Movado is like the Mercedes Benz of watches. They are slightly overpriced and depreciate significantly but have such a timeless design that they fit any occasion. For instance, a Benz C300 is a "cheap" Benz and a lot of consumer brands are actually more expensive, but to the average person it's still a major flex, based on the namesake.

You made some valid observations in your review, but as a matter of personal taste and preference, I do like the simplicity and elegance of Movado watches. I own a few, and find them to be reliable and durable in their day to day function. The only concern that I have with them is that for the prices paid, the plated finishes tend to scratch a little too easily. As a result, I have to exercise extra care while wearing them. Nonetheless, Movado is still a highly recognizable brand. My Movado watches continue to draw more attention and compliments than the other reputable brands that I own.

Its very interesting that the reviews by "Watch Reviewers" trash Movado Watches.. Yet the comment sections will be filled with Movado OWNERS who've owned them for years and LOVE them.
I think it comes down to Movado realizing that Swiss Mechanical Movements, while elegant and great technology for their time, cannot compare to the modern Swiss Quartz Movements (i.e. 22 jewel - 84.C5.1897.0 Chronograph) that have VASTLY Superior Accuracy. This is NOT an opinion, it is science... Swiss Quartz Movements have greater accuracy than ANY Mechanical Movements.

Wow. What a silly set of comments. First of all, if you like the look of a Movado, you get a Movado. It's pure aesthetics. My friend always says his Movado gets far more compliments than his Rolex that cost 20 times more. The Movado design is what you're getting. It's well made and tells time. Need an investment? Buy some Tesla stock. As for the umbrella brand nonsense, a TON of premium brands have been picked up by larger companies. Who cares? Not much out there looks as good as the Movado, IMHO. There are a ton of pricier watches (by far) that have virtually no character at all. That's not the case for the Movado.

@@AvgJoeWatchReviews Who said anything about impressing anyone? I live in a multimillion dollar LA pool house, so I doubt anyone cares much about my watch. All I said is that the Movado gets more compliments vs. a far more expensive Rolex. As nice as the Rolex is, it doesn't stand out as uniquely stylish. Some people prefer that, which is fine. If I'm heading off to a Hollywood meeting, the Movado is a nicer dress watch than quite a few pricier options. I can't be worried over "investments" in watches. I spoke ONLY about aesthetics and pointed out that the Movado (and old Museum Classic) drew more compliments than a far more expensive luxury watch. You sound all wrapped up in costs. The comments about who owns which company couldn't be more shallow and uniformed. So long as the quality associated with heritage is observed, nothing else matters. Disney bought Pixar. Fiat bought Ferrari for a while. If I wanted to "flex", which is a teenager's term, I'd do a better job. Movado has a business model. They sell a distinctive design for a relatively low price. Good points. My issue isn’t the gizmos and bling, it’s the value you get for a quartz movement and lack of complications. You’re paying for their marketing and getting a watch that’ll depreciate as much as an Invicta (percentage wise). I would only buy a Movado used if I were to recommend it to someone who is set on buying one. You can get a used one in great shape for 100-150 all day. Another thoughtful and informative video from Avg. Joe. my assessment is that fashion brands rely on perceived value boosting based on psychological influencing rather than fact and reason. The products of at least one such brand have been shown to be composed of low quality parts assembled in the cheapest of conditions absent of quality control. For those concerned about the well-being of the people who make the products we buy, the term cheapest of conditions also means low pay and poor working conditions.

A lot of great points here. I do think the price is an issue, but I guess not enough of an issue for them to bring their prices down haha, as they undoubtedly sell a healthy amount of pieces. I think fashion brands are valuable to the watch community in the same way smart watches are valuable. Regardless of what people think of MVMT, their MASSIVE marketing arm has gotten quite a few people (some that I know personally) into the watch game. They definitely aren't for me, but if they get someone to dip their toes into the watch market and begin appreciating watches as a whole, I look at that as a net positive. They have branched out over the years with infinite variations on that theme, and even tried going back to their pre-museum dial, with vintage styled models. sports models dive models, etc. They tried automatics, but sales weren't too good. They did make some nice autos, but a bit too expensive. I think that period, 2005 to 2015 was their best for product. But it seems their niche is upscale quartz fashion watches sold primarily in chain dept. and jewelry stores. The quality is excellent compared to most quartz fashion watches. However, the Bold line is lower quality, and are priced high for what they are. They are really all about sophisticated modern style, and want you to buy a new one every few years. They have great brand recognition and sell a ton and the profit margins are high. I don't think their customers want to go back to having to wind and set watches, and pay more for the privilege.
I think they'll always have a market, but their model is starting to show signs of trouble. As far as prices go, of course they are vastly inflated... expect to pay about half or less online. I had to laugh at that "perfect for weddings or funerals" line! It's definitely a suit or tux watch in a dress-down world. The overly formal style looks very 1980's New York chic. Designed for people that only wear black, and at odds with today's casual laid back west coast styles. Less people are buying in malls, which is their primary channel. And the iWatch makes it look even more ancient.

Dan Finch really appreciate your insight! I think brands that have huge marketing budgets put themselves out of range with some of their competitors who don’t advertise as heavily. That’s why this brand is so overpriced imo. They’re overmarketed. Tissot produces a quality Swiss automatic for under 500.00. No reason why a Movado Swiss quartz should be almost double that. I enjoyed your feedback thoroughly and hope you watch more and comment more because I learned a few things here. Thanks again and welcome aboard!

@@AvgJoeWatchReviews I thought they where a little better of a quality then they are.I just took that they're overpriced and they're really not really built that well.I also at one time thought Gucci watches where quality to till I seen a few videos of people explaining that they're really not that great for the price they charge.

I received a Movado Red Label automatic museum watch with a lizard strap as a gift from work back in the early 2000s when I was in my early 20s. I wore it for a bit, then took a break from it, now its back in the rotation with my other "daily" watches, I like it now because I feel like I'm the only one wearing it when I'm out. I also received a Raymond Weil Tango swiss quartz that is part of my "daily" watch collection (I received as a gift) as well. I like it for work and business trips, it looks nice and it doesn't stick out so much, pretty much a grab and go watch when I'm in a rush - I like that I don't have to adjust the time on it . Good review on the Movado though, it isn't for everyone.

Appreciate the feedback and support. I’ve always wondered about Raymond Weil and why no one talks about them. I may do a video on them. Thanks for watching!

I bought one for $900 for my wife that looks beautiful with some little diamonds. But she didn’t care about the movement or technology. Just the looks, but it looks fantastic on her wrist

Movado watches are horrible your paying 600+ to get a Walmart watch when you can buy an orient or sieko that have pretty good automatic movements for the price and they’re elegant and good to wear down and up i’ll rather buy a vincero watch rather than movado I am being serious

Do people really waste hundreds on Movado watches? If you buy it just because you like the aesthetic, then buy a Citizen eco drive. You get a similar look, and same high quality for like half the price.

@@AvgJoeWatchReviews Yea I walked into a mall one day and saw a Movado Sapphire for $1,995. I pulled out my phone in the store, looked it up on Ebay, and saw it selling second hand for $500. Holly crap what a HUGE depreciation.

I think that’s the problem, resellers and oh this is an investment. Nope its a watch to be enjoyed, if you wanna invest, there’s always the stock market. I do however do agree about pricing.

Hey David! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I’m not an advocate of buying watches as an investment because as you said, there’s the stock market for that. More likely than not, unless you’re buying a Rolex, AP, Vacheron or any other watch the Avg. Joe cannot afford, your watch will depreciate as soon as you take it home just like an automobile. Thanks for watching.
