    In a previous iteration, she had told him "Peyton" was her middle name to get him to piss off or shut him up, because she was probably aware - on each iteration - that it would be better for him not to get attached to her the way she did Hendricks. She told him the truth after she realized he already was. Emily Blunt really does a fantastic job of playing this relationship, this 'take it on faith' quasi-romance, in which she only ever knows him for a day but she understands how he feels about her because she's been in his shoes. That payoff line, that she wishes she could have gotten to know him better, is about as far as you can believably take a "love story" in this circumstance, and she nails it without sounding like she's feeling something that doesn't make sense for her character.

    • @TalkingHands308
      @TalkingHands308 2 года назад +5

      Actually I'm pretty sure that was just him guessing middle names every time he repeats another iteration with her hoping to at one point say the correct middle name. That's why he didn't flinch when she said that it wasn't her middle name because he's used to being wrong already.

      Really? I honestly thought it meant that in the near future the US had separated. So interesting you function that way now.... Although you're really the weirdest country, so patriotic and nationalistic and yet more like the European Union, a bunch of different nations that barely share laws and have no federal ministry of education, or health, or anything that makes the different states citizens equal in Rights. So technically a country, that uses the name of the continent it is located in, made of different Nations. Such an oddity.

    • @itt23r
      @itt23r 2 года назад +9

      @@carlalussini Well speaking as an American, to be clear our loyalty is primarily to the country, not the state, even those who are fiercely loyal to their state and may say jokingly that they are a Texan or a Kentuckian (as in this case) rather than an American, they don't really mean it. It was meant as a joke. When push comes to shove, in our hearts we are Americans.
      As to our laws and given that many regions of the US have a very different view on what is moral, we have a constitution that allows the states some freedom in passing laws that differ from the laws in other states. And it also mandates some laws that all states have to abide to. And that system has worked quite well. it allows sometimes for up to 50 different ways to address difficult or controversial issues. With the most successful generally becoming the blueprint for the other 49 states to follow.

    • @ryanjohnson8131
      @ryanjohnson8131 2 года назад +8

      @@itt23r The constitution doesn't "allow" states some freedom. It created a new governmental body with certain powers. The countries of America created the federal government, not the other way around.
      There's a reason each individual nation in the US has an executive with a president (called a governor for historical reasons), legislature, and judiciary. Each state is a country, much like the European Union. The difference is that some states left at one point, and they were conquered and forced back into the union where as the EU has an explicit exit mechanism.

Its never fully stated but if you understand the idea of the movie you can fill in the blanks. Same with events througout the day, the fight where the 2 squad members jump Cage, we never see the 1st one where they prob beat him up, we seen the 50th+ when he knows what going to happen, it puts the events of the day together in such a smart way.

It's loses nothing on re-watching, which must've been a huge labor on the editing floor to add just enough detail without slowing the movies pace. A perfect example was when Cage said Rita "Don't shoot him again" when they went to see General Brigham, perfect writing & editing. Love this movie!

    This movie had a issue of sticking with a name for trying to marketing the film. The original name (same name base on the light novel as well) was called "ALL YOU NEED IS KILL". It seems likely that what made this movie not really do well at the box office is the title. It's not that the title would be a bad title for the movie; it's that the title sounds like the title of a daytime serial (or perhaps a spoof of one). There was a daytime serial titled _The Edge of Night_ and there was another one titled _Search for Tomorrow._ Even though this title fits the movie better than the daytime serial titles fit their respective shows, it makes people think of them. That's why when it was first released on video, they used the title _Live Die Repeat._

    Mary! When you mentioned Tom Cruise learning to hold his breath, that was actually something he did for Mission Impossible Rogue Nation.
    I just recently discovered your channel and have been binging your movie reactions, and based on how much you’ve enjoyed Tom Cruise movies, you absolutely HAVE to watch the Mission Impossible series! You really seem to enjoy movies with twists and turns, movies that keep you guessing, and Mission Impossible is full of that! Plus, Tom does all of his own stunts, there’s some really cool spy tech throughout the series, and I think you’d really love the characters in the later movies especially! It’s a series that actually gets better with each movie (the 2nd movie is the only exception, it’s not a bad movie but it’s the worst of the series).
    I think you’d enjoy these other Tom Cruise movies:
    Jack Reacher: this movie is a who-dun-it with a dark and mysterious tone. Tom does his own stunts, and there’s some really great and inventive fight scenes. He also does his own stunt driving! This also applies to the Mission Impossible movies. In the Mission movies there are lots of incredible car/motorcycle chases, and he does it all. He’s a professional driver, literally he raced cars for Paul Newman! Anyway his car chase in this movie is great, and the movies throws some twists your way and the narrative is told really well.
    Vanilla Sky: this one is kind of unique. It’s a romance, but also sci-fi, and has some CRAZY twists in it that would blow your mind and have you rewatching just to figure out what really happened! It’s a melancholy movie with deep themes and interesting concepts, and watching it is a very unique experience.
    Oblivion: this is a fantastic movie. M83 is a great band and they did the entire soundtrack, and it’s magnificent! It’s directed by Joe Kazanski who also directed Top Gun Maverick. The style of the movie is superb, and you’d LOVE watching the behind the scenes. So much of the movie is real and not special effects, it’s incredible. It’s got a wonderful story with awesome story twists and one of my favorite endings ever! It’s a story about mankind beating technology, and I think you’d really appreciate that.
    The Firm: this movie has an old-school feel to it that is really cool. The soundtrack is jazz music and it’s so unique but also really works well! It’s a really creepy story and keeps you guessing. And Tom Cruise runs a lot haha!
    Honestly, you should just watch his entire filmography. Even in Rock of Ages, which isn’t a great movie as a whole, Tom Cruise is AMAZING. He plays an aging rock star, and he trained for months to learn how to do his own singing and dancing. It’s not a great movie but his scenes are worth watching and you’re mind would be blown! So many of his movies are just fantastic and you should definitely keep reacting to them :)
    I am loving all of your videos, thanks for being so entertaining and creating great content! :)
    Edit: just got to the very end of the video, and you already discovered that holding his breath was for Mission Impossible. Hope that means you’ll be watching them!

    The “I’m from Kentucky” reference is a phrase that some Americans say to differentiate or separate themselves from the larger United States, usually to make some sort of general or political point. ie: “I don’t have to do what others do because I’m from…..”. The history comes from various States threatening to succeed from the rest of the US due to that States disagreement with some sort of decisions that was made by the Federal government. Texas is usually associated with threatening secession often but not sure if they deserve that reputation. Many States have threatened to succeed and 11 have actually done it at some point in US history.

We are not our rage, not our petty grievances, not our outrage, not our egos, not our ignorance, not 99% of what our lives show us we are. Movies like this insist that we are something more that only comes to the surface when we are pushed to the very limits of our existence and pops the bubble we live in. Allowing us to exist as a true human being, without limits, acting with love and compassion, sacrificing without reservation, capable of real "humanity". 12:00 You're right, most actors in the main cast aren't "allowed" to do dangerous stunts because firstly, the insurance is really costly, and secondly, yes, if he or she gets injured, it can seriously delay the production. But Tom Cruise will either be a producer on the movie so he can make the decision himself to do his stunts (like in the MI movies), and/or he'll use his stature to convince the production company to risk paying that costly insurance (like with this movie, where he wasn't a producer). Or in the case of one of the MI movies, he fired the insurance company when they refused to let him do a dangerous stunt, and basically insured himself, lol.

In other words, Danny Trejo just trying to make it seem like him not wanting to do his own stunts is somehow selfless but it's really because he's scared to or doesn't have the ability to...

    • @trequor
      @trequor Год назад

      @@TalkingHands308 The Crow is an anomaly to be sure. The way it is shot was heavily impacted by that choice and it wouldn't work for 99% of films. Also it's easy enough to shoot around a blackeye or a cut that heals within a few days (at least enough to be covered by makeup). It's quite something else for an action hero to break their leg for 90 days. That's the entire shooting schedule on most movies.
      Not to mention that these days big budget movies have multiple shooting units working simultaneously. Most of the stuff that doesn't use the main actor(s) are done by B and C units. This makes the schedule a lot tighter.

    • @TalkingHands308

      @@trequor You mean like when Tom Cruise broke his ankle and kept filming, or when Kurt Russel sprained his ankle during Soldier and kept shooting, or when Jackie Chan broke his ankle and kept shooting, or when Harrison Ford was injured on set of Indiana Jones and they still finished the film? I mean, I could go on... Stunts are hazardous, but precautions are definitely put into place to make sure that nobody is hurt on them, stunt double or not. In the past when the main actor was injured, they either shot scenes out of order where the injury wouldn't affect the performance or they shot scenes that didn't involve the main actor first and then finished the scenes afterwards. There are definitely things that can be done. Not saying Danny Trejo shouldn't make the choices that he makes, more power to him. That's why stunt double exists afterall. But he really should try to twist it to seem like he's purely being selfless in his decision and make it seem like other actors who do choose to do their own stunts are somehow being inconsiderate or doing other people injustice. Remember that Tom Cruise started his own production company and pretty much every movie that he does he also serves as a producer so he is also personally responsible for the production of the film. A lot of the responsibility lies on his shoulders. I just hate when people try to make themselves sound so selfless and high and mighty. Danny Trejo doesn't want to do his own stunts because he doesn't want to get injured, period. None of this nonsense about how much he cares about the production schedule or people's jobs. The production company is there to plan for all of those things, he don't have to worry about that...

    "Scary how like if you think you're not gonna die how dangerous you suddenly become." Mary there was a guy that led police on a wild chase after robbing a few stores and driving wild all over the place. Police said what was strange is he was fearless. When they talked to the people that lived around him they found out he came to believe in reincarnation. He had told his neighbor that life was like a video game, when we die we are sent back again. If you research September 11th reincarnated kids you will see there are some kids that know their previous lives down to their first, last names, and professions. If you found this interesting you should consider watching 12 Monkeys. I believe it deals with this subject in a more academic level by bring things like the Casandra complex into it. In life there have been people that have been exposed to strange events that they later found out could only have taken place if they "traveled" in time. I say "traveled" because some believe time is an illusion and time may really be layered like an onion than a straight line with events along the way. If in fact, it is like an onion then sometimes time may "leak" from one layer to the next revealing themselves for that brief moment to random people. The problem is the Casandra complex. If you saw events no one would believe you anyway. You trying to warn people would fall on deaf ears. Changing the future to avoid events would be futile. This is one of my favorite subject in movies. Groundhog Day started it all. 12 Monkeys, Before I Fall, Edge of Tomorrow, The Map of Tiny Perfect Things, Happy Death Day, Source Code, The Time Traveler's Wife, (must see) and Looper all are about time and how humans deal with it. Its fascinating and really the only way to experience time in this way. By the way, this is the fourth time you've read this comment about these movies. Best wishes.

    When Rita killed a blue mimic at Verdun, she started resetting the day and kept dying... she tried to locate and kill the Omega without success w/ the help of Dr. Carter. The last time she reset the day, she beat the mimic army at Verdun, but her injury and subsequent blood transfusion kept time carrying out out of the loop she was in... Without the power to reset the day, she knew that the next battle would be her last as the counter attack was likely to fail w/ the Omega anticipating the future using its time-looping power.
    When Cage killed the blue mimic and got the same power that Rita had at Verdun, he experienced the same frustration - could not locate and terminate the Omega. After Rita, the Omega was prepared to find any human who managed to 'steal' its power of time-looping the day... That was how Cage found out that his visions were a trap (like it had been for Rita).
    In the end, Cage lost the power after his blood transfusion, but managed to find the Omega's true location using Dr. Carter's device... When Cage destroyed the Omega in the end, he absorbed it's blood and reset the day... Much like he took the power after killing the blue mimic and reset the day every time he died (which was the function of blue mimics) but retained the memories, this time Cage took the Omega's power after killing it.
    As a result, when he reset the day a final time, he claimed the Omega's power, which resulted in the Omega dying (which was the power surge detected as a result of Cage's reset)... Without a live Omega, the remaining mimics crashed because Cage does not have the Omega's connection to the mimic army.
    When Cage had the blue mimic's power, he was not connected to the Omega or the mimic army, which is why only he could remember after each death & reset... The Omega could not retain Cage's memories, but could only sense that a non-mimic had access to its time-looping power, and set measures to lure the time-looping human out, so that it could reclaim its power and carry on, like it did w/ Rita.

      They wrote her like a (certain archetype of) soldier, because that's what she is. Her gender isn't really all that relevant to her character, personality, or role. Which is one way to do what you're talking about but isn't the easiest thing to do in practice without swaying too far to the other side of that equation.

      You're arguing that body dip yoga thing was necessary sexualization?

      @@mobiusflammel9372 that's the point. This side of equation is grossly ignored in the mainstream movies. Just look at Wonder woman's depiction - even though it's on the better side of the lot, her costume is a bit ridiculous for a fighter superheroin.
      One way I often this about is this: there are plenty of movies where the lead is male but his role isn't gender-specific. We can easily swap out with a female lead. The reverse is not true. We lack female representation in gender-agnostic roles.

    22:55 "Wait, he can make it out without her, but not with her?"
    Well, like you said: Rita is limited. For her, every retry is a new experience.
    Whereas Cage has done this thousands of times.

    This was such a cool movie. Great concept. Like Groundhog Day but with guns and blood.

    In English you can both "hold your breath" or "hold in your breath." Typically you use the second one as a directive, but they are interchangeable.
