I downloaded it and messed around for a bit. I can see this being super useful. The auto vertex painting is such a nice little feature, as I always find that annoying to do in Blender. Thanks for another great bit of info!
Yeah it's a really handy tool. The best thing is, you can always use it as a starting point and then import it into Blender and make changes (most common would be making the branches blend into the trunk a bit better) but it will still maintain all the vertex paint.
Dang, this program is pretty great. The newer 2023 version looks like it's a big changed, I don't see a split option anymore, but hopefully that means it crashes less as well :D Thanks for the tutorial brother!!

wow this is awesome this is just what i needed. as fun as it is to make trees for games using unity, my unity skills are very weak. if only there was something like this for generating and making skydomes and HDRI with stars/weather and so on. i havn't found any that don't use ai but i'm on the lookout for cool tools like these
This is a bug free and most complete tool for making any style of the foliage... Just create your leaves or branch in a new scene and import it as texture(render to texture feature) ot use as 3d mesh... In this node you can create a very high poly tree models
Hey man, this is so awesome! Question: When importing the trees into UE, the shadow side of the tree is very dark. How do you control the backside shadow color? Do you also use that duplicate+flip normals trick from your foliage tut for the leaves? Because some face normals may be facing the wrong direction. Thanks for these awesome tutorials. These really help me a lot!
Inside Tree IT , you can use double sided or non- double sided with 2 faces geometry. Try both of them Also you can use Maya and "Set to face" option from Mesh Display menu to face normal into the correct direction
Nice, I have The Plant Factory which has a lot more features but is only available as part of a subscription bundled with Vue. It's nice but I think I have been paying way too much for it considering I'm not making trees every day.
The downside of subscriptionware is feeling guilty that you aren't using what you're paying for haha. I try to avoid subscriptions at all costs, excuse the pun.

If I want to make the leaves fall off gradually as it becomes winter untill the trees are bare is it best to import the models into blender and play around with morph targets or is there an easier way? I was going to make seperate models of different stages and just have them swap models through the seasons but I imagine that way would be a bad idea.
If you're using leaf cards that are set up as 1 leaf per texture, you could use a UV gradient to make the leaves invisible from stem to tip. You could also use the Vertex Colour that corresponds to the leaf root-to-tip that is usually used for wind animation stuff
Tried this with UE 5.2, can't seem to get the vertex color / wind simulation to work, don't know if there is a separate tutorial for it, realized that you have to set vertex colors import options to replace in the UE import settings though it was not mentioned but that didn't fix it either, in vertex color view I don't seem to have any color set on the mesh. Wish sometimes these things just worked straight away like it seemed to in the tutorial but guess I am missing some pieces.
Hi. What is better? Speedtree or treeit? I've seen speedtree trees work with wind sources in ue5. Or better use custom material for global wind from Your tutorial?
@@Саша-з4п2к it depends on the style of your project, and your own workflow/material setups. I personally use a custom wind function that suits all my needs, but I haven’t used speed tree or the built in functions in UE

For some reason Treeit doesn't seem to be orienting the normals in the right way on my side... Don't really know how to go around it, tried to orient de normals in a spherical way in my modelling package but it doesnt work either :/
I downloaded TreeIt as it seems like a fantastic free alternative to SpeedTree, unfortunately when I add leaves (and change their attachment point to the right location), some of them will be incorrectly rotated, and that's with everything set to default. And I have no idea how to correct it, seeing as some of the leaves are attached correctly, so changing anything obviously makes those incorrect instead. This was also using one of the textures provided with the program. Any idea what the issue might be? I'm also really enjoying your videos, very inspirational!
I do have a question. Using this and the global wind tut you made, how would you make a tree like a willow sway? i.e. - have the trunk swaying from the pivot, but the leaves being pushed by the wind in the opposite direction? Only look I can get with the simple wind is that the whole tree sways one direction and the long leaves move in the wind a little.
Veeeery good question... You could try making the leaves much shorter, and then deform them downwards using World Position Offset AFTER the swaying but before the individual wind etc etc. That way they would be deforming downwards in worldspace regardless of their orientation. I do something similar with my Falling Sand meshes so they stretch out downwards regardless of their orientation. Let me know if this works!

You can to some degree - there's a setting to turn the Squares into Diamonds. If you're concerned about overdraw though, you should look in to the Early Z-pass settings :)

@@Wakeful23 I think it depends on the style - for photo realism you’d usually be used pre-made assets for a lot of foliage, but for stylised stuff there’s nothing wrong with using a tool like this to achieve the look you’re after. Especially if it saves time and money! Haha
Very good question :) Since I'm from Australia, we use PAL standard which is 25fps, 30fps, 50fps and 100fps. Since I have my camera set to PAL and my monitor is 100hz I cap my in-editor framerate at 50fps and record footage at 50fs :)
It depends on how many vertical/horizontal loops to choose to use when making the trees and the density of leaves. Basically, more triangles = more cost.
I'm not 100% sure, I usually just use the materials in TreeIT as placeholders and apply my own materials in engine. I think there are options to export the whole material along with it, but there's no guarantee it will convert perfectly into UE4.
Hey Syber! Inside your leaf material you can get a Texture Sample and then click it and select the texture you want to use for the leaf. Then plug the R channel (or maybe the A channel if that doesn't work) in to the Opacity Mask slot of the material output
The material/shader won't import from TreeIt, it's just there as an example. You can follow my "simple global wind" tutorial for your own custom wind function :)

If you are a blender user you don't need this software, as the same gen algorithm is integrated with an add-on (only the interface changes). Edit: The bender plugin only works with the model, it doesn't have any kind of animation capability, I believe.
I've just downloaded the program, I made a tree with branches, leaves everything as you showed in the video. Everything looked perfect I exported the file as a fbx file to my desktop, I opened my ue4 project and when I imported the mesh the trees were glitched(they don't even look like leaves anymore lol) and the tree is not even moving. Any ideas why this is happening ?
Hey Kriskata! You'll need to create some materials for the tree to use (you can use the same textures that come with TreeIT), and the tree swaying is a part of the material :) you can follow my Global Wind tutorial if you're interested in getting your trees moving!

when i import the tree into ue4 i have a weird effect where the tree will have a lot more motion blur than other things in the level, if i disable motion blur it will still have some weird effects like being semi transparent from a distance. Ive tried applying the scale in blender and what not but it doesnt seem to be doing anything.

I don't believe so, although Unreal has a few options to generate billboards I think... I can remember someone linking an article about Octagonal billboards generated in-engine in our discord
Keeps crashing my UE5 on import...Can't figure out why. Edit: It doesn't crash if I select skeletal mesh. However it does look a little wonky, the leaf texture shows the entire jpg, not just the outline of the leaf.
It's all sorted, although the trunk will use a tiling texture by default. You could always import into Blender and UV the trunk yourself if you wanted to paint it etc

How do you make the normals for your bushes like on a sphere on 7:30? My grass cards look ugly, cuz I dont know how to do that

Subbed - this is incredible but how do it get the tree to animate in unreal? The FBX doesn't seem to carry animation information!

Hey there - the polycount is adjustable in the program. You can choose how many faces the trunks/branches have and if the leaves have segments or not

Hey Kriskata! You'll need to create some materials for the tree to use (you can use the same textures that come with TreeIT), and the tree swaying is a part of the material :) you can follow my Global Wind tutorial if you're interested in getting your trees moving!

when i import the tree into ue4 i have a weird effect where the tree will have a lot more motion blur than other things in the level, if i disable motion blur it will still have some weird effects like being semi transparent from a distance. Ive tried applying the scale in blender and what not but it doesnt seem to be doing anything.

I don't believe so, although Unreal has a few options to generate billboards I think... I can remember someone linking an article about Octagonal billboards generated in-engine in our discord

Keeps crashing my UE5 on import...Can't figure out why.
Edit: It doesn't crash if I select skeletal mesh. However it does look a little wonky, the leaf texture shows the entire jpg, not just the outline of the leaf.

When I build my lighting after importing a tree from TreeIt I always seem to get the error overlapping lightmap UV's, any suggestions?

i have one problem which is that if i put the leaves on two sided in unreal engine only one side of the leave get light, anybody have a fix?

Maybe im missing something but what about the UV.
It's all sorted, although the trunk will use a tiling texture by default. You could always import into Blender and UV the trunk yourself if you wanted to paint it etc
