  • We show you how to install cable and housing for grip shifter on on a mountain bike. The same method would be used for grip shift on hybrid bike. Included is how to measure and cut and install derailleur housing, rear derailleur cable replacement and finally, adjust rear derailleur cable for best gripshift performance. The components on this restored Mongoose mtb are older 3 speed shimano but the idea is the same for most other grip shift and the derailleur adjustment is similar to a road bicycle.

One of the best minimalistic explanations on the back derailer. Thankyou, Boss. 🚴🏿‍♂️ 🐢🏞️

Is the cabling of the front derailleur much different from the rear?

No. Adjustment is a bit more involved if you're running a triple as in the video. Easy if you're running today's compact. A lot of today's mtb are running a single chain ring requiring not front derailleur / shifter.

Can i use wd 40 instead of isoprophyl alcohol ?

When removing or replacing a handle bar grip, you want something that will easily evaporate so that the grip does not move , wobble or shift position (possibly coming off). Isopropyl alcohol evaporates in minutes. WD 40 will get the grips off but will leave a residual film of thin lubricant such that when the grips are replace, they will move around and may even come off will cycling.
