I have pre-ordered this for solo play without knowing too much and hoping for the best. This looks fantastic and quite closely mirrors a 2 player game without much overhead or removing parts of the game. Even more excited to get it hopefully later this year.
Thanks Paul. The solo opponent looks much easier to run than the sense I was getting from the rules. Definitely adding to my list to seriously consider.
Thank you for doing this video. I can’t wait to get my preorder copy to play solo. Two things I noticed… 1. When you built your statues, you didn’t get the bonus of moving up a track for each one 2. When the volcano destroyed your farm, it should go back on your console not out of the game Thanks again
I looked at the 3 Person Playthrough and at the Solo Playthrough. Absolutly love your videos. Was looking and searching for the rules videos but since I got my box and read the rules next to your videos. The rulebook is a really good one. Loved your Voidfall rule video. Tomorrow night is my first 2 player session and saturday a 3/4 Player session is planed. I'm looking forward to it. Game looks fun. Thanks for the effort. Videos are awesome
I'm actually super impressed by the solo, maybe even moreso than the multiplayer game. The bot seems elegant; like you I hate bots that feel overcomplicated in management and feel like I appreciate BYOS more and more, but this one seems really good. I'm really starting to lean towards the game; still just that price tag giving me pause, but I'll eventually cave, right...
Paul, thanks for another amazing video. You cover so many of the games that I think I might like. After watching your videos it is easy for me to make a purchasing decision because I know forsure bye the end of the video if it is a game for me. Thanks again.
Played this solo yesterday and V.I.C.I constantly did procreation and migration, completely the opposite of your game Paul... Lost by 21 points. For me nice and easy solo experience
After watching all of your videos on Civolution, I have made the decision to purchase the game. It looks to play quite well at any player level which I do enjoy. The Automa VICI doesn't seem to be too bad. I am sure I will be trying that.
Hi Paul - I watched Edward's solo stream of this and some of the climate cards have double movement on them but I still think the sums work as we are only looking at up and down. Regarding VICI, according to Learn Latin by Peter Jones at the time of JC Vici was pronounced Wiki. By the 5th century V had replaced W and the K had become a soft c so Vici rather than Viki which also applies to Vinci.
I don't think there's much point in keeping it a secret that you like the game Paul. You just need to look at your face throughout the play-through. You clearly love it! Can't wait to try it myself at Essen.
Nah, it's all pretend. I don't like playing games at all. I'm more of a 10-pints down the pub, go for a curry, then a fight at a local nightclub and get arrested. :)
May have been said already, but I think you shorted yourself some points. When you build a statue, you get to go up one of the progress tracks. So you could have had some more bonus actions or had extra points from era scoring. Or I may have just missed it.
Thanks for letting me know. Just got my copy a couple weeks ago. Hoping to play it soon. Also bought Daitoshi and Bitoku because of your recommendations.
Thanks for the playthrough. Good to see the solo … it’s not my style so I’ll be looking for a variant that doesn’t have the overhead but am so looking forward to my preorder getting delivered.
@@GamingRulesVideoscurious about this as well! I don’t normally solo games like this, but I am very tempted to order this after watching your content, and soloing might get it to the table quicker than I can get a two-player game going. On the topic, how is it at two?
I am not sure I have the dedication to play this solo (time-wise), and it is too complex for my husband to want to play, but I have enjoyed watching all of the Civolution videos you have made.
@@GamingRulesVideos Yes, I watched that one, too. It is still longer and more complex than I really enjoy. I love Star Wars: Outer Rim (with Unfinished Business), but I have tried it solo and it is simply too much for me: too long, too much to set up, and too "solo". I miss the interaction with other players. At least I have a couple of friends who will play Marrakesh with me.
Thank you Paul - excellent play through. Regarding your two games with ? 4 cold cards each - they have no effect on each other unless you forgot to shuffle! For four consecutive cold cards (assuming 20 cold and 20 hot) I believe the probability is about 4.5%..
The change of flipping a coin 4 times and gettings tails each time is 6.25%, but yeah, this is more complex because once one cold card has gone, there are fewer in the deck. But it happened in 2 consecutive games :) And almost happened in this one!
@@GamingRulesVideos Yes, so you are referring to 0.5 x 0.5 x 0.5 x 0.5 whereas with the cards it is 20/40 x 19/40 x 18/40 x 17/40. I have always enjoyed probability which is, of course, an important component of game playing.
Paul, how does Civolution compare for you against Marrakesh? I love both games, but I'm so conflicted on which one is more fun for me. I'm curious on your thoughts.
Superb playthrough - thoroughly enjoyed my 3 hours with you and I've pre ordered. Question - I think you tied the game?? Right at the end around 2 hrs 46 you went up the yellow track with your fate check which got you an income chip. You just got the point. Couldn't you have taken the chip, installed it in the last stage 2 section for 4 VPs plus that would have flipped your stage 4 tile, so your initial income chip would give you another 7 points - thus tied game?
My Goodness… almost 3 hours for solo.. Paul, which game from Stefan Feld do you recommend for solo players that would like to play less than 90 mins and preferably around 60 mins?
Did you forgot to at a token on the board for vici during era 2 during the feeding step? Adding a second proficien (idk how to spell it) in the forest blocking you from building a farm in it?
The probability of drawing 4 cold cards in a single game is 5.3% and for drawing 3 cold cards in the first 3 rounds is 11.5%. So your total chance of drawing 11 cold cards in a row is 0.032%. For 2 games the odds are 0.28%.
How would you rank Galactic Cruise, Civolution and SETI ? Especially from a solo stand point. I read that SETI takes 3 hours for solo. Civolution takes probably 2 hours. What about Galactic Cruise ?
@@GamingRulesVideos ok. And when it comes to multiplayers experience ? Galactic Cruise over Civolution over SETI, right ? Or Civolution is your favorite with repeated plays ?
I love Feld games, but they’re always so thematically bland. This looks like a nice change. Still awfully abstract, but the theme doesn’t feel tacked on this time. I’m really looking forward to this one.
Update: got my hands on the game. This is an incredible game. The solo game works well. But I was utterly lost on how to play my first game and was absolutely destroyed by VICI on beginner difficulty.
Thanks a lot, Paul. Since I’m primarily playing solo these days, your play through is much appreciated. You sold me on this game.

Thanks Paul. The solo opponent looks much easier to run than the sense I was getting from the rules. Definitely adding to my list to seriously consider.
Great playthrough Paul! I'm only 35 minutes in but I think this one is on my "to buy" list. Thank you and happy holidays!

Thanks Stacy. And yeah, I did forget those two track bonuses. So... that means it would have been EVEN closer!
Good to know about the farm.
Thanks for the great demo Paul. I will have my local game store order a copy for sure.
Thanks for coming through with your opinion there at the end. I adore this game already
It's really hard not to talk about a game that I love.

Thanks for your playthrough Paul. AND also for your thoughts, on this fantastic looking game 👍
Great video, Paul! When you built the statues you have missed to get your two free moves on the tracks.
Yep. Someone else mentioned that too me. It means I would have probably won!

I almost jumped out of my seat when I heard 'erbs instead of hhhhherbs. Was not expecting that lol

Still on the fence. I would get this for solo. Do you think there is enough replayability solo? The card play seems a bit weak?

There’s something about the art that reminds me of skymines somehow…..

Thanks. I did miscount the number of cards in the deck. There are half the number I said.
Have you considered 2K or 4K videos? Would be nice with all the small fonts.
I don't have the current technology or bandwidth to be able to live stream at 4k I'm afraid.

I’m not sure
So when the tutorial video is coming?
Hopefully in the next couple of weeks. Covid and other stuff got in the way.
@@GamingRulesVideos Srry to hear that. I hope u are getting better. I wish you all the best. May the life force be with u 🙂.
4 cold cards in a game = 5.3% chance. Making it 0.28% chance two games in a row!

I would like solo more if VICI wasn't just a two player game. I would have preferred 3 bots
