Mel Bonis: Pastorale Op. 156. Henrik Berg, organ.

Pastorale Op. 156 by French composer Mel (Mélanie) Bonis (1858-1937), played on the 1906 Setterquist & Son organ in Falu Kristine Church, Falun, Sweden. This piece is a reworking of the piano piece 'Aux champs' Op. 13. The organ's façade was inspired by the famous 1631 Lorentz organ in the Holy Trinity Church in Kristianstad, southern Sweden.

Here’s another lovely piece by Mel Bonis, this time no drama, nor the often present melancholy, but just charm and pleasure!🤩It so happens that the third Sunday of Eastertide is the 'Good Shepherd Sunday', and what would be a better fit than a pastorale? (Pastor = Latin for 'shepherd'.)🌳🐑The gospel reading is from St. John, where Jesus describes himself as the Good Shepherd who lays down his life for the sheep. It’s also the season of lambing right now, so let’s just imagine those little newborn lambs in a rural scene with shepherds playing their pipes while nature slowly awakes…🐑🌱🪻 And as always, don’t forget to click the thumbs-up and subscribe!😃

Well that day I was in the north of Sweden (Umeå), and even though it was a sunny day I spent some time dipping myself in the Baltic Sea through a hole in the ice sheet, which was still around 30-40 cm thick...! Combined with sauna of course. Around +4° in the air😅 Up there they call this season "spring-winter", because there's still lots of snow everywhere but temperatures are above zero with the sun warming and days are already pretty long (not far enough north to have midnight sun though) - feels like spring, looks like winter!
