    I love that you did this review, Dustin. We have a lot to learn from the Dutch about how to design bikes that are both practical and fun to ride. This one has so many features that make it great for commuting, like lights and fenders, and they don't look like cheap add-ons.
    On a side note, Gazelle stills makes an old-style steel Dutch bike called the Tour Populair, and I REALLY want one.

    Finally a bike RUclipsr I like covering a non-garbage e-bike.
    Gazelle is the only highly advertised brand (at least in my feeds) that isn't poop.
    Take it from your friendly neighborhood e-bike co-op guy. Do yourself a favor and get a mid drive Bosch or Shimano powered bike from a shop near you that'll work on it.

    Interestingly, and old friend of mine used to call bikes with a sloping top tube "mens bikes" as opposed to conventional wisdom. When asked why he said, " when you crash there's no cross bar to crush your potatoes on, ergo Mens bike"
    Can't argue with that logic...

    This is a really interesting review. I've honesly been considering an ebike for my commute, and gazelle are a great brand.
    The spec over here is a little different, our ebikes don't assist at as high a speed (but you get more range), but basically it's the same deal. There's also a higher spec option that can take a second battery so thats pretty cool, something to consider if you need more range or just want to run it on turbo everywhere.

    Schwalbe's "tough" commuter tires tend to be too hard to have good wet/cold grip, so really watch out for the black ice or greasy road if the bike is intended for all-season use. Speaking from someone who fell once with the Big Apples and another time on Marathon Plus...

    • @papalegba6796
      @papalegba6796 Год назад

      These Energisers aren't as stiff as the tyres you mention cos they don't have as much puncture protection (though they are still very tough), but they're made from a harder compound so are still not performance tyres by any means. Fine for steady commutes but hard cornering is a very bad idea lol. I run mine at a slightly lower pressure for comfort, loss of rolling resistance irrelevant as it's an ebike & I never commute more than 20 miles a day anyway.

    Bosch motors are very good but have a design flaw. If the chain comes off between the front cog & motor casing it gets jammed solid & can be very difficult to remove. The full chain guard on this bike makes it even harder, so remove it & replace with either a chain retainer device or a retaining ring on the cog. Honestly, its a serious design flaw that doesn't get the attention it deserves, everybody I know with a Bosch motor ebike has had it happen to them.

      To be fair, these are schwalbe energiser, which aren't as stiff as marathon plus. However, they're made from a harder compound so are still pretty unforgiving & do not handle well on corners. I run mine at a slightly reduced pressure & ride steady on them (I only use my ebike for commutes & errands, it's basically a work vehicle), and as such they are very good tyres, very durable, good in wet/gravel/slush if ridden carefully, & no punctures after 1000s of urban miles.
