Vivek is a great guy. He stays like 10 mins from my place. So once when he announced a book giveaway, i went to his lovely house. He had a huge pile of books at the window ledge which he was handing away for free (and i picked up the greatest Bengali stories ever told which he mentions @10:00 along with Wonder and Passenger) and i was mesmerised with his hospitality. A lot of people just kept coming, picking books and he attended everyone! Kudos.
I am so delighted he recommended "The Summer Book". I was in Helsinki a few years back and walked into a huge bookstore and asked the lady at the counter to recommend me the quintessential Finnish novel and this was the book she recommended. (even though Tove Jansson is part Swedish & Finnish). As for the rest of the recommendations, quite interesting. Many of the books are quite popular. I would love another episode where he recommends something more unusual. Thanks Vaani & Chalchitra Talks.
It's been a month that I discovered Chalchitra talks and I am really enjoy their content. Really like how intently Vaani listens to her guests and makes engaging conversation. Great work!!
Loved this interview. Also, now that you have access to so many authors and industry insiders, could you do a video that is like a guide for novice writers? Where you discuss various platforms that are there for new writers to showcase their work. Also, a bit on how you can make writing a financially viable career and so on and so forth. It can be a huge help for beginner writers.
16:48 I agree. I remember I picked up a book from my Village Library during lockdown without any expectations. It a collection of stories about the people who come out after serving lifetime in jail and how their lives changes after, how the families suffer! And it was so so touching and enlightening. It was difficult to read as the writing had specific local accents but it was worth it! I don't know if there is a English translation available but it's called যাবজ্জীবন (Life Imprisonment) By Mahashweta Devi
Wonderful recommendations.... i would like to add..... among Indian authors - amrita pritam.... her work too is amazing and unforgettable along with mahadevi varma.
