  • In this video I'll show you a "temporary fix" for an rattling catalytic converter heat shield. I've used this technique on more than one vehicle with great success. In this video I'll be using this technique on my own 05 Honda Odyssey. It worked well! Hope this helps!
    Please note: Barbour's Auto Help makes no guarantee that by following the steps and information found in this video that you will make an accurate diagnosis or quality repair. This video is very superficial in nature and is only intended to assist you in diagnosing your vehicle.
    !!!!WARNING!!!!
    Repair your vehicle at your own risk. While this channel will always strive to give you the most accurate information regarding automotive repair it would be foolish to assume that by watching a 5-30 minute video you too will be able to repair your vehicle without any errors or risk to your safety or risk to others safety. Costly mistakes can and will happen. When performing automotive repairs there is a high risk of personal injury. There is also a high risk for EXTREME frustration. There is also a risk of damaging your vehicle. This channel assumes no responsibility or liability for any personal injury or property damage that may take place using the information found in this channels videos. While the videos featured on this channel do go into detail about particular repairs this channel does not claim that the information provided in said videos are 100% complete and accurate. YOU MUST HAVE A REPUTABLE REPAIR MANUAL FOR THE VEHICLE THAT YOU PLAN TO WORK ON THAT CONTAINS THE INFORMATION YOU NEED TO PROPERLY REPAIR SAID VEHICLE. Follow all repair procedures as outlined in your repair manual. Compare the information in your manual with the information in this channels videos. Follow your repair manual over this channels videos. Follow all safety instructions and warnings found in your manual. Also, read and follow the instructions for any piece of equipment, chemical, or tool that you may use in any repair. Also, check out the owners manual for the vehicle you are working on. There is a lot of good, important, and helpful information that can be found in it. Finally, above all, do everything you can to keep yourself safe. WEAR SAFETY GLASSES. WEAR IMPERMIABLE GLOVES. UNDERSTAND THE CHEMICALS YOU WILL BE EXPOSED TO AND GUARD YOURSELF FROM THEM.
    Note: Even the most educated, seasoned, and talented technicians, or mechanics, are still subject to personal injury and property damage while performing automotive repair. I say again, use the information found in this channels videos at your own risk. Repair your vehicle at your own risk.

    My 06 odyssey has the same problem
    Dealer quote me $700 to fix
    After watched your video, I was able to tight it
    No more noise now
    Thanks

    THANK YOU!!!! I spent hours and $$$ trying to find the noise source. A $2 hose clamp and 10 minutes of time on a lift cured it!!! Big Thanks!!!!!

    Great tip, especially with a universal fit with the wire. I did the big hose clamp fix on an older HONDA v6 and it worked but was difficult to get in and in place and then more difficult to get a tool on it to tighten it. This is a lot simpler to do and the cost is pennies! I really love simple but effective mechanical fixes like this! At this point Honda is asking $1200 for each front and back cat and the exhaust pipe with the cat is $1700!!!! Thanks a million Mr. Barbour!

    I think you can use a six-inch hose clamp (a.k.a., worm drive clamp) for a more secured fit: or connect two 3-inch clamps if the six-inch is not available.

    Heat shielding should be made from perforated stainless steel and secured with brass bolts. Car manufacturers are generating income for themselves by not engineering the parts correctly, on purpose. Yeah it costs a few bucks more to make it out of SS but saves car owners from nuisance repairs and taking days off from work......

    • @BarboursAutoHelp
      @BarboursAutoHelp  7 лет назад

      +SWells679 If it holds and doesn't rattle then roll with it. It's just supposed to be a "temp" fix. However if it starts rattling again for this reason you don't have to replace the cat if you can put up with the noise.

    Hey, I have a ‘19 accord. This the second time a rattling sound has appeared. 1st time dealer fixed it was good for some time now it’s back again. I don’t know if I need to change my mounts or heat shield because along with rattling there’s a lot of transmission movement for me

    I just bought an 06 honda odyssey a few months ago.. van has been making this noise the past few weeks... I looked under the van after watching this video.... there is what looks to be wire hangers around the heat shield. Should I remove it and replace with the twine or hose clamps? Or should I just take it somewhere to replace the shield being as though obviously this isnt the first problem with this.

    • @BarboursAutoHelp
      @BarboursAutoHelp  5 лет назад +1

      Well, it's my understanding that the heat shield can't be replaced apart from the cat converter. So, it's up to you. The best fix in my opinion is to replace the converter.

    i have an audi A6 2013 CVT automatic. it makes a vibration sound specifically at 1800-2000 rpm ( im pretty sure its at 1900) ...... could this be my issue do you think? it doesnt make the noice stationary whilst reving.. the car runs amazing.... just this noise..... also after that RPM and before.... theres no noise atall.... but if i maintain that RPM it will continue.

    A repair shop would try to get you to pay to replace a working catalytic converter because the heat shield rattles???

    • @BarboursAutoHelp
      @BarboursAutoHelp  5 лет назад +1

      Yes, replacing the converter would be the proper way to fix it.

    • @BarboursAutoHelp
      @BarboursAutoHelp  5 лет назад

      Let me rephrase that. It would be the proper repair if the heat shield is not repairable. Sometimes the spot welds break. Its possible that some may be re spot welded for a more permanent repair. However I've not seen one that can be re welded.

    Sounds like similar to my issue that I’m having a hard time to figure out. ruclips.net/video/gzMcBwnThQg/видео.html
    Rattling only happens when engine is under load (around 13000 rpm) while driving (on a gear) but does not sound while revving engine at same rpm while on park/neutral.
    Can you suggest anything I can check? Sound is very irritating as you can hear. Thanks
