I'm surprised you didn't include the Hi Point 995TS; It is inexpensive, eats both cheap and quality ammo without a burp, is surprisingly accurate, and is a gas to shoot right out of the box. Yes it's not tactical enough for you two, not too many upgrades; but for those of us who don't have a lot of $$$$, it's an accurate and reliable option for both fun, run & gun and self defense. It's Guaranteed for Life, Made in America, and with the Hi-Point approved, 20-round REDBALL Sports mags, it is no longer a 7 pound, 10 round toy.

Hey Eric. I absolutely love the videos that you and Chad do. I do learn a lot from them. I value the knowledge, experience and opinions of both of you. I've seen the video of the JR Carbines and found it very informative. I went to my local gun store to purchase one in .45acp. Upon arriving at the store, I told the owner what I was looking for, and he suggested the TNW aero survival rifle. It's very much like the JR carbines, and also comes in various calibers. The main selling point for me on the TNW was that it came with optics, where the JR did not. I was wondering if you would do a video comparing the 2 carbines. I know that various ar parts can be used in the JR's, and was wondering if the same could be said about the TNW's. Thanks in advance.
    Wesley.

Great review. My friend just bought a Kel Tech, and I like it. The stock is a little flimsy for me, but it is functional. I'm old school. I used to work at the largest gun store in Indiana with 3 indoor ranges, etc,. But, that's been long ago. Back in the late 80's. I love firearms. :-) Varmint rifles are my weakness, but I also love AR's, etc, and trying to get back into shooting again. I've been ill for several years and had to get out of it, so your reviews help big time.

As a recent HP Carbine owner I ask that question too. I suppose if I could afford a 2000 dollar sbr, a 1000 dollar can and a couple of 200 dollar tax stamps I might be tempted to have a top 5 carbine in the closet. But instead I have a HP that works amazingly well and shoots to point of aim.

Ran Kelvin I agree! I've got 3 Hi Point 9mm carbines, two 995TS models&the original stock that looks like a "planet of the apes" gun. They do what they're supposed to do,they've been reliable, everyone who's shot mine thinks they're fun to shoot,& I'm not concerned with what gun snobs think of them. The 20round Redball magazine is a sweet addition to the 10round magazines. I'll take a "take it out of the box&shoot it carbine" over a "fiddle with it till it works right" designer carbine anytime.

I am possibly looking at getting a Southern Gun Co 9mm "lever release" rifle. Seeing as I couldn't own any of these in the UK due to them being semi auto, with the SGC rifle it locks the bolt back after every round fired and you manually release it each time with a lever where the safety would be on an AR with your thumb. That is about as close as I can get to any of these sadly. I would love that MP5...

Having seen an M-16 original stock, buffer and spring go flying from just bouncing against an 80 pound pack at Parris Island in 1985, I think I can safely say that the Beretta Carbine's stock felt like a well balanced bullpup. Try low crawling with that JR and what looks to be a not very tightly held magazine. Besides, gas pistons rule.

From a 'life and liberty' standpoint aren't 9mm carbines a little pointless compared to a handgun? Unless they are select fire? I can see the fun factor but given you can get a 30 round mag for a glock what advantage does a carbine really give you?

Well if you’re looking for a great home defense or truck gun these are actually great. They won’t over penetrate and potentially injure an unintended target, and 9mm out a of a 10+ inch barrel has similar ballistics to a .357. A 30+ round .357 seems like a badass home defense weapon to me. .223/5.56 are more for hunting, or if all hell breaks loose because those guns were designed to shoot targets at a distance, not within typical self defense range.

Rak-9 from the factory has a threaded barrel. Has a interchange plate for glock, berreta, and Luger mags with adapters. Has the dove tail side mount so you can buy a picatinny adapter. Already has polymer foregrips and has thousands of parts that will fit because it’s the same size as a ak-47 but is labeled a carbine because of the 9mm rounds it shoots. I think the best part of it I have noticed is the simplicity of the mechanism which almost 100% mirrors the original design. I purchased it for 699 total after transfer fees from GB. It’s not on this list because it’s a professional through and through

  • @sogerc1

I have a stupid question about the carbines that take glock mags: do they have to look that stupid? I mean I'm guessing the mag has to sit in that weird angle because that's how it sits in the pistol relative to the barrel but must the magwell be that thick so the whole thing looks even uglier?
