  • Recently, the official minecraft server list released. There was quite a lot of drama as many of the servers on the list were pay-to-win, so we got in contact with the websites creators and had a lengthy 2 hour conversation...

    I'd love to see Mojang and ultimately Gamersafer make a more firm definition for P2W. Right now its waaaay too vague. We as a community have a pretty firm definition (That is nothing that gives you a firm advantage on official server leaderboards like baltop and istop which a lot of player competition is held over) and I'd love to see them adopt something along the lines of that.

    • @JakeLaMtn
      @JakeLaMtn 6 месяцев назад +7

      I feel like that definition is too narrow, personally. For example, I don't think you should be able to buy weapons and tools on a leaderboardless survival world, as competition is inherent in a finite (though large) world with limited resources. But that definition allows it. I guess you would consider that to be semi-P2W, but I don't think it's acceptable, especially when (as discussed in the video) coupled with loot box type gambling mechanics.
      I doubt Mojang will ever be that strict with P2W, but I can dream.

    I would also like to point out that if you are active within certain server's communities, its possible to pay for an unban by contacting server staff and buying certain items off the store as a way to "pay" for your unban without actually buying an unban. Some other servers have a workaround that offers a free way to get unbanned but you can buy coins to then buy an unban, like on minecadia.

    According to the video here is how any player can get any server removed from the list.
    1.Find a server where the players are able to place blocks and not reset at the end of the game/match (so stuff like survival/skyblock/creative etc)
    2. Do something that could break the guidelines, examples being shown at 10:20
    3. Report the server to be removed from the list for breaking guidelines
    (This is why there is that warning on games that online multiplayer gameplay is not rated...)

      I doubt mojang will communicate with server owners before deleting the server. Also there is a lot of space in a minecraft world, meaning a mod/admin would have to find the build to destroy it, meaning they would have to find a way to detect when a player is building at all minimally or if they build specific thing.

    It would be cool if the official Minecraft Server List had a sort of age requirement for certain servers. That way, you don't have to force EVERY server to be kid friendly, so that servers with profanity and such don't have to be forcibly shut down. After all, Minecraft is about doing whatever you want, so if you want to play a server with swearing, you should be allowed to, provided you're old enough.

  • @Lancerious
    @Lancerious 6 месяцев назад +76

    FINALLY someone on YT whom I watch calls out those horrible Minecraft server voting sites. I remember back when I would play multiplayer all the time and was constantly looking for servers with parkour and/or skywars, and the VAST majority of servers I joined didn't have what I was after. I long since abandoned those sites as I rarely play multiplayer Minecraft these days, but I never forgot how misleading they could be.
    Speaking of Manacube though, I remember voting for Manacube a lot back when I played on it regularly. I didn't even do it for the server lol, I just did it for the voting crate keys I got as a reward. The server is definitely very pay-to-win, what with higher ranks giving you HUGE advantages over lower ranks, not to mention non-ranked players. Kinda regret spending money on it when I was younger and thought ranks/cosmetics were the coolest things ever.
    It's honestly really nice to see Mojang/Microsoft creating their own server list through a company partnership. Assuming the access to entry is low and simple, so many underrated servers can have an opportunity to grow. Hopefully it goes smoothly, if it does I can see this being a major win for Mojang/Microsoft.
    Amazing vid too even though I'm not finished yet lol. I really like seeing your style of content, it's super unique and really sets you apart! Super late congrats on 600K, can see you reaching 1 mil within a year!

    I've been enjoying your server for a bit, MisterEpic. I love Civ Factions despite the low player count, it's pretty great. However, there is an issue I'd like to discuss in particular, that being limiting Simple Voice Chat to a donation tier. I'd like to argue that while at first it's inclusion may not seem like aq big deal, it's actually a HUGE deal. Imagine snooping on the conversation of an opposing civilization nearby, or providing quicker information to fellow civ members of an attack, or just generally quicker team coordination. For these reasons, I deem this a competitive advantage to Factions, and while I do not expect it to be made free, I at least would like your consideration or thinking, since not every Minecraft player has Discord, and most Java players use mods to make Java reasonably playable to begin with.

    At the end of the day its MILES ahead of what we had before which I think is a win. Microsoft, a company that's been very hands of with mojang finally taking action is good to see

      I wouldn't say Microsoft have been hands off with Mojang. I can see how they've pulled strings more and more as the years go by. But if they drop the "omg, think about the kids!!1!" attitude when accepting servers (In terms of the no swearing, etc requirements) then I think this server list might be the rare good change they've made.

    I think the idea of having a server list in the launcher or in game is huge. Server list websites are kinda pay to win in their own regard, so to be able to prioritize fair server listings sounds like a great way to deal with them. And also on that note, since microsoft's server list is supposedly unbiased, that would mean people could intentionally vote for servers that do not have gambling mechanics, while not voting for ones that do. We would have to have a large portion of mc players doing this to make a difference, but the fact that someone cant pay to push a high voted server down is a good start.

    Nah bro, if your server doesn't get in because of the "casino thing" then that would be sus as heck. I've played on Lover Fella's server in the past and that exact casino setup is built in so many shop bases. And his server is on their website.
    Also the vague eula from Mojang, I don't ever see them clearing it up because just like RUclips and many other companies, they like being able to take things down if they don't like it personally. And having a vague eula allows them to do that.

    Yk, If you want to track down as many people as possible who making PTW servers in order to ban them in such a way that they couldn’t come back with alts this would be one of the best methods. Just get those people to officially register for these server lists then wait a while before mass banning them, now with enough info about the real life person to be able to track down any alts they might use. Though I doubt that’s Microsoft’s plan.

    I know Microsoft didn't like crates because of gambling and wanted Mineplex (bedrock) to phase them out.
    In general the guidelines are vague and what is considered problematic has changed over time and the amount Mojang has focused on enforcement has also not been consistent either.

    Yeah, it was my complaining about player casinos that got me banned from MineSuperior. It doesn’t matter if the “games of chance” ie: slot machines, are for real money or not. The Statute’s of the US (where most servers are hosted) prohibit offering games of chance to minors.

    I used to play on a prison server on Manacube... It was heavily P2W cause they would reset the whole server every(x) amount of days, I think it was like 30-60 days(give or take).
    And if you were a F2P player, you would lose all of your items, achievements, upgrades on your pickaxe, etc
    And in order to grind for the upgrades on your pickaxe you would need to grind and grind, and grind for hours just to get to like 5% of what a P2W person has.
    Then there's the paid currency was still obtainable by you voting for the server(but you would only get 0.05 per vote) and trading 800K in-game currency, called: Mana. For 1 paid currency, which I forgotten the name for it.

    The issue of gambling is a general problem in the gaming industry. Loot boxes and crates are not considered gambling by law. This is also the reason why companies such as Supercell or Hoyoverse make extensive use of these mechanisms. Nevertheless, their games such as Clash Royal or Genshin Impact have an age rating of 12 years.
    By the way, I find it very interesting that the Minecraft community is losing its mind over things like the marketplace, while other companies like Supercell and many others use manipulation tactics to squeeze out money from their players.
