The addition of the belt is good for those heavy carries. Yes it's important to #freethehip but it's also important to place some weight on the hips when needed and #freetheshoulders too.
The pack design have Own identity almost every point and feathers think a lot . I saw V2 pack John and Andy work hard to give the pack so cool also strong I am concede them.
I am used to packs that have adjustable torso lengths because I like to have a hip belt that both support a bit of weight, but also straps on to the body firmly so I can jog some sections of the trails. This is my main issue when looking at ultralight setups and ordering something that you really cant try out in the store. Durston Gear supply information on what torso lengths are recommended, but I dont know how to measure my own torso length (where it starts and stops).
nice video! It is fun to see basic old and working design features, be forgotten and re-invented or better, used again. Like the v-shape with a wide top - used for hundreds of years and still used with no hip belt in grape harvest baskets 'packs', the '30 -50ties German/Swiss mountain Jager packs, then came the outside frame packs, the internal frames, with their hip belts, and now the Simpelpack:) About the buckle; introduced some 15 years ago, because it's ease of use and one handed operation. Mainly large climbing pack manufactures like bergaus, mammut, lowe, start using them. Even today Black Diamond is using one on their smaller packs. One disadvantage next to that the buckle is more expensive is especially for climbing packs that experience more movement, that deform the pack and so loosen the tension on the strap, that the buckle came undone. You would not like that to happen with your crampons, or belay jacket hanging in a face:) With a hiking pack nowadays, this is, except may be when used with a full bear canister, unlikely. And a very nice easy feature.
Now this is how a gear review should be done! Having the previous models present. Nice job. Have a safe journey on the PCT. I am looking forward to the videos.
I can see your affection towards these packs :) I guess on the trail the closest thing to a friend is your pack :D And these seem like a reliable bunch!
Dude seriously! It's something that is with you every second. On you around you, visible, and often times more recognizable than the person themselves(every guy looks the same with a beard) so it's something I've cared a lot about finding what was perfect for me
Good real world and practical use review of the pack..love there company and ideas...im sure the v2 will make it the whole way for ya..good luck bro..enjoy yourself out there..the details are all covered thats for sure..
They have those cool buckles from 6:47 on the REI Trail 25. I'm sure they are on others, I just have my Trail 25 sitting next to me right now. Super cool because they're much less likely to breaking. Do you know if the buckles on the V2 are metal as well? They look to be the same.
Seems like they really nailed it with this iteration. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the pack after your hike. Good luck on your yo-yo attempt!
Excellent review/comparison. Can you access your water on the side with the pack on easily? Or how big of a bottle will fit in the chest shoulder strap pocket?
I can very easily access the water bottles on my side, I personally use anywhere from just a half liter bottle there to *two* 1.5 L bottles in each side pocket. The shoulder straps aren't made to exactly hold bottles but you can fit the small skinny bottles. This however if it is a strong desire for you the "Joey" pack they make holds normal bottles on the shoulders. I personally keep my phone, map or guide, flashlight, snacks, or other things I need to have very easy access to there!
I’ve got a question about these style packs, 30-40L with excess material rolled up: Is there stated volume for when they’re filled to the brim? What sort of volume is there in the main compartment with it rolled up as it is the video? .k x
Love your videos Jupiter! You, John Z, and Neemor have been a big inspiration for me to work towards my Triple Crown, and I've learned alot from watching all of your guys' videos. Ill be SOBO on the PCT starting Aug. 1st. Hope to see you out there. Happy trails, and best of luck with your yo-yo attempt!
Hey Jupiter, great video. Was about to buy one and they're out of stock. Can you recommend an alternative to this pack? Would be a huge help for me to choose. Thanks man. Russ
The Trail Hunter sure a mountain laurel designs burn, relatively inexpensive and extremely reliable lasting folks upwards of 6,000 miles before they face issues with it.
Hey Jupiter! Been learning lots from you and guys like John Z. I'm considering the V2, but I can't find any information on their site about the recommended load capacity. What would you say would be a maximum load weight for the V2? As much as 25 lbs (considering the hipbelt too)?
Jeff Schroeder yea I'd say 25lbs or maybe even just a little more! I think in extreme situations of long food or water carries where the weight would diminish quickly you could go higher briefly and it wouldn't be so bad. Under 20 is certainly most comfortable tho
Right on! Thx for the quick reply. Dude, enjoy that PCT yoyo. That'll be an adventure. You guys are inspiring. I'm hoping for a GDT attempt in 2019 (fingers crossed).
I bought an osprey exos 58 for my son 1 year back and it has stretchy shoulder straps pockets, I think Pa'lante first created these but it seems like most pack companies are jumping on the wagon.
I'll seriously look at this pack when 20-30 miles per day don't kick my ass ... when I can carry less food and hike more miles. It's about efficiency and until I reach that level the pack wouldn't be a good fit, at least for me.
Thanks. I like the V-shape. My dream is a huge bag that cinches down to carry size, but which I can easily rummage through. Why is packing stuffing and squeezing and then cinching down? What does it matter if your pack is an odd series of bulges? The V-bottom is a smart solution, containing the bottoms of long sacks and rolled gear. The 'squeeze' right where it can do the most good. Black? I'm sick of trying to find black stuff in black car and bag interiors. (We are in the age of ABS for better or worse). I have some black carpentry screw bags I spray white Krylon for plastic, the material sucked up the paint, but just a little more brightness makes all the difference. I think your review would be better with a real load of gear you actually travel with. Empty water bottles? This is almost cute model couple in khaki shorts ad shoot.

Great review, I actually have the same type of closure hook they use for the top, on the compression straps of my REI Trail 40. I love it.

He sounds like my son... gotta have plenty of access to snacks! 😂😎👍
Hey there love your vids. Do you think it is possible to fit a cut down nemo switchback pad inside the pack?
Awesome! can't wait to see how it holds up and i'm looking forward to testing mine out!!
Great video Jupiter! I just got my V2 also and I can't wait to take it out there. Also can't wait to follow your yoyo! Happy hiking
I love my V2 Palante Pack.
Thanks for the overview man!
John Abela sorry it's not as detailed as you'd do, but you do it so well I wouldn't dare to even try!! So here's my take

Hi fyi Lowe alpine have had that hook closer for year.
Love your video's

Don't' forget one of the biggest improvements they widened they shoulder straps and have much more of an S shape

BumLife Productions wow thank you so much dude!! I will definitely see you out there and maybe we can get some miles!
Good luck on your yo-yo! You have something about yoyo’s. 😝
Hi, Does the snap buttons closure is durable ?
Great simple pack review. 👍👣👣👣👣👣👣👣👣🏔 can’t wait to see the packing of 7 day food with Bear canister......
Oooh custom pack. Nice vid, keep it up!
Does anyone know when they will be available again?
Why is it called Thru hiking and not Thru Backpacking?
hey jupiter do you have the 16 or 19 v2?? thanks for all ya do
Hey Jupiter, great video. Was about to buy one and they're out of stock. Can you recommend an alternative to this pack? Would be a huge help for me to choose. Thanks man. Russ

Hey Jupiter, thank you so much for the speedy reply. Good luck with your PCT NoBoSoBo hike. Can't wait to see your adventure unfold.
You are gonna look like a day hiker again! less restriction of movement will help against all those bears you are gonna have to fight...
Hey, is this bag entirely waterproof?
What's the fabric on the straps and pockets? Is that a custom print option or is that what they are using now for the ones on their website?
flytuc1 it's a grey dyneema gridstop!
JupiterHikes i mean is that how it come with that color dyneema ..doesnt look like that on the website..
flytuc1 the one on the website is the black dyneema gridstop

The man strap seems to be a bit long - any tips on keeping it from flopping around?
Ryan Lim cut it shorter, or slide it into the outer mesh pocket i suppose!
PCT round trip 🙏Namaste🙏Hare Krishna 😇
Do you have cruelty free down jaket and sleeping bag? Do they even exist?
Would you maybe be interested in selling one of your old backpacks? :)
No Frame?
I want one of these so bad.
James Stalnaker I hope you can pick one up!! A pack you really love is such a nice thing
After my big trip this year I'll seriously consider it!
Hey Jupiter, do you have a hip belt on yours?
Clay Platt I don't! I'm only carrying about 5lbs base so still prefer not to
Why is it that every big box pack company seems to miss the obvious utility in stretchy strap pockets?
I bought an osprey exos 58 for my son 1 year back and it has stretchy shoulder straps pockets, I think Pa'lante first created these but it seems like most pack companies are jumping on the wagon.
Hi how much is the new basic v2.
Love your video's
Thanks

Can you please show your full gear layout for this trip, thanks.
sdnalyam yea!! I'm getting to the gear video, just need one more thing to finish my kit for this year
JupiterHikes , I saw your ECT gear review ,one of my favorite! Enjoy your style, looking forward to following your PCT hike
@@JupiterHikes is it still coming can't wait
Are you sure you don’t want to come back to Publix?
Notso awe man I sure miss working at Publix!!! Maybe if they let me leave and come back periodically, I mean I am already trained!

John Z made a short video of how he would pack his bear canister in the pack. It's informative ... get the advice from a co-creator
Has your load out changed?
Walter Robertson mostly yes I think so, I'll do a new gear video soon. Experience and a different mindset brings change
JupiterHikes sweeeeeet cant wait to see the new set up
See ya on trail this summer. I’ll be rocking the V2 as well. 🕺
Awesome!! See you there
You going to take a yo-yo on your yo-yo?
Badger I am going to bring a yoyo! Should have a gear video up pretty soon
