apocalypto rlly!?! that's so cool man i haven't rlly seen anyone reacting to it. It's a great movie!
Well get ready cause holy shit. 😂 let’s just hope RUclips let’s me post it up
Watch someone play Prey on the hardest difficulty without them dying once. 😁
That’s insane lmfaoooo
You should definitely watch district 9. It's an interesting take on aliens on earth.
This movie shocked me. Looked like a generic action movie, turned out to be an exciting action thriller full of well executed surprises
Yeah it blew me away haha was so entertained
@@JamesVSCinema Also it had the right balance of action, humour, caracter development, sci-fi ideas - rare to find all these so well-blend together!
I wonder why the director is not a big name yet!
Very true! Check out Dredd 3D for the same experience
Doug Liman is kind of hit-or-miss for me, but when he hits, he hits. The Bourne Identity and Swingers are two of the greatest movies of all time.
McLovin, superbad name, excellent
What I love about this movie is the length; not a second of it is wasted. Nothing needed to be added and nothing needed to be taken out.
Yup each moment was interesting!
Exactely: totally balanced!
@@jimmyj1969 As all things should be.
@@Raivo_K I understood that reference.
@@Raivo_K 10/10 for that reference
Best thing about that movie, when you like tom cruise, you see a well made action thriller, when you hate tom cruise, you see him die over and over again.
Lmfaoooo wow 😭
Hahahaa savaged how cruel :'D
I'm half and half on that.
The latter reason is why I watched this one.
@fnj006 or tall people who don't get gorgeous ladies like Tom does. 😀
Edge of Tomorrow is criminally underrated. You should check out the Japanese light novel it's based on: All You Need Is Kill.
how is it underrated? it got a 90% from both critics and viewers. I swear people just say that a film is "underrated" for no reason these days lol
the manga author had the idea from playing video games and realized he got better after every death ...
@@JoshuaDay0550 It has a high rating now, but it took a long while to reach this point. It flopped in the North American box office (it had to compete with The Fault In Our Stars, Maleficent, and X:Men: Days of Future Past), and was only saved by overseas audiences and word of mouth. A lot of articles discussing the best sci-fi movies of the last two decades don't even mention it.
This is one of the few cases where imo the movie is better than the source material.
Tom cruise apparently only refers to this film as All You Need is Kill.
Literally how every single dark souls play through goes. This movie is so great, one of the best roles cruise has done, it’s cool seeing him as the underdog and slowly getting better.
Oh my god you’re right hahaha
Oh my god you're so right, this "is the dark souls of temporal sci-fi high budget action action movies"! :D
Yep. It didn't occur to me when I first watched it, but this whole movie is basically one ginormous Dark Souls playthrough, only without the option to put down the controller or hit pause. I don't think it sank in just how horrifyingly soul-crushing that would be until you no longer had the option to quit.
@@halhala2 imagine doing blight town over and over again with no options of going back until you win that sounds like true pain
I remember going to watch this with really low expectations...came out of the cinema and it was my favourite movie of the year !
Love when films do that haha!!
@@JamesVSCinema please read the Manga ! You’ll love it.
Tom Cruise has a reputation of being as practical as possible so all those suits were really worn by the actors and all those jumps and action sequences were shot using wiring and crash pads. Cause that's just how Tom rolls. And if you're up for another mind-boggler of a Tom Cruise sci-fi, I highly recommend "Oblivion."
This movie is Probably one of the better science fiction movies in recent memory. That and “MINORITY REPORT.”
Honestly I still have to watch Minority Report *facepalms*
And Upgrade.
@@JamesVSCinema It's a great crime action drama
Have you seen Cloud Atlas Jason?
uhm, arrival, blade runner 2049, anyone? don't even get me started on the expanse..... there's quite a bit of great modern scifi out there.. it's not all prometheus and alien crapenant 😜
District 9 is another underrated sci-fi, would be cool to see you react
Not sure I'd call it underrated
Such a good movie. One of those movies you watch and just don't forget about
I actually think it’s overrated. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good, but it was praised so highly when it came out that it couldn’t possibly live up to the hype.
Damn right!
Yeah I wouldn't really call it underrated lol I love the movie but it's not underrated. Sharlto Copley was amazing in it. He was in another awesome and actually underrated movie 'Hardcore Henry'
Some fun details from the novel for those curious (spoilers):
The mimics aren't actually the aliens, the aliens are on a mothership stationed a safe distance away from the Earth; the mimics are a biological weapon deployed by the aliens. They landed in the ocean and incorporated the DNA of ocean life, hence why they're called "mimics." In the novel they move in swarms, are amphibious, and look more like a combo of fish, starfish, and anemone. They terraform through their basic biological processes, converting and excreting what they breath, drink, and eat into the elements the aliens need to live, making the environment toxic to humans.
In the novel, Rita uses a giant axe that is laser cut from the wing of a decommissioned airplane by her unit's engineer. In the movie she uses a sword made from a helicopter blade. In both cases, she opts for a melee weapon because she won't need to worry about running out of ammo.
The novel is set in Japan and the main character is a fresh recruit named Keiji. The way the time travel works is a bit different, with the different types of mimics having a slightly different purpose. In the novel this creates a scenario where the only way to break the time loop is for Keiji to kill Rita, leading to her forcing him into a climactic one-on-one fight to the death. Afterwards Keiji becomes the new hero of the human resistance, receiving the nickname Killer Cage from the Americans that Rita served with.
This movie is maaaad underrated, and such a nice change from Tom Cruise's more standard action roles, where he starts as a bit of a coward and has to build himself up overtime, as opposed to starting as an immediate badass (with maybe the exception of The Last Samurai). Dope reaction and review man!!
True about The Last Samurai, although he did start off as at least a badass shot. The beginning he showed off crazy good aim while being hammered drunk.
I don't think underrated is the right word, the move generally has great reviews and most of the people who watched even at the time of release really liked it. It underperformed in the US mostly because of terrible marketing and the studio had no idea how to advertise it, it was only saved by international box office. But still the people who saw it actually enjoyed it.
An underrated movie is more like when the people who saw it at the time were mixed about it or didn't fully understand it and gave it worse rating than it deserves, but later on when some time passes they realize it wasn't actually as bad no matter if it was a box office flop or succes. Great example for underrated movie for it's time is Fight Club. A lot of people who saw it when it came out didn't like it and got a lot of negative press even from "professional" critics. It became a cult classic much later on when people did realize it was very underrated. But that wasn't the case with Edge of Tomorrow, the movie wasn't polarizing when it came out and it was received generally very well by a lot of people who did see it, it just had horrible marketing and most people didn't bother because they thought it'll be just generic bang bang Tom Cruise movie.
Btw it may seem like a rant or argue, but that's not what I'm trying to do. Just saying there is a difference between underrated and underperformed and I see a lot the word "underrated" thrown around where it's not always the case.
Edge Of Tomorrow is actually based on a manga called “All You Need Is Kill”.
It's originally a novel. Manga came later, timed with the movie. There's a comic too.
I wish they would have kept that name, it's so unique and cool.
@@MrJustaguy74 "All You Need is Kill" is the most ridiculously edgy and over-the-top title ever. I don't know if I prefer that or the more generic title we got here.
@@SuzakuX The manga wasn't timed with the movie, it began serialization on 2004 while the movie came out on 2014.
@@MrJustaguy74 The movie change a major plot point from an original novel though. And that plot is an entire reason why the the tile is called "All You Need Is Kill". So They can't really kept it.
Tom Cruise's sense of humor is severely underrated
He's a good comedic actor. People don't always give him credit for his overall acting because he mostly does thinned plot action films. But he's a really talented actor. I first realized this when I saw Interview with the Vampire.
It's my favorite part of this movie 😅
I watched this movie for the first time on cable based solely on the description "a soldier lives the day he was killed over and over again." No mention of the cast or anything, Needless to say the movie blew me away, one of my all time favorites.
Emily Blunt is amazing in this movie! Super cool, super badass
If movies like these have taught me anything, it's that even if you had 1000 lives you still wouldn't get it right. So don't worry if you don't get it right in your one life. Failure is just a part of the game.
I think he used more than 1000 :)
I love the stories they told during interviews!the mech suits were so heavy they couldnt stand up after x amount of time with it on!so Emily would give Tom a gentle push and he couldnt hold his balance and slowly fall over!
I love Tom's character arc, his character growth is awesome. He goes from a manipulative little chicken sh*t to a confident-leading, total combat bada$$!
Kinda like how Bill Murray became a confident pianist in "Groundhog Day" or Dr. Strange became a bad ass sorcerer after being trapped in a time loop with Dormammu.
@@johnlloyddy7016 well yeah he became a pianist but he also became a better person, less ego-driven and more emphatic
Bill Paxton. Seeing him makes me sad. Loved him in so many films. Tombstone is a must-see.
Two of my absolute favorites. Bill Paxton and Tombstone.
I love the fact he is basically playing his version of Gunnery Sergeant Apone
James low-key guessed this whole movie and where it was going LOL
Rest In Peace, Bill Paxton. Great film. A comic-book movie with out a comic-book. Loved it!
RIP Bill Paxton ... It is actually based on a manga titled "All You Need is Kill"
@@johnberg9497 oh snap. you are correct. The manga!
@@jmleon6313 it's all good. no worries. you should check it out if you can find it. :)
Valkyrie is another criminally underrated Tom Cruise film
Banger of a film
Agreed!!
Part 2 is coming. R.I.P. Bill Paxton The man of many faces.
source? I haven't heard anything about a part 2
Simon (True Lies) was crazy. Love him. 🤣
@@Bogglemanifyhe’s left paramount and signed with fox. They want a sequel
My favorite movie that year. Love him or hate him Tom Cruise always puts everything into his performance and I think he was perfect as Cage in this. Also RIP Bill Paxton.
Hey James, I love how you point out how "Edge" shows and doesn't tell the audience the story. It is also well crafted, specifically the dialogue. It drops little clues along the way. Sgt. Farrell literally tells you what's about to happen to Cage in his "Fiery Crucible" speech:
"Battle is the great redeemer. It is the fiery crucible in which great heroes are forged. The one place where all men truly share the same rank, regardless of what kind of parasitic scum they were going in."
And he was an "officer" when the movie starts, behaves like a parasitic scum, gets stripped of his rank and gets "baptized" in battle by the Alpha.
He's busted down to private and shares his rank with J Squad. With each reset, he is forged, by combat, into a hero. After watching "Edge" a second time (and many more times after that) I got it. Farrell was "telling" us, but we did not know it at the time. Brilliant screenwriting!
"Where are you going private? You're about to miss your moment."
Underrated movie, I’m still waiting on the sequel!!!
It had a perfect ending in my opinion. It was a war you can never win, because the enemy controls the time. Maybe a prequel will be awesome!
@@videosicantfind2411 yup or that, I just want to see blunt and cruise together again
Love the «twist» that Tom Cruises character is a wimp at first
I put this movie on for some action and cool 'splosions. I was then very happily surprised by how good the story and characters were. I especially like how taking his power away was what spurred him on to go the extra mile and break the stalemate he was stuck in.
I remember randomly putting this on and I was blown away on how much I loved it. Came out of nowhere for me.
lets goooooo, one of my lowkey favorite movies of the decade. Came out of nowhere and surpassed every expectation I had for it. So glad you got to it. Praying we get a sequel soooooo badly.
Hahaha ayyyyy yeah this was a dope ass watch!
I watched a screenrant or watchmojo today listing movies getting sequels and apparently it is happening!
I'd say "Starship Troopers walked so this movie could run," but it's more like "Starship Troopers ran so this movie could sprint."
Tom Cruise sprint.
Oh hell Yes!
This is one of my favorite Sci Fi Movies to come out in years, it's intense, fun, hilarious and emotional when it needs to be.
Such a great damn film right here.
RIP Bill Paxton..
Palm Springs is another loop kinda thing its amazing i think youll love it
One of my favorite "smart" action movies. Everything about it is so well executed. But the writing/directing/editing really standout because they never lose the audience: just enough repetition, just enough exposition - all mixed in with some great action, and some great Bill Paxton levity. great performances by Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, and Paxton.
LOVE this movie. Insanely enough, when it came out it didn't do that well. The consensus was that because the film's kind of subtitle/slogan was "LIVE. DIE. REPEAT.' - - which was also on the poster, confused people. There seemed to be some audiences who thought it was actually called "LIVE. DIE. REPEAT", and they were having trouble finding it. So it under-performed due to the confusion. Which is tragic, because it's amazing. But it's garnered some good cult status in recent years..... One of Cruise's best for sure.
So glad I saw this in the theatre, didn't see any trailers, just rocked up and the poster looked interesting. I couldn't shut up about it and how good it was for days, but still couldn't convince people to go see it, same with Alita
Love this movie, went into it blind in the theaters and was surprised at how much I loved it! Always recommend it to people as I feel like it’s really underrated and not many people have seen it.
Happy I was able to get around to it!!
James, I was going to get back to working on my feature script, but you had to go an post your video on one of my favorite movies ever. Your timing is impeccable.
Lmfaoooo I apologize in advance 😭
The true comic book ending brought tears to my eyes. There is no brain... the person becomes an antennae for the mimics. That being said, the Angel of Verdunn fights Tim Cruises character for the power. Helicopter blade vs helicopter blade sword... clanging and sending sparks with every strike.
Well not for the power per say. You can’t break the loop until you destroy all the antennae and then kill the alpha. So Rita was fighting Keiji in order to figure out who was the better warrior, who had better chances to end this war. Cause Keiji didn’t want to lose Rita
@@danzansandeev6033 yesssss!!! i need to re-read the book. But i still wish they kept the original ending.
@@THEvagabond29 same here mate. What I love bout Japanese media is that happy end is pretty rare. Cause life isn’t fair. And when there is happy ending you know it’s earned
I did not expect this movie to be as amazing as it is. I can't even count how many times I've seen it.
The book is really good too. “All you need is kill”.
I was actually looking for a comment that mentioned the book. Glad I found one.
This and The Martian were two of my favorite movies from the past few years. Was probably a long time ago but feels recent.
Quick shoutout to you James for making my weeks just a little better. You’re great
Maaaaaan shoutout to you brother!
This movie was one of my favorites at the time, I had read the manga it was based on and it was fun looking at the differences between them
Great for rewatching actually
I love how you came to this cold, makes the viewing so much more interesting not knowing the full premise!
16:55 the moment we almost all know. The moment that changes everything and that can become absolutely significant.
There is always time for this moment, even or especially in war.
Not even lying when I first saw it in theaters, I went the very next day to watch it again
I love the alien design in this movie. Especially how they move. You should check out the extras about how they designed them. It's really cool.
This movie went so under the radar when it came out. I only watched it for the first time about a year ago. I think people might have got the impression that it was just another run-of-the-mill alien action movie but it wasn't.
I'm not a Sci-Fi guy; just not normally my thing. But this flick was special. Something about it kept me engaged the whole time. Underrated, in my view. Nice job.
This movie is criminally underrated.
16:36 that’s what’s wild. When you think of all the time skips, and how they will make his progression seem mostly seamless, until he lets on to Rita that’s he intimately familiar both with her, and the process of getting to each point.
It’s wild because it could have taken thousands of attempts to get as far as he does… so it makes sense why he would be in love with her. But it’s also a trip from her perspective because everytime he does some crazy badass shit, it’s the first time she’s seeing it. Plus he’s a complete stranger who has spent more time with her and probably knows her better than anyone, if it’s been thousands of attempts… many of which seem to last an entire day.
I love the way in this movie how the scenes at night are actually dark and hard to see in. One of the many details about this film that I think is great.
This film didn't get ANYWHERE near enough credit when it came up, but is now one of my favorite action films.
I've been waiting for this one. Edge of Tomorrow is so underrated man. btw i would love to see your reaction to The Pianist (2002) since you have already reacted to some ww2 and historical movies
12:20
Bruh that is the first time ive seen a youtuber acknowledge Preys existence. I love that game. It was totally slept on. Underrated.
Sold as a summer action movie. Is actually a very smart, highly entertaining sci-fi adventure with some damn clever writing.
The suits are practical, Emily blunt cry because they were to heavy and she had to wear it for hours
Damn she cried??
@@JamesVSCinema Luckily, she's one of those rare ladies who still look beautiful when they're crying!
@@rayhutchinson640 “oh no, that lady over there is crying!”
“Well thank god she still looks beautiful”
Why the fuck is that your first reaction?
@@JamesVSCinema in interviews she said she cried on Tom Cruise's shoulder after the first day of wearing it, but didn't cry again for the rest of the shoot. The suit weighted around 80-120 pounds so it was hefty. Had to interject and clarify, because the tone of the other commenters in this thread talking about her irked me.
@@rayhutchinson640 what in the hell is this comment?! What point are you trying to make, man? It seems creepy as hell!

I never clicked so fast! What an underrated gem of a movie
One of my favourite Sc-Fi movies! It hurts my soul how underrated this movie is!
i *_LOVE_* this movie. saw it in theater. had no idea what i was going into. such a complicated and smart action movie. the intelligence and logic made the emotions even that much more powerful. one of a kind, maybe even a masterpiece.
It’s easily in my top 5 for this century so far. I never get tired of seeing this movie.

Emily Blunt Was Pregnant While Filming
Tom Cruise Did His Own Stunts (nothing new)
Brad Pitt Was Considered For Cruise's Role
An Alternate Ending Was Filmed Where The Humans Lose...
I didn’t know that alternate ending but I knew that they were gonna go with something closer to the original with how they both die in the end

This was one of those movies I got hooked on and watched over and over again for awhile. Such an entertaining film.
YUSS! I was so completely surprised when I saw this in theaters. I didn't expect to laugh as much as I did lol
I thoroughly enjoy this movie. I've watched it multiple times and it's still fun. What annoys me is that I always want to dislike Tom Cruise movies (because I kinda dislike him as a person), but somehow I always end up having a good time. Damn you, Cruise! **shakes fist at sky** 😂😂
One of a handful of films I'll watch every time it happens to come on. Awesome reaction man 👌
Loved this movie. Saw it in the cinema while being awake for a couple of days. Thought I was gonna fall asleep, but nope :D

Groundhog day meets Starship Troopers
I greatly enjoy your thoughtful reactions. I am glad to witness your introduction to such a good work.
I love edge of tomorrow, I was not expecting it to be soo good when I first saw it, it made me a fan of Tom Cruise. It is one of the films I enjoy watching everytime I see it. It feels like the perfect film, some of the storytelling is subtle and implied which is unique and allows for the film to focus on the action.
I remember watching it in cinemas when it was first released, went into it not expecting much and was pleasantly surprised and I’m glad I got to experience this masterpiece in the full cinematic experience
This is one of the most underrated films. Great reaction...as always
One of my favourite all time movies lowkey. funny, baddass, compelling, tragic, cool, great effects and writing
lol love how you end each video with the palm of your hand going in toward that camera.
Great reaction to a amazingly rewatchable film! I was pleasantly surprised by this film. The story was novel and complex yet easy to follow. Again, great reaction!
It' so lovely to witness someone watching Edge for the first time. It is such a great movie. The suits were indeed real and very heavy.
I also love how Doug Liman always gets some funny TC out there as well. One of the best things about "American Made", too.
One of my favorite movies of the past 10 to 20 years. I rewatched it numerous times and I usually really don't like the groundhog theme.
Starship Troopers meets Groundhog Day. Haha I do love this movie though man. It's equal parts action packed and hilarious.
I remember when I finally saw this being completely floored. Also Emily Blunt is the peak of female sex appeal in it.
My favorite part is " MAGOT, MAGOT, MAGOT!!!" LOL!
It adds to the tediousness of the start as to where he is at peace... before death obviously..
Wish I'd seen this one in theaters! I missed it when it came out, but was shocked by how great it was when I finally saw it. It ranks up there with some of my fav sci-fi movies now. Just awesome action, great sci-fi, fun comedy moments too -- and the film is beautifully shot to boot, and the aliens and concept design in general was super cool. Loved your reaction!
I'm so glad you reacted to this movie, I think it's really underrated and I hear basically no one talk about it. I loved it though, thought the concept was amazing and the cast was fantastic at portraying a surreal phenomenon.
Always happy to see people discover this great movie that completely went under the radar when released.
Not sure if anyone has said but one of the squad he teams up with said in the interview that Cruise is all about morale when working so everyday they'd have a race to see who can get into their mech suit the quickest! So much fun
I enjoyed this movie MUCH more than I expected. its a fav of mine now.
such an underrated movie yo. loved to view it with you from this perspective, his sedation was definitely a great example stakes raising moment and as you said, so many moments of showing, not telling
So glad I saw this in theater. My friend and I were basically the only people in the theater and we were blown away.
"talk about an annoying way to progress" right when the ad starts
Man I’ll say it again...”OBLIVION” with Tom cruise. Underrated masterpiece !
One of my favorite action films in the last decade. Just so smart, fun, emotional and the pacing is just SO good. Those repeats could have gotten old real quick but it keeps throwing different things at you that keep you so invested and entertained. And I love the ending. I always viewed it as the Omega would almost like anchor itself in time, so that it could reset to certain points and try again from that point when a mimic died so they could try again. So its last anchor/save was pre-battle when he was in the helicopter. So when the Omega died time reversed back to that anchor point and it died sort of where it last "saved". Which is why he woke up there instead of at the army base.
Groundhog day meets sci-fi. Brilliance
One of my biggest, favorite movies!❤️❤️❤️. I think I was able to watch it with my family in cinemas, it was my birthday at the same time too🤣❤️❤️❤️. Thank you for giving us a nice movie review of this. ❤️❤️❤️
