sickest normal baking method
Thats brilliant!
Amazing tip. Thanks!
Stunning.
Thank you. This is kind of essence of what I saw in "How to Fake a Large Scale Forest in Blender" on "CG Boost" channel long time ago.
This was so helpful! Thanks a lot!
Thank you so much Sensei !!
Wow. wow. wow. Thank you so much. This is amazing.
How does this have only 10k views?! This completely changes the game man!!
Simple but effective!!
that's neat!
Genius! I alrdy have alpha trees addon but its cool to know the trick now
This channel will never cease to amaze me! Love that
Actually this is the best method so far for large tree scenes, we can also use an addon called alpha tree generator that automate this process. However I also saw another addon that render the tree from different direction, released some months ago.
You can also overlap a few (like 6 for example) billboards for different angles, this works well with smaller plants and shrubs for example. Thanks for mentioning the add-ons, I’ll check it out!
what is the addons please ?
Thanks for showing this method, I'd love to do large scenes but haven't found a way prior this to have optimized larger scenes because of having older end of GPU (1050 ti OC with only 4gb of VRAM..)
the best emang tutorialnya blender secret,, mantap 👍
thanks
wow!
Wow! I'm actually working on a project that needs this right now. Thanks!
Hey this is cool, I posted this method on twitter a while ago !! Glad to see people are finally using it
Confirmed: Jan is a wizard.
Thanks! Now im able to make the entire earth in real scale
I would love to find a way to fake subsurface scattering similarly. I think it's key to making silhouetted plants look great.
That is actually fucking genius.
awesome !
how did you load the texture on a plane?
this channel even utilizes viewport shaders
I think you should have said this in the video: if you use trees that have plains instead of leaves, you need to render everything in the same way as a regular picture, only in materials the normal map should be directly mixed with transparent bsdf, and alpha should be in the factor, then scene lighting will not work on normals and they will be displayed correctly, the same must be done with the bark if required. And actually you may want to do same exact same thing with diffuse, just to get rid of unnecessary shadows, but it some cases it will look flat
Dayummm
thats crazy...
is there a way to make billboarded images look different from every angle (like for example enemies in the older Doom)
THATS WHAT THAT MATCAP CAN DO!?!?!? omg i just thought it was for lookin cute.
Amazing trick! Also - is this method of rendering normals accurate? It sure seems faster than baking normals. I like to make 3d meshes in to flat textures and it seems rendering that normals mat cap would save me a lot of time.
This method surprised me! But it seems to check out... I think as long as you're "baking" to a billboard specifically, this method should work, because that matcap seems to just follow the face normals, so my guess is that it would work with any mesh for billboards!
@@DavyJones61 yeah it's worked so far for my needs (Greebles style plating) and no need for baking thank God!
Oh, that's awesome! Yeah I imagine this tip will save a lot of people a lot of time (or just help them make their billboards look better), myself included
Super awesome!
Does it work with buildings too?
I would assume any object you can capture a billboard of in this method. To take a step even further, you can even render out animated billboards. Want a space scene with hundreds of asteroids? Make a few high detailed ones. Render a looped animation of it spinning, using the same process in video, and plug into a billboard. you can then use with geo nodes or particle generator to create an animated asteroid field with barley any gemoetry usage!
Cool idea!
@@franciscojacobo2341 this is probably going to be a CG Cookie video with over a million views or one of those under other generic blender channels that are extremely popular in about a week
Holy crap! How did... how do you even... how does one... just wow, man.
Smart, biggest hack ever, not recommended in a big scale production as it will look cheap
But a good hack for stylistic scenes.
Oh boy, that's simple genius.
Hi! Is there a way to add normal maps from a mesh to these global normals? And is there a way to use alphas from leaves? Thanks
ruclips.net/video/6oNCCWslveM/видео.html
My normal image was wrong because the leaves is rectangle plane.
Hi, i saw another video of someone else who made the tree like you did but he added a sphere to data transfer normals to make it look more 3 dimensional, unfortunately he only explains how he did it, he didnt gave a tutorial about that, can you make something like that please
Sure, I made a video about that a long time ago: ruclips.net/video/SuQakwmCuRM/видео.html
@@BlenderSecrets thanks a lot for reply, i saw that video before but how can apply it on image plane.. Here is the video of the guy who made that tree " ruclips.net/video/B-5txK4yvRA/видео.html " 🤗
Lol. I was the only one brilliant enough to use this method in a popular racing game map maker. That was years ago. They still dont do it.
Don’t use area light .. use a overcast HDRI
cool trick.....reminds me id tech 5 game engine...from 2011...
I think blender need a realtime engine and Features
otherwise ita lacks importand feature and fall behind decades....
why is pulling the normal map such a convoluted process? is there not different way to do it
I mean I know it didn't take long but put so many mouse clicks
Excuse me!??!?!? What kind of witchcraft is this WTF haha thanks for the info!
