's movies: Then you absolutely MUST see MEMENTO (2000)... Your mind will be trippin' on that one too!
Not the best of his movies, but still good.
I think this is the best movie reaction I've seen. I've actually got tears in my eyes from the ending. Seeing you be so happy at him getting to see his children again, but waiting for your reaction to the totem ending was so good.
Inceptiooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooon :D
I've been waiting so long to finally say that :')
My favorite Nolan movie is Memento, hope to see you react to it some day :)
It hasn't got a bucket.
So..minus 3 points. 😏
It's crazy to think that Saito spent 40-50 years (or however long) in the limbo world, when Cobb finally showed up and asked the very old Saito to take a leap of faith so that they could be young men together again.
That last moment of the top spinning at the end of the movie and how you reacted was awesome, great reaction!
Nolan's best IMO. A 9.5 out of 10. Though when I left the theater after my first time seeing it and sat in my car, I stayed sitting in that parking lot stupified for like 5-10 minutes and then yelled out loud "THAT WAS AN 11 OUT OF 10...HOLY FUCK!!!!!"
I showed this to a couple of old folks - they didn’t last 10 minutes and switched to another movie.
@@denniszenanywhere uh huh....why are you telling me this?
@@trav_9830 Because I had the same reaction as you and recommended it highly. They had the opposite response.
It's a 10 for me. Literally a perfect flick
Preach on. Preach. Heads up Mary. This movie has no flaws.
Nominated for 8 Oscars including Best Picture but won for:
Best Visual Effects
Best Sound Editing
Best Film Editing
Best Cinematography
the actor who plays Robert Fischer in this and Scarecrow in the dark knight trilogy is Cillian Murphy. He's by far my absolute favourite actor. He's one of Nolan's favourites as well, "Oppenheimer" (the next Nolan movie that comes out next year) will be the sixth time Cillian is in a Nolan movie. First time playing the main character though.
You should check out peaky blinders (my fav tv show) and the movie sunshine (one of my fav sci-fi movies) for more of his great acting. He's great in everything he's in though
Sunshine is a really weird movie but I personally loved it.
I'm so excited for Oppenheimer
Mary explaining how she feels after watching a great film is why I, and I'd think at least a few others love Reactors. You get to relive some of that feeling by watching someone else experience the film for the 1st time.
At 30:08 it's interesting that you think it too so much going inside to figure out what the last words of Fisher's father meant. But this moment was the actual Inception, this was planted by Cobb's team and was the wohle reason of the plot! Although I guess no one can say for sure if his father was really disappointed in him, this is now the reason Fisher decides to believe - to keep his father in a positive memory.
Yeah, the idea that his father loved him and wanted him to make something for himself was entirely fabricated by Cobb's team. There's absolutely no evidence one way or the other about whether it reflects reality, but there's really no reason it should. The whole point of the heist was to Incept the idea of breaking up his father's empire into Fischer's mind. Cobb chose to do it in a way that would also mend Fischer's relationship with his father, because that made the Inception more likely to succeed. In the end, Saito gets what he paid for, and Fischer will probably be a happier person despite breaking up his father's empire. Everybody comes out ahead.
@@kirathekillernote2173 I think Saito would recover. He may have spent decades in Limbo, but so did Cobb and Mal in the past, and after they returned to the real world Cobb still acted like his real age. In dreams, you can forget things like who you are, but then once you wake up you always remember again.
As for Fischer, he'd still be insanely rich even if he breaks up the empire. I'm sure he'd keep a part of it, or start up his own new company with the proceeds, or invest in some new venture. He'd go from being worth hundreds of billions to being worth a few billion, maybe. But instead of being weighed down with the impossible goal of proving himself to his dead father, he'd be working for his own fulfilment.
@@Kai-fb1ol yeah i think the danger is when you stay in your own fantasy/dreams. that is what limbo was suppose to symbolize. but since they decided to wake up from limbo at the end they decide to stay in reality. so all should be good.
23:18 That entire hallway spins 360 degrees. It was actually a pretty crazy setup. When the actors are flying around on the walls of the hallway, it's because the entire hallway itself is spinning. Their feet are always towards the ground from gravity with the camera in a fixed position.
The camera of course, rotates with the hallway!
Soooo excited for this. I adore this movie. Let’s goooooo!!!
That ending! I went to see this at the cinema 3 times and each time the audience let out an audible groan. Personally I love the ending.
Also one of my all time favourite soundtracks.
Great reaction.
I remember when we had finally convinced my dad to watch this movie, and as I figured, he was getting teary-eyed at the end...but the MOMENT you see his kids' faces for the first time, my dad bawled like I'd never seen before. Got a taste of that myself, it seems, from just this reaction video (I mean, this movie gets me emotional every time): the moment he sees their faces again, I involuntarily gasped and shed a couple.😢
35:45 - Everyone groaned, gasped, or said something unprintable.
Hey Mary, the thing about Nolan’s writing for “Inception”. -------- His ideas are technically intricate, yet the emotional depth is so compelling and soul-crushing. ------- I couldn’t wait to see your reaction.---------- Your emotional intelligence is the best I have ever seen. Next to Christopher Nolan’s of course.
I saw in theaters opening night or near, and on IMAX. My screening's theater patrons were a jolly bunch and kept laughing at everything, like whenever it cut back to the van still freefalling. At the ambiguous ending, our theater mostly went, "OHHH.. maaan..!" and rolled into a giant laugh that, of course Nolan would do that to us.
And, btw, Memento is absolutely fantastic.
I'm so glad you enjoyed this one so much! I think Inception is one of the most unique movies ever made, and it should be enjoyed to the fullest! Thanks for your reaction.
CinemaWins has an amazing theory about what the ending of this film means. It's possible that since the spinning top was Mal's totem and not Cobb's that it can't be trusted to expose reality. Some people think that Cobb's totem is his wedding ring (and they might well be right), but it's not critical either way. I cant remember the exact explanation, but CinemaWins theory is that this film is Cobb performing Inception on himself to convince himself that it's time to see his children again. It's a theory I really like.
Of course, it's also Nolan performing Inception on us, getting us to question what's real and what isn't.
My favourite film of all time, so glad that you loved it...and actually got a lot of it on your first watch.
I love that YOU loved this movie too. It was so brilliantly complex and challenging to wrap our brains around how everything worked. Thanks for hanging in until the end for that final scene. I loved seeing your reaction to it! Great job and thank you for sharing your reaction with us all.
You have to watch MEMENTO. Another Nolan classic!
This movie is as good the fifth time, as it was the first. It doesn't really matter that you can remember some parts, because it's so complex you can't remember it all.
10/10
Mary you mentioned how incredible Hans Zimmer's soundtrack for this movie was and I have to agree. I dont know if anyone has pointed it out yet, but the booming dramatic music is actually the wake-up song slowed down because of the time scale difference between dream levels.
Check out Sin City or Dark City for another unique experience.
This is one of the best film reactions I have ever seen... so glad I found your channel! Love this film & it was so nice watching it for the first time again! Keep up the amazing work!
Nolan likes to do as much as possible with practical effects. The spinning hallway scene would be the most famous practical effect out of this movie I would say. They actually built a spinning set. And in Tenet they actually crashed an airplane into a building.
That plane scene! Someone asked me if it was real and I said it's Nolan, of course it's real. Talk about having one chance to get it right.
LOL NAY at the very end lol great reaction🚂
You should watch Shutter Island
"In a dream, you can do anything."
Mary: "OMG, I could study for exams!"
Imagine the folding scene, sitting in the first row in the cinema. I do not need to imagine, it happened to me. Very impressive!.
I love the ambiguity of the ending.
Ah good old Inception , where everyone in the cinema and 90 percent of reaction vids scream "Fckkkk you NOOOOLAAANNN" in the last 15 secs
I love Mary’s reaction at the end. She became so frustrated she broke out of English and went native Dutch.
Mary, you nailed this movie quicker than anybody I've ever seen. Your predictions so early on the movie were so accurate it's crazy.
Dont cry because it ended, smile because it happened. :)
OMG. Your reaction to the end way so f’ing cool. ❤️❤️❤️❤️😊😊😊
I saw this film on a massive IMAX screen witha fantastic sound system, yet another great soundtrack by Hans Zimmer. At the end there was a collective groan and sounds of frustration from the audience. Talking about dreams the strangest one that I cam can remember was that I was asleep and got woken up, got ready and went to work - but something wasn't right I was still dreaming. Then the alarm went off and I woke up, got ready as before and went to the office, but then I realised that I was still in a dream. The alarm went off for a 3rd time and this time did actually wake up for real.
Frankly I did not rate this film that highly.
Interesting idea and wonderful visuals, but messy (over-complicated) story and unengaging characters.
For me, story and characters trump ideas and visuals.
RE: Similar films ... check out _The Thirteenth Floor_ from 1999! Its premise is like a combination of this film and _The Matrix._ (It also had the sheer, brutally bad luck to be released 3 weeks after _The Matrix_ premiered. It wasn't an action blockbuster, so it was overshadowed and mostly forgotten.)
Good luck finding a Nolan movie that is bad xD
I personally don't like Dunkirk and Tenet. But they are admired by many still.
But inception, interstellar and the dark knight trilogy are very much up there in the league of masterpieces imho.
Another brilliantly written "mindf**k" with DiCaprio is Shutter Island. It's amazing imho. The very sad scene ( to say without spoilers ) with DiCaprio in this is among the best acting of such scenes ever imho. I'll never forget it.
The Special Features of this video disc reveal that there are actual psychological cases that prove that dream-sharing is possible! But psychologists also admit that the same "brain wave functions" during conscious awareness are the same as those experienced during the "dream state!" Their conclusion discloses that our "conscious reality" may in fact be a SHARED DREAM!
This movie was so intelligent; when I first saw this in a theatre, the entire audience gave it a standing ovation.
The only way you can experience that gem "nearly" for the first time again is the way we watchers do it: watching a reactor enjoy the movie for the first time.
So what you have to do now is record a session with you watching ANOTHER reactor getting their first impressions of Inception. That would give you a second-layer nice experience and a third layer to us at the same time! Inception while watching Inception basically... 🤤💣💥
Except the ending isn't really open ended. It's very much concluded. It's just very sneaky and you have to read between the lines.
Subscribed! I remember Michael Caine saying Nolan told him his scenes were reality so the ending is real. :) I have the suitcase collector's edition of this that came with tons of great things but, the top totem was my favorite. I love this movie and your reaction. Thank you kindly!
If you think thats confusing, try Memento and Tenet - same director. Memento is mind boggling but you kind of think through the whole movie that maybe you can make sense of it, but Tenet - I gave up trying to follow it after about 15 minutes. Its kind of like watching Shakespeare - you have no idea what anyones talking about but you can kind of follow the story.
Tenet you can watch 100 times and still have the same reaction - cos you still have no idea whats going on.
TIME is the best soundtrack of all time from Hans Zimmer!!!
I think the whole movie is a deception, and here's why: convincing Fischer to give up his father's empire wasn't the real mission, it was convincing Cobb to let go of his wife's memory. It's why Cobb had to go one level deeper to convince Saito to "come home" even though everyone was convinced Saito was dead, it's why Ariadne took so quickly and easily to manipulating the dream world, and it's why Cobb didn't wait for the top to stop spinning, the Inception had been achieved, he no longer needed to wait for the spinning to stop because he now accepted that he was home free.
The turning hallway is the single most mind-blowing action sequence I have ever seen because it is practical. That is why I love Christopher Nolan. Thanks for sharing your reaction.
"This is an experience I can never get back the same way!" And that's why we watch you react! To feel through you reactors what we once felt on our first viewing. Thanks Mary.
And this is why I hate people telling poilers like it's nothing. Many people work hard on movies and TV shows for years and then everybody has just one single chance to watch it for the first time. I hate when trailers give away anything and I hate people telling spoilers. It's an experience taken from you before you get the chance to have it.
Had that the first time with 6th Sense. Though there it really way my own fault because I peeked into the special features before I watched the movie. Learned my lesson that day. At least the director himself spoiled the movie for me. That's something, right? :P
Ariadne acts somewhat intrusive, but she's hardly to blame.
The first time she shared the dreamscape with another person, she got banished out with a very real and painful feeling of a abdominal stab. If that team is going to wander around in the dreamscape SHE designed then it's imperative precautions that she needs to know if there's a twisted, warped guilt hounding them.
We need that rush hour 2 and 3 reaction my friend
You should watch Memento and The Usual Suspects. They are similar in that you wish you could watch it again as if it was the first time. Fyi, Memento is another film by Nolan that got him noticed and famous.
This movie was heavily influenced by an anime movie called Paprika (which was based on a novel with the same name). Both are excellent in their own right :)
Super reaction Mary, I’m glad you finally saw Inception. I loved when you said you didn’t want the movie to end. Exactly the way I felt too. As a child, I experienced multi-level dreams, trapped within dreams, and later, lucid dreams. Inception brought all that back as I remembered just how detailed and complex the dreams can be. I couldn’t believe it when the movie introduced Totems, because I had, in fact, developed such tests to help me determine whether I was dreaming or not, and whether I had to wake up again through another level of dreaming. Though Inception is highly dramatized, dreams within dreams are quite real in my experience.
If this movie blew your mind, I recommend Nolan's newest movie Tenet. In my opinion, it's a bit convoluted and not as good as Inception but it is definitely one hell of a mindfuck lol.
The ending is a happy one. The spinning top is not his totem, the wedding ring is. So if he isn't wearing it it's real. But the movie has tricked us so many times that you think the end is a trick too, but it's not. That's how I see it. No one can tell me otherwise. Loved your reaction.
A perfect movie. It's actually A LOT more deep than the surface level story you take away upon first viewing. Did into some of the theories, mainly that Cobb is the true inception subject of the while movie.
Blows your mind
"Can you like study for your exams in your dream?"
Finally someone is asking the actually important questions
The way you describe being able to watch a movie once is exactly why I watch your channel! It's why its so much fun/so wonderful to be able to watch a reactor like you to go through that experience for the first time as well :D

U know that feeling u had at the end, about never feeling that way again - experiencing it fresh and new - that’s the reason we watch YOU, m’dear. We get to experience our favorite movies fresh & new again. It’s awesome. U should watch another reactor watch Inception now. Join the club😉
The inception intro you did was awesome and hilarious 👏👏👏
"He's here! It's a good movie!" Tell that to Jaws: The Revenge 😏😁
I adore by your laugh 😊 and think it would be awesome if God would have the same as watching at us😄
Michael Caine stated that every scene he's in, is reality. So, I guess that settles the ambiguous ending.
Pretty much every main character are played by Nolan's batman cast except Leonardo and Elliot (formerly Ellen)
Memento is one of Nolan's first and one of his most mind-blowing. Put that at the top of your Nolan list!
The point of the the final shot cutting before the top falls is not "is it real or not?" The top is clearly about to fall, but Nolan's point was that Cobb stopped obsessing over what is real and what is not, and made a commitment to his children his top value. He walked away from the top without waiting for it to fall, and the movie did too.
I doubt Fischer's father actually would have said "I was disappointed that you tried" irl. It was on the deepest level of his subconcious cause that's his deepest wish, everything he ever wanted, his father's love and respect. Also, keep in mind it's all just to get him to split up the empire of his father and the reason it's something wholesome is, as they said, that something positive as motivation works way better than something negative.
This is a very good video on Fischer's journey/experience in this movie: ruclips.net/video/7bcW1nRa9YE/видео.html
You must watch Momento. I think it is Nolan's best movie!
I hope u watch shutter island thank u for your review.
I loved your reaction and comments. Watch: DUNKIRK also by Nolan, it's in 3 timelines - says it from the beginning. It's a more "realistic" movie. VERY GOOD of course.
You should watch Star Trek series. Many of these creative sci-fi ideas were taken from it. Concepts of "shared dreams", "lucid dreams" and "dream inside a dream" of this movie was based on Star Trek Voyager serie, "Waking Moments" chapter. I recommend to you to take a look at that sci-fi universe.
The "creeper" who played Scarecrow is Cillian Murphy! Gotta check out 28 Days Later. Arguably his best role
It's not important whether the top at the end will keep spinning or not. Cobb has accepted this as the reality, whether it is or not, and he is happy with his children. nothing else matters.
Most people (including me) are quite sure it's real though. Cobb is always wearing his wedding ring in the dream scenes and he is never wearing it in the scenes that take place in reality. in the last scene he isn't wearing it. I personally don't think that is a coincidence.
But his kids are wearing the same clothes and look the same size as they do in the dream world 😕
You're one of the few that understood the ending. In the opening scene Cobb spins his totem with a gun in his hand ready to blow his brains out. He is obsessed with knowing if he is dreaming. At the end he spins the totem and walks away, he doesn't care anymore. He wants to feel happy and see his kids.
@@paulcurran4786 In an interview with Michael Kane he mentioned being told all of his scenes were in the real world.
@@paulcurran4786 except they are not wearing the same clothes, just very similar ones. And crucially the children in the final scene are older than those in his dreams. Edit: check the end credits; there are two sets of actors mentioned playing James and Phillipa at different ages.
Also, neither the audience nor Cobb see their faces until that final scene, because he's unable to picture them in his dreams.
Indeed. There are no coincidences in a Christopher Nolan movie.
The spinning top was Mal's token, Cobb's was his wedding ring, he only has it in dreams. He is not wearing it in the final scene so it is real! HAPPY ENDING!!!!!
I saw this movie 3 times in the cinema. And every time, without fail, people would "what?!" and then "aww!!" at the ending.
I am so glad you finally watched this movie and enjoyed it!
Cobb made it home to his kids. Doesn't matter what the totem does.
Was hoping you would get to this one. I knew your mind would love it =)
Still my favorite movie of all time, the scene that sealed it was the scene where Cobb explains how he used inception on his wife, the fact they lived in a dream for 50 years. They lived an entire life down there, long enough to forget they were even dreaming.
I absolutely loved this movie and saw it for the first time in theatres. I wasn't even aware of how long it was; I was enthralled. I remember remarking over and over that I hadn't been that entertained by a movie in a very long time. I'm so glad you watch it, my daughter and I enjoyed your reaction at the end!
I love this movie! It's SO interesting, so unique.
All of the characters, the actors; EAMES!!!
And the costumes are incredible! 'oh everyone is wearing suits', but they are all different, and say so much in such a subtle way.
I love this film. What I love most about Christopher Nolan is that he's not afraid to try something different. He's not the only director like that, but Dir. Nolan and others like him are a rare breed in today's Hollywood.
This is one of my absolute favourites! The ending is frustrating, but the key is that Cob doesn't wait to see if it stops spinning. He doesn't care whether it is real or a dream - he cares about seeing the faces of his children again.
“ Try to dream a little bigger, darling.”
Great reaction, this film changed how I think about thought and dreams
Glad you finally did this one. It will always be an amazing film.
I'm proud to share Christopher Nolan's last name. Hehe
It was also a brilliant reaction. The things you thought of along the way were quite impressive and often funny. To me this is the epitome of why I watch reaction videos -- it was just a fun time watching you go through this. Thanks Mary!
The spinning top was Mal’s totem, not Cobb’s. He did that to throw people off to not look for his totem. His totem was his wedding ring. You’ll notice that he is wearing a wedding ring any time he is dreaming and in the real world he doesn’t have it.
(Also as a complete cheat: IMDb lists different actors playing the kids at the end than the rest of the movie, specifically the kids are several years older at the end compared to the kids throughout the movie).
Saito was older in the dream... Older children don't confirm anything. It could still be a dream in the end.
NEVER EVER WATCH TENET!
One word: TENET
He's dreaming. You might ask, "how do you know?" Easy. His kids are in the same pose as when he lost them. And they haven't aged any.
Even if they would age - its the same as Saito being older... It could still be a dream.
I saw this film in theatres and that first watch with a large crowd was such a great experience. There was a collective gasp right after we see the top falter but was cut with the black out and credits. Immediately people were murmuring how great they thought the film was and were conflicted with the end. Glass half empty/full people were conflicted but over all loved the film as the credits ran. Movies like this are rare but are fantastic to experience with others. You have a great channel and I enjoyed your reaction.
South Park "insheeption" 😂🤣😅😉👍👍
Christopher Nolan INSOMNIA 👍👍
If you were thinking fury road because of
Tom Hardy, he was also in Batman as Bane. Nolan likes to cast the same actors he likes working with.
