  • Years after loosing my 7th guest discs, I finally found them.
    I decided to give it a go so I booted it into DOSBOX and completed all of the puzzles.
    The ending seemed very lackluster and i am curious about the special effects that went wrong.....

    What a great game! I spent tireless hours as a kid on this game, often late at night and would get freaked out sometimes. I loved EVERYTHING about it. Amazingly, I got this game for FREE. It was in the software pack for the first computer my parents bought back when software packs were actually good. It was the first real computer game I played, which of course set me up for disappointment with every subsequent game I tried. Still, this game will always hold a special place in my heart.

    This game was way ahead of its time, you cannot even find half the gameplay the 7thguest and the 11th hour had nowadays...

      This game was one of my childhood favorites for sure, Slowly figuring out how to solve the puzzles one by one.

    The original ending in the script involved Tad getting captured, the house 'eating Tad', then the house mutating and becoming alive. The players point of view (Ego) would then be seen running out, down the stairs, and out the front door.
    Then, the player would appear back in front of the attic door, saying something like "I remember this, I've been here before", and this time, he wills Tad to live. The house eats Stauf instead, and the cycle is broken. This last part is the only part shown.

    my mom played this game alot in the 90's but never beat it since over time she got way to busy, i found the game in the closet about 5 years ago and it worked on my laptop with windows xp on it so i played it minus the music during gameplay but i got to this puzzle and realized she never beat it and i called for her and we beat this puzzle together and she got to see the ending of this game

      Awesome story, Im glad you guys made it through!
      the hardest part I had playing this on a modern computer is the science puzzle runs too "fast" the AI always wins it seems unless you under clock the game somehow

    To add to my last comment, the reason they scrapped the first part of the ending, was because they couldn't have live actors on moving backgrounds. The attic couldn't mutate while Stauf was present, and the 'special effects' of having the house mutate while you backtrack out of the house was too technically complex.
    There are clips in the game data of entering the attic with the lights on, and the front door opening, which are never used. They're on my RUclips channel, if you're curious!

    i just love the "practical" special effects like the acid barf,the tongue gripping tad,stauf turning in a skeleton and the fire etc. it got this 80's horror vibe. i Really love it and still find it creepy

      The only problem comes in with the microscope puzzle and the AI being overpowered

  • @charlesbonkley

    Nope. That's the correct ending to the game, with no loss of effects. The midi music is worse, but overall a true-to-1993 ending. "Grate move!"

    Am I the only one here troubled by Elinor's death? I mean, what happened to her? Is she turning into a doll? Was she decapitated and mounted on the mannequin? The way she is calling for help while the boy is there sounds like she's not fully aware of her surroundings or what's happening to her. And where is her head now? Is it... still alive somewhere? I'm sorry but Elinor was one of the few actually good guests and it's a little upsetting how she's possibly dying nightmarishly but I can't figure out what happened to her.

    • @Aurochhunter
      @Aurochhunter 8 лет назад

      +JaggyTheJaguar Yes, she is turning into a doll. The game isn't very clear about her fate, but the book is.

      Book? Which book would that be? I am unfamiliar with The 7th Guest as a book, and only familiar with The 7th Guest PC game. The only other book that I am familiar with that is related to The 7th Guest, would be the official hint book.

    To this day I still don't really understand how you're supposed to figure out the last puzzle. My brother just randomly clicked on windows until we finally beat it. I assume it's something to do with the shape of the windows, but it really didn't take very long to just guess it. 🤷‍♂️

    • @AntiNuLL
      @AntiNuLL  3 года назад

      there is a method to it

    • @bubblegumxo
      @bubblegumxo 3 года назад +1

      @@AntiNuLL after rewatching this, I'm confused. Do you REALLY just have to click 1 window for the final 2 floors? Or is it because of how you did the first floor? Like I said, i remember my brother guessing it and beating it pretty quickly, but I remember it taking SOME time. It's been almost 20 years, so maybe the solution IS that easy. Definitely MUCH easier than say, the bathroom puzzle (worst in the game imo), or the bishop puzzle.

      I think the original game pulled the audio off the CD tracks, and I'm guessing when playing on DosBox, those tracks just weren't there (probably just an image of the data track, perhaps?)
