    A new ultra compact model from Nitecore, this time the company started this project on Kickstarter. It's an unusually flat body, but with dual two stage switches for ease of use, also an OLED display gives detailed information on power level and run time, as well as charging.
    The body is made from stainless steel with a special Titanium PVD coating, which gives a grippy finishing (matte effect). The design looks well suited for a slim pocket carry, but also takes up little space in a backpack of bag.
    I take an in depth look at the Nitecore EDC27, and give you some of my thoughts on this model.

    As a TUP owner I love the display and the unique designs that aren't just tubes, Nitecore and others are putting out. However I just can't see myself putting more money into enclosed battery designs. Some of my tube lights with removable batteries will probably outlive me. Additionally, in my opinion, Fenix's threaded and double o-ring usb-c cover design is a game changer, that I hope to see other companies copy or somehow improve. Great review btw. Keep it up.

      Interesting, what is the Fenix double O ring cover on? Which models from Fenix.
      I like Fenix, though their holsters can be a bit weedy on some products. I have a feeling Nitecore will do more variations of this, perhaps different sizes. It does seem to be quite popular

    Great informative video. This EDC27 is definitely moving towards the form factor of the Tip SE. The T4K was always hindered by it's very "blocky" form factor that would disqualify it from most EDC users rotation system. One thing Nitecore got right with the T-Series was offering the user a light with a beam pattern that is functional and widening it's application for daily use and not spearing towards the all too typical tac light beam pattern with it's very obvious hotspot. I own the Tip SE and it's the light I use more than any of my other lights. The EDC27 is definitely taking the the T series concept and attempting of making it more powerful and increasing capacity without making it cumbersome like the T4K and TUP.

    • @MrBazReviews
      @MrBazReviews  Год назад +2

      I agree whilst the TUP/T4K were interesting models, there were not really suited to a pocket carry (OK for jacket carry), and really too big for keyring/chain use for many people. This new form factor is much better suited for EDC I think. Perhaps we will see more models based in similar designs.
      Battery capacity is also decent, quite a bit up from the T4K/TUP. I think the beam is fine, fairly floody but not too spread out, you still have a decent range with it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this

  • @besthifisystem6511
    @besthifisystem6511 Год назад +13

    Nice review as always! I think this design is interesting and yes you are right, this is the new model to give a solution to the "200-4000 lumen" gap on the T4K. However, Nitecore should create a new battery solution/pack that would be removable in the future-something like on their headlight models. You know, that flat battery.

    • @MrBazReviews
      @MrBazReviews  Год назад +6

      Being able to get to the battery would be useful, seems a trend though to go with built in batteries. I was never a fan of that. Phones are a classic example, very easy to have replaceable batteries. I think we know why they do it!

    Its now 9 months after your excellent review. I have wanted a flashlight in this form factor for a while. I had held off on this EDC27 in hopes that Olight would develop the Arkfeld into a white light only dual LED flashlight. That has not happened, the newest model the Arkfeld Pro still has a green laser and a UV light, and only one white light LED. I have the Arkfeld Pro and although a very nice quality light it has features I don't need and falls short in total lumen output. Plus I think the EDC27 with provide a better beam pattern for my use out doors. So after re-watching your review I have decided to purchase the EDC27. As always I appreciate your most excellent reviews.

    • @MrBazReviews
      @MrBazReviews  6 месяцев назад

      There is to me nothing wrong with the beam on this, it certainly has enough power and I like the overall concept. Nothing is perfect and it might work better for some then others, perhaps Nitecore will do more of these over time (different sizes), though there are drawbacks (built in battery etc).
      The shape does work very well for a pocket or slipping it on a backpack belt, you do need to use the lock-out in my experience.

    If they only put a red light on this !
    It would be perfect, just why.
    Will it stop me from purchasing it ? No, because I love the form factor.
    I’ve been buying Nitecore lights since the beginning, and I still own every one of them. I’ve never had a single issue with their lights, the early batteries I had issues with, but they are holding up great the last few years.
    My favorite light that everyone hated is the
    Concept 1, I own 4 of these and use them multiple times a day.
    One in my bedroom,
    One in my living room,
    One in my bathroom,
    One in my go bag, with several other models, spare batteries, chargers, 2 headlamps, and 2 Nitecore NB10000 power banks. (Holding up great, 100s of cycles.)
    The last few years I picked up some Olights to see what the hype was about, the larger lights are just overpriced garbage, but I do have to say I really like the imini and i3e as 5th pocket lights, I removed the rings and threaded tiny paracord though the eyelets creating foot long tethers attached to belt loops.

      Concept 1 was an interesting design, I didn't mind the site switch, but it would have been so much better with a lock on it (ie mechanical lock). I know you can twist it to cut the power. I think people had issues with the Concept 1 going into Turbo for a pocket carry and it was pretty powerful. I always liked the body design myself and shape - I think they could have done more with it, and the UI wasn't to everyone's taste. I was not shocked it got a mixed reception
      This however does hit the mark much closer than most. I'm not sure that there is enough space for a red LED without enlarging the body or head. So far I like it but need to play around with it longer term. You do need to lock it out though no question about that

    The drawback they need to address to this and their EDC33 are the non removable batteries, both lights are almost perfect minus the battery being a fixed one. It's a huge problem since batteries degrade overtime.

    • @MrBazReviews
      @MrBazReviews  3 месяца назад

      Yes this is a problem for me, the newer EDC range has built in cells EDC33 and EDC35 are two newer ones. I didn't get sent review samples, wasn't asked (no idea on that why). Frankly I am against built in batteries on these products, even this one is an issue too. Reason is they have high power output and the cells take a big hit on drain/wear. I know people who hit turbo a lot, who wear out cells in 6-12 months, and by that I mean substantially reduced run times, or it won't even hit Turbo eventually.
      I'm doing less reviews on these items mostly because I'm just far less interested in the way the industry is going with this built in battery nonsense. It's not in the interests of buyers, as they have disposable products, more e-waste, and I just wouldn't buy a torch where you can't change the battery. It's not a problem on the tiny keyring ones, I get that. But I have no idea why anyone would buy a larger torch with a limited lifespan, with a built in battery. We also have Olight's proprietary cell nonsense too, I completely lost interest in that company and their products. Almost all their models use custom cells. Incredibly annoying

    @FirearmNoob Год назад +4

    Nitecore missed the mark with this light imo. They wanted to make an edc light but put tactical features on it. It's too long and while 3000 lumens is impressive, you will not use it in an edc light other than to show off to your friends how bright your light is while draining the battery 15 seconds at a time. Another missed mark is the 6500k temp. A warmer or neutral tint or even better a high cri is much better served for an edc light. What I would change to make this a perfect edc light:

    Imo make this 1-2" shorter, get rid of the 3k mode and replace it with 1000-1500 turbo with a longer run time (2-5 min before step down) and reduce the 1k to 500-750 lumens (with no step down). This way you have nice evenly spaced out output for different "edc" tasks (15/65/200/750/1500). Change emitter color temp to a warm or at least neutral tint. Keep the quick access to turbo and strobe and these changes would make this the absolute perfect edc light in this form factor. I could easily see this as Nitecore's #1 selling flashlight.

    • @MrBazReviews
      @MrBazReviews  Год назад +1

      Down to preference, I prefer warmer tints but many makers ignore them. The side is more EDC than I thought because it is slim, guess everyone has their own idea of what EDC means
