    OMG, I love you! My Mercury Sable makes a really annoying rattle the entire time I'm driving, not just during a cold start up. But it sounds like it's on top of the engine, not underneath. I'm hoping it's not the vvt sprocket but I'm not a knowledgeable car person, just small engine.

    Wouldn't the washer catch heat from the shield and conduct it to the rubber ?

    • @ashkenad
      @ashkenad 3 года назад +1

      The double metal washers will reduce heat transmitted to the rubber. Yes it will get hot, but the idea is that the double washers will reduce that heat compared to if there were 1 or no washers.

    Before I even see the video I want to say that the rattle you're hearing is probably the 10mm socket that was lost in the engine bay...

  • @BisonFreedom

    Is this the same noise as when my vehicle sounds like their is like metal moving around, when I have the heat on or no heat and no a/c on.

    I had a couple underneath my Xterra making noise for years. There was NO WAY to rescue them long term so I finally cut them off. I figured if I had to I would wrap the area but so far no problems. I don't know what kind of rubber will withstand that extreme heat but I doubt those will. They'll either melt or turn brittle & break away, then the rattle returns.

    Personally I would not have used the rubber piece in there, it will cook, get hard and brittle and crumble away and you will be stuck with the same rattling issue. Assuming it doesn't start a fire...

    • @skyBlueAlisha

      They make silicone washers that can handle the heat way better than metal. I literally have rubber cooking pans that I use versus metal. Same with curling irons they can burn your skin off in just a few seconds but handle my curling iron for hours.
