Apparently, the serial number on the Broadcasters' metal plate doesn't tell you if it was made early or later. I've heard they had a big bin of those metal plates with the serial numbers already printed, and when it came time to slap one on the guitar, they would just reach in the bin and grab a random one.
Oh, don't I wish I had won the Super Lotto as I would have cleaned Norm out of all his vintage Strats and Tele's. Thanks Mark for the chance to see these amazing pieces.
The early serial no. on the Butterscotch Broadcaster doesn't mean it was the 22nd guitar made. If i remember correctly ,the serialized bridge plates were all stamped at once, thrown in a box, and picked through at random when assembling the instrument. That guitar is the absolute pinnacle of awesome, but it isn't the 22nd Broadcaster made. That thermometer case is SEXY too.
Is it just me, or was he kind of rough with the cases and guitars? It looked like he closed the lid on that last '67 hang tag? Ouch! I'm more careful with my 1969 Telecaster that's beat up!
People’s comments crack me up on here. Mark has handled and played more vintage guitars than virtually anyone. His ring banging the neck? Here’s an alert, necks are generally a hard wood that’s cured, it’s not pine or balsa wood, you would have to work at it for your ring to dent the neck. Guitars are meant to be handled, even vintage ones in excellent condition. They are not paper machete. Sliding the case across a smooth tile floor, OMG! The guitars have been stored in these cases for years, that’s why they still exist, you can bet the cases have plenty of bumps, scrapes etc. already. I’ve purchased a vintage guitar from Mark, the guy is great and knows his stuff. Calling him stupid just shows your ignorance.
Hey guys familiarity breeds contempt..... Actually once you are accustomed to handling something you are better able to just how to handle it without all the pomp and circumstance. Same is true of handling animals, glass, etc. Looks heavy handed but he probably dings far fewer than you would.
IRISHSTEW 21 Mark did a few "Secret Stash" videos before launching GOTD. And notice he had not yet started using the footstool to place the guitar cases on. lol!
Norm. *knock knock knock* Norm. *knock knock knock* Norm. *knock knock knock* Let's see the strange guitars. Like...if you have any Mosrites and shit like that.
***** People need to be less stupid then maybe they would realise that these pieces of wood arent magic and a high price doesnt mean they are even that special. As I said, its just a box. You can pick a new, better one up for a couple of hundred pounds.
***** For me these are tools not antiques. Yes they have sentimental, cultural and historical value but any musician that would spend that much on one has lost some of their marbles. Things like this belong in museums if they are antiques. If they are not then they should be treated as what they are. Functional equipment. It pains me to hear people like Gilmore, Beck etc being scared to take out their 50s and 60s strats/teles because they cost so much. What kind of life for a guitar is that?
***** Im sorry but I disagree. These items have as much cultural relevance as a fresh off the line fender guitar. They weren't used by artists to record "important" pieces of music. They are just guitars. Things dont gain virtue just from existing for a certain period of time. There needs to be more substance. I think its obscene that people would waste that much money when you could get a luthier to build a better guitar 10 times over for cheaper than the price of some of these guitars. Its stupidity of the highest order :)
He has a bit of a tude when you try to approach him in the shop...but maybe that's because I'm a young guy and not some aging relic rocker or rich lawyer or doctor in a suit.
I love the shop and the guitars, but looks like are done in SPEED, very fast and see no details and so in a hurry the quality is crap, is a constructive critics , no with intention to put it people down , but when u show that beauties and expensive instrument, looks like a very amateur show clip. Thanks for show the guitars , i know u have the capacity and recognition to make it better. and i m sure many agree with the poor queality of the clip , and a lack of time.and cameraman are very bad .all details of the guitars is out of focus.
Geez you crybabies whining and cringing about how Mark handles the guitars make me laugh.. these are USED vintage that have wear, tear, & scratches from the years on the road.. The previous owners have banged their own rings, zippers and damage to them LONG before Mark even handles them.. Whats the difference between Mark's so-called "dings and scratches" that differ from the previous owners??
Dddd dd you're the clueless idiot.. Norms is a used vintage guitar store not an art museum so therefore my opinion stands if you cry and cringe at every zipper and ring bump (which doesn't harm the guitars at all) then why watch the videos? Go watch and look at guitar museum websites ya whiney little child
Mark only handles the guitars a few times for these videos the "bumps and scrapes" do not take much affect until after you wear them down after a long period of play wear on numerous shows, practise rehearsals and long tours etc.
YOU made a point that it bothers YOU in your previous replies! I never said it bothers me. re-read my comments again VERY VERY carefully.. and yes I know its a vintage store you dolt! I never said they were museum pieces. I was pointing out that there are crybabies out there bawling their eyes out every time Mark handles them with his zippers and rings. They dont seem to get it in their heads that the guitars are the property of Norm until they are sold to new owners. they dont seem to get it that the guitars are flying out of the store and the new owners dont care if Mark scratches them AFTER watching Mark handling them in the videos
Mint?? geez you crybabies make me laugh.. these are used vintage that have wear, tear & scratches from the years on the road.. The previous owners banged their own rings and zippers on them LONG before Mark even handles them.. The beginning of Guitar Of The Day

I am drooling !!!!
Is it just me, or was he kind of rough with the cases and guitars? It looked like he closed the lid on that last '67 hang tag? Ouch! I'm more careful with my 1969 Telecaster that's beat up!

Hers was actually a refin, and poorly at that.

Hey guys familiarity breeds contempt..... Actually once you are accustomed to handling something you are better able to just how to handle it without all the pomp and circumstance. Same is true of handling animals, glass, etc. Looks heavy handed but he probably dings far fewer than you would.

Love the video, but PLEASE make him take the rings off his fingers! It kills me every time I hear it crack against the necks!!
He has a bit of a tude when you try to approach him in the shop...but maybe that's because I'm a young guy and not some aging relic rocker or rich lawyer or doctor in a suit.

NiagaraTim the fact that if he keeps on doing that the collector grade guitars will become player grade and decrease in value
Danny Matten so what you're saying is famous stars dings n scratches are far more valuable than Mark's?? 🤣
