- Who needs AC in a race car? Honestly it's kind of nice, but we're deleting it today in the time attack FRS so we can save some weight! It's a pretty easy process that's straightforward as well so let me show you what we need to do!

Just a heads up that sensor that you doing know what is it it’s your “ambient air temperature sensor” make sure you put it in a nice sturdy place that gets lots of fresh air! I learned the hard way I put my oil cooler in front of it and my car didn’t want to run right until I figured it out and moved the sensor.
I'm going to reinstall that small mount and put it back where it was. Thanks for the heads up!

Did this on my car, love it! Still defrosts foggy windows in rain and extreme cold. For those interested, the Grimmspeed tool tray still bolts up just fine!

Sorry bro but AC is just as important as a transmission or engine in Florida. My last fun car was an EK with a gsr swap. Unbearable during not winter

I did this mainly to make the engine bay look a lot cleaner. I never use AC anyway so it's not missed.
I'm quite surprised the aircon was not very heavy, very interesting though.
I think when all is said and done I'll be taking out a total of 30lbs for the hvac system.
Just like every 86 going back the AE86, the AC inevitably gets deleted.

Everything is surprisingly light on the FRS/BRZ and therefore weight reduction is often expensive stuff rather than just stripping out weight. It's part of what makes the FRS/BRZ so easy to work on. The real AC weight reduction comes from pulling the whole WVAC system which would mean no heater or fans.
What a great mod, not sure if I can live without AC in the summer though!

I have a serious question for anyone who knows the answer. Why do you need a pulley to replace where the compressor was and re install that belt? If all it does it connect that to the crank, couldn't you just leave everything off?
Because the original belt would be too long and wouldn't work.
@@KevinVo I guess I don't know the layout of the serpentine in these cars. I was thinking it was a separate belt.

Bruh 15lbs is not worth it. I guess if you're always tracking it with the windows open, it makes sense because the AC won't do anything.
It makes sense on a race car, on anything else it would suck haha
