The new EDC25 from Nitecore is the latest model to feature upgraded NiteLab LEDs, this gives a longer range v the EDC27 and improved efficiency at some power levels. Nitecore also changed the switches, added a proximity sensor, and the body is now made from Aero grade Aluminium. It has a 4 level battery/output LED scale instead of the EDC27's OLED display.
Is the EDC25 an upgrade to the EDC27? In most ways it is, but I also look at it in more detail, discuss some of the good and weaker points, and I've included some beamshots outside, to help you decide if this model is suitable for your needs.

Just got the edc25 and it is absolutely amazing imo.
Overall I like it, more so than the EDC27, switches are way better.

Same Mr B yes I would take this one over the other, don't have these flat styles wonder if I'd like it?
People seem to like them I have a JETBeam one coming in too, perhaps flat shape less bulky
As I stated with the EDC27, this is a form factor perfect for the plain-clothes police or security officer of just the tactically -prepared citizen. We're living in a golden era of flashlights. Do you think accidental activations (like those with the EDC27) are a thing of the past?
The switches are much better on this, more resistance. I've not accidentally activated it so far, unless something pokes into the switches I'd say the lockout most times won't be needed (ie belt wear etc). The EDC27 has to be put in lockout, constantly coming on.

I have the EDC27 and this seems like a downgrade in many ways. However it does seem to have better runtimes. Did you find the buttons much better than the EDC27?
The only real downgrade is lack of OLED, but I don't find it to be a major issue it's nice but the LEDs will do. The finishing stainless steel power coating feels different to this, EDC25 is thicker material more dense, though stainless steel is strong. Switches feel very different, much more pressure needed to activate. If you have the 27 and are happy with it, probably no need for this. But I would likely take this over the 27 if I were buying new myself now (it's also a bit cheaper)
