It’s worth noting Ben Askren’s never been considered a “striker” meaning his fighting style doesn’t use many punches. He’s a grappler, preferring to wrestle his opponent down to the ground and use submission moves or chokes to knock out his opponent. While he’s a very accomplished mma fighter his skill set translates in a uniquely bad way to boxing compaired to other ufc fighters of his caliber. That being said I still think it’s rigged because he should know how to defend punches better than that even if he doesn’t know how to throw them, and he’s clearly capable of taking more punishment than that.

Yeah because in boxing, they generally go to the 10 count. Its not like in mma where the ref has to jump in and stop the other guy from continuing to hit the guy. The ref tells the other fighter to stand back, he turns around and starts his 10 count. At this point Askren got up, but was wobbling against the ropes, but gained some composure. The ref was about to start the fight back up, and askren was leaning into his hand a bit, he looked at him, Askren look dazed, he called it.

It’s worth noting Ben Askren’s never been considered a “striker” meaning his fighting style doesn’t use many punches. He’s a grappler, preferring to wrestle his opponent down to the ground and use submission moves or chokes to knock out his opponent. While he’s a very accomplished mma fighter his skill set translates in a uniquely bad way to boxing compaired to other ufc fighters of his caliber. That being said I still think it’s rigged because he should know how to defend punches better than that even if he doesn’t know how to throw them, and he’s clearly capable of taking more punishment than that.

Like to me the ending of the fight felt scripted for jake paul, the ending was WAAAAY to over dramatic fkr what it was. This event just didnt sit right with me. This isnt even me talking about the knockdown like everyone else, i agree with critical, it looked fuckin cartoony especially when you watch robbie lawler vs ben comapired to this, that fight was only 2 years ago, not like 8 or 9.

The ref doesn't even run to Ben when he gets knocked down. He just walks over to him and is like "Oi you alrite there mate?"
Yeah because in boxing, they generally go to the 10 count. Its not like in mma where the ref has to jump in and stop the other guy from continuing to hit the guy. The ref tells the other fighter to stand back, he turns around and starts his 10 count. At this point Askren got up, but was wobbling against the ropes, but gained some composure. The ref was about to start the fight back up, and askren was leaning into his hand a bit, he looked at him, Askren look dazed, he called it.

“the MMA” lol. But in all seriousness, Ben Askren made his whole MMA career doing everything BUT boxing and stand-up fighting. He was one of the biggest examples of wrestling-focused fighters there’s been.
The thing is that MMA and boxing are very different. Stripping back someone's MMA experience of judo + wrestling + kickboxing + jiujitsu to just plain boxing is a big mental and physical transition. Beating an MMA fighter in boxing is like beating a football player in the 100 meter dash. There are some correlatives, but it's just not the same

Well Boxing/Muay Thai is the cornerstone of MMA striking. And MMA is more of a fight than boxing is. Ben Askren also isnt a slouch, he's laid dudes out and hes a good enough striker to compete in the UFC.
