It looked a lot like an FA-18 but longer.
When the alien ship was downed you hit it again, and again and again with full 50+ MT nukes. The ship was damaged by a low kt nuke and every silo worth anything would be readying large yield ICBMs. The city is already lost, go for the Hail Mary.
It was actually down for ths count but more than likely the commanding officer of the ship survived and activated the auto repair from the alien like super computer. In other words if he died then the ship is officially dead. All confirmed in the sequel.

This is the first film about alien invasion that seems realistic humanity can't win their plan is perfectly executed

Humanity can't win because we made aliens too strong in a realistic alien type war we would have a way better chance figuring how both sides wouldn't know what theyre dealing with but because we made aliens they just had to be stronger then us because plot lol

Ɗéɇ ẊĶ Its not like we made aliens in movies strong without a reason, as our own human history teaches us, when a more advanced civilization meets a lesser one, they tend to conquer, dominate, enslave, eradicate or something of the sort. If an alien civilization is advanced enough to travel through space to our planet then they would be the advanced ones, and we are the species that will be dominated.

One of the few most recent alien invasion movies i actually liked. I truly hope this one gets a sequel. They did leave us at a cliff hanger at the end of the last one.

As far as i know this is the most advanced alien civilization we could ever see in a sci-fi movie.I say that because their motherships are also organic creatures with metal,even their suicide ships are also organic wich means that this alien race does not depend on metal,and also because of the ability to reconstruct their ship when it gets destroyed.In the second movie we see that their able to build smaler ships with the rests of the mothership.To me the most advanced alien race ever we could see in a movie

If aliens have the technology to come to earth, they have the technology to destroy it
And _even if they have not_ :
If you defeat the invasion forces, the aliens can just send a "real" force next time, or if they don't have that either, they can "tech up" and build a real one. It's not like they didn't have anything in orbit to transmit recon data etc. back home.
Most "Hollywood Aliens" are incredibly stupid. If they ARE that stupid, they're most probably the equivalent of some commander redeployed to a backwater location because it's easier to do that than to discharge them for their incompetence - and in that case, if we defeat them, the next one they send won't be half as dumb.

As cool as it is watching the F22's dogfight with the alien ships. This would not have happened. Especially after the drones failed with a nuclear strike.
The Navy & Airforce would not have waisted valuable men & machines in a fruitless engagement.

Anyways I see that the B-21 Stealth Bomber is a thing here already and most of them are predator drones (?) that looks weirdly like an A-10.

I agree, they sent in drones at first and nuked the aliens, if that didn't work you can be damn sure they wouldn't have even wasted the manpower or resources for a full scale Human attack. Not to mention the entire city at that point would've been irritated from the nuke itself, sending in the troops would be a waste of lives, even if to evacuate civilians.
The appropriate thing to do would probably be to bide their time and discover ways to fight the aliens effectively, unfortunately that means civilians would probably die, but perhaps they could send in small strike teams to evacuate them. The aliens aren't invincible, and I'm sorry but if bullets can kill them, or even explosives a nuke can. Their alloys are shown to be destructible, which means the nuke should've wiped out their ship and drones within. I love how Hollywood tones down the sheer power of the nuke, for instance nukes reach temperatures hotter than the internal temparatures of our sun. They also create epic shockwaves which can tear apart even the strongest of bunkers and metals. Not to mention the largely organic composition of the aliens, meaning radiation is probably a factor. Granted if these aliens are spaceborne they probably insitlled ways to resist radiation as a whole; but that doesn't negate the other effects of such a weapon.
love those alien designs with the blue shining lights, felt the effects of higher quality when I saw it some years ago though

I have this film on DVD, when at the start of your video (the scene comes later in the film) the car gets stomped, I had a 'check pants for cake' moment. I've always though this film was under-rated, the CGI was seamless and gave credibility. The subplots don't detract, instead they give depth and a baseline. The skin changing looked very real. Skyline is a great film.
People hated on it because the acting wasnt A-1 but what sci-fi horror movie is. And last but not least reason maybe #1 the Aliens win
I'm just gonna say it; this film was much better than it's terrible sequel.

@@_reb0og It definitely hasn't aged well at all... I could easily find a movie from 2010 that has better CG with a similar budget... It's all about how the directors and producers handle the budget they have, if they focused it on writing and acting then you have a good plot, bad CGI and effects but if you pull a Michael Bay and press the "all budget on effects" button then you have a lightshow with a bad plot
The brothers who made this literally did Avatar and many Avengers movies look up their production company they have done some of the most expensive cgi movies.
They didnt show the very end damn. That's essential to understanding this whole movie.

Seen the Preview back in 011, Watched it on TV in 012, Was worth it, Something new that like indipendance day could suck a nuke and still keep coming.
I remember being a fan of chaotic scenes after seeing war of the worlds the wither storm and skylines
I bet after that gas line explosion and jet fighter crash, the big thing is still alive
uhhhh.. that nuclear warhead wouldn't have just destroyed the alien space ship, but vaporized it....
Acting and effects looked like a student film's effects in 2010 but its a Hollywood blockbuster with a pretty good plot

In all alien invasion flicks :
1. Plane crashes all happen in slo mo
2. When beaten , a human may kill themselves in a fiery explosion
3. Some aliens move really slow to allow the hero to escape
4. The Army never has enough fighters to destroy the mothership
5. Nukes have almost no effect on their ships
6. Widespread property destruction
7. Many expensive cars are destroyed
8. The ending is Always Heroic in some way
9 . There is always a message about the indomitable human spirit !
10. The invaders have almost no understanding of war and tactics
And are easily defeated by primitive means.
