      The ship losing power doesn’t change its direction. The power could go out completely and they would still reach homestead, it would just take much longer. They are basically on a ballistic trajectory. The power resetting doesn’t change the ship’s orbital mechanics. When a ship is launched into orbit, it throttles down when it reaches MAX-Q, that doesn’t change the direction it’s going in.

      You need hull plating thick enough to not let radiation through, and the ship is absolutely massive, it's very plausible just from that
      Add to that the plasma shield the ship has running that would add further protection : NASA made reports stating the physical process if a plasma radiation shield as sound (but it would be hard to design, though in the movie they already have it)

      @@TheAkashicTraveller Sorry. Wrong. Inertia and velocity matter. If the crew is moving 50% light speed... (as with the ship) Any sudden course correction would rip them apart.
      Any course correction at that velocity would have to be done in the most minute amount of trajectory change (i.e. the equivalent arc of the orbit of Pluto for example) in order to not kill the crew instantly.

    • @TheAkashicTraveller
      @TheAkashicTraveller 5 лет назад +5

      @@captcorajus Relativity say's I'm right. So far as the people inside the ship are concerned, no matter it's velocity, they are stationary because they're relative velocity to the ship is zero. Acceleration is the only thing that matters.
      Now that said, the need to keep the acceleration within safe limits does limit the maneuvers the ship can pull off without killing the crew. If it can't see far enough ahead to avoid obstacles it really shouldn't be going that fast anyway.

    Got a big TOKAMAK style reactor with plasma spinning around at a few million degrees? Put a massive window in engineering so everyone can be blinded by the intense light and burned by the stupidly high temperature...
    I do admit, I liked the light show the reactor gave us, but doing this on an actual spaceship would be absolutely moronic. They could have made this scene without having the massive windows. They could show the inside of the reactor, see the unstable plasma and then show us beeping screens saying the temp is too hot and the reactor is unstable, with a few alarms going off (info people can see). You still get the dramatic effect, without this nonsense.

    So many things are wrong in just this clip.
    1/ Space should really look almost pitch black. 2001, made decades ago, looks way more realistic than this
    2/ Why did the AI not even try to avoid the asteroid field
    3/ why are the lights on as they are sleeping? Seems like a waste of energy
    4/ Terrible editing
    5/ The gravity thing as pointed out

      @Dylan Kimble the 3rd one makes no sense since the lights were on before the failures happened i believe, on the second one it's also because of making a turn at 50% light speed would probably shred the ship apart. on the 5th one there's probably a failsafe to keep the gravity increasing from a problem with the drive

    I seen this movie twice. most fascinating: reading the comments, Some are most interesting. First off, It's fiction, just like in the real world of space exploration, so is the making of movies, Cost prohibitive. getting all those redundant back up operations built
    in to the film, cost big time, messing with the original story line. Rolling back the clock,
    I would of been around 14 there about: ? I'm 75 now: My parents leased an adjoining side of the house, The guy was an SU Mathematician, he was going to work for Nasa, once in a while he would talk to us, tell us some of the science / tech that went in to building a space craft. in short for those who don't know, it works this way: His portion of the work to be done, comes via dividing an area space in a section of the space craft, take a 2ft by say 18 inches, Q, what can we make to put in that space, for say it is sectioned off, and the talking heads say we want this and this,
    say 6 items that will be apart of the operation of the space craft, Someone looks at his qualifications and say to him, this odd space, we want you to make this to fit in this area.
    it's all peace meal. with many hands. It's all one of a kind: There is no mass production.
    they mess it up, it's start over.
    I want to add, The Universe is by intelligent Design, all to the Glory of GOD. It's speaks to His Greatness. Jesus is LORD.....

    That last scene where the male character had to open the main vent manually to cool the reactor, I didn't like. He should've died from the intense radiation poisoning in the fire. If Interstellar and The Martian can nail science perfectly in sci-fi films, this shouldn't slip by.
    Other than that, good movie.

    • @jarhead565
      @jarhead565 6 лет назад +1

      But fusion reactors would have to leave some sort of byproduct as a form of exhaust. No element can fuse together perfectly with no remainder of protons or electrons. So the radiation would have to exist somewhere in that type of reactor (especially when its ejecting tremendous energy to power a ship, into space) Some form of radioactive energy has to exist to pierce through the suit and into the skin. Fission reactors I can see having a much lethal form of "exhaust", if you will, expelling out the ports.

    • @samuel.hricko
      @samuel.hricko 6 лет назад +3

      LOL, Interstellar and The Martian nailed science perfectly? Such as love surpassing dimensions, "quantum data" being sent through black holes and high-speed storms in practically non-existent Martian atmosphere?

      @7 Bizarre Lane That's bullshit, basic physical laws are going to be valid no matter how many years into the future. There are things that haven't been done yet but could one day, and then there are things that we know now won't be possible.

      @@jarhead565 You, my friend, made an excellent exposition, but you're terribly wrong.
      Fusion Reactors, like the one in this movie, surely produce some waste and that waste is in fact radioactive, but it is radioactive at such a low level to not pose a serious threat to any form of life and also they produce such a negligible amount of waste and radiation that even if the containment of one of those reactors fails here on Earth, heck even behind your house for instance, that won't pose much of a threat to anything, let alone destroying the planet.
      Fusion Reactors produce like 30 times less waste and that waste has such a low amount of radiation and at such a low energy state that it will decay in a few hundred years at worst, not a few thousand like nuclear waste.
      Not to mention the fact that fusion reactors are expected to produce way way way more power than nuclear one with just a fraction of the materials needed and an even more little fraction of waste.
      Thorium Reactors are expected to be even better as a temporary solution to renew nuclear power, since they produce more electricity, with less fuel, less radiation and less waste and pollution, thus environmental impact.
