Apparently the armor of the Elite squids is ablative/sacrificial, so it'll take the hit from stuff like AT turrets and recoiles ONCE and break off, leaving the Elites with very little health, but still alive It doesn't look like the helmet is the same though, so hitting the head hard enough can just kill them
So I did this once on an eradicate mission and we almost lost because not a single bot made it to the ground so the kill count wasn’t high enough. We had to stop with the team reload to give them a chance to come down and get killed. God tier for bots.
This. I started with recoiless then gravitated to commando for a free backpack slot, now I use railgun and jetpack. Using railgun aiming and tips thing would be cool.
I found that the recoilless chunks the impalers health just enough for a grenade to finish it off. Usually i run incendiary grenades so it goes like this: throw grenade and immediatly follow up with the recoilless. if it´s still somehow not dead afterwards, the fire tends to finish it off. Considering that impalers are the less frequently appearing unit among the bugs (compared to other of their units that is) it´s a reasonable amount of effort.
Would totally love to see the MG strategem talked about I feel like after people unlock newer gear, it gets forgotten, but from my experience it is great against all factions
The machine gun is one of the best support weapons against bugs specifically. It's got medium pen so it beats the Stalwart, and it's ammo economy and handling is better than the HMG. It staggers stalkers and hunters so as long as someone else takes the big lads the HMG will keep the chaff clear.
fun little thing about the Impaler, if you actually hit the very yellow spot on its head, it will actually die in one shot from the RR, the Quasar and EATs, going any lower and yer actually missing the "head" entirely!
The Recoilless Rifle is a one shot to the factory strider’s belly. It’s a little hard to hit without getting close, but blowing up the turret on top makes it easier. As for bugs, most of my other kit is for crowd control. I only bring out the recoilless for chargers, bile titans and impalers. Having a gatling sentry cover you makes plenty of space to reload
For bots, occasionally it can deflect off some very bad angle if the hit angle is too narrow. I had it deflect off the shoulder of a Hulk or a fabricator handful of times, but it's after hundreds of hours against bots. All tanks have extra health at the front, but their turrets are always a one-shot. Factory Strider has an exclusive one-shot location at the red glowing eye, but it had to be extremely accurate. Otherwise, hitting any part of the head except the armor drops it in 2 shots. For Impaler, the spot to one shot is literally the tiny orange part right below the regular dark-colored area on the forehead. It's kinda narrow. Against Harvester though, it's kinda easy to hit the non-lethal destructible parts on it, which are the top antenna and bottom antenna. Otherwise it works.
Can you cover the EAT-17? I usually bring recoilless rifle and EATs, and only use recoilless against the tanks and dropships. That way I can tank out gunships and hulks with the EATs.
RR is awesome for bugs and bots. Use Orbital Airburst, Mg turret, and Cluster Bomb to give yourself reload space vs bugs. Use Machine Gun vs Illuminate, kills literally everything.
I got the reload speed ship upgrade, and the refill all ammo on my supply drops ship upgrade, and have learned how to do the crouch reload cancel on the recoilless rife. The update to the recoiless rifle due to the enemy armor and anti-tank patches have made it one of my favorites for difficulty 6+. The only time I use anything else is autocannon on bile spitter constellation mission seeds and machinegun against squids (right now illuminates don't have much beyond their dropships that need the recoiless rifle. I am looking forward to their heavier units showing up in the future).
Finally. Freedom is served. Also you can dive or press your crouch button and it will reload cancel. Now if you stand up when your guy puts the shell in the launcher you don’t have to close the hatch.
To note, though a bit annoying to always have to do, reload cancelling once you can get it down, saves maybe about a second off the reload. It also comes in two stages meaning that against bugs for example, it'll be a bit easier to reload (one part is taking out the rocket, the other inserting). RR my beloved.

The recoilless has one advantage on every other anti tank weapon and that's response time. If something needs to die NOW, you'll be happy you have the recoilless. The EAT has 3 seconds of deploy time and the quasar takes like 10 seconds to charge, meanwhile the Commando's travel time makes it slower than you'd expect. I would like to know why the Recoilless does less damage to overseers than the W.A.S.P. though. That's just weird.
Maybe the attack angle and blast of the projectile hit the head a lot leading to a shit ton of damage across the body? I’m not to sure about how blast damage would do the damage. But then why not the recoilless, indeed a strange question
I prefer the Recoiless Rifle over the EAT-17 precisely because I can use the circles in the reticle to aim. Longest shot I've landed was 400m against a building-sized target. And when I'm pinging an enemy heavy, sometimes I just want to know how far they are so I know how to take care of them 😉
No word about active reloading? If you stop and immediately restart the reload on the RR at certain timings you can get it ready to fire faster. Hit crouch and reload when you pull out the spent shell. Afterwards, cancel the animation again when you insert the new one, when the UI says the gun is loaded. You’ll be able to shoot another rocket more than a second sooner. This isn’t the only gun you can do this with, either! The WASP launcher has a weird example of this where you can’t active reload two loads in a row.
When I play bots I bring this. My primary is the eruptor. The senator is my secondary. Sometimes I bring the mortar sentry. Than a 500 kg. Stun grenades. Then maybe a nice eagle. Now with this load out. I play back alittle. Which some people don’t grasp. I’ll drop the drop ships. I’ll do damage from distance. So no I’m not running in all crazy. I pick things off from distance.
I recommend bringing machine gun sentry combo with RR so you got something cover you (or kill you) when you reload, your team mate are not going to cover you they will be too busy running away from what ever or just on the other side of map
My loadout is RR 3 turret (gatling, autocannon, rocket) When these 3 turret is out Most of the living creatures including all Helldivers will just disappear
You should try out the StA-X3 W.A.S.P. It was one shooting the Overseer's last I tried it. Don't hype up Artillery mode tho, it really is not worth it.

@@AlinaColler That doesn't make sense. The dropships spawn in with the troops on them, so when it crashes all the troops count as kills.
The first circle on the reticle is about 150-200m, the bottom of the reticle is about 450m
The RR can one shot factory striders to the eye, making it even better on the bot front.!
The railgun would be a nice tutorial... I can see a lot of newer players avoiding it because it seems complex.
