I don't care what they say, I will always love this version of the film. Not the Director's Cut nor the European release version. THIS (the North American version) is the version I grew up with, and for me, is the ONLY one that counts! With the beautiful, sublime, and oh, so soothing music of Tangerine Dream to give it its ethereal, dream-like quality. And the 2 incredible power ballads playing at the end by Jon Anderson and Bryan Ferry! I also prefer this version's ending with the young lovers going off together into the sunset (instead of the platonic ending of the DC). It was the perfect date movie for its time.
Absolutely. I first saw this with this soundtrack. Then years later it was on TV with the other soundtrack it was so disappointing I had to turn it off. It ruined it for me.Tangerine dream is THE soundtrack to this.
Me too! I’d just crank up this music and lay on the floor, soaking it into my soul. This music has always taken me to the most surreal, ethereal heaven I can imagine. It’s almost like my soul is remembering a place it used to belong to, and still kinda does.
Looking for this forever. Thank you. I was two when this came out, and all my very young and fond memories in the 80s were movies. Legend, labyrinth, never ending story, dark crystal, Conan.... I was obsessed with fantasy as a child. I watched these over and over.
OMG I LITERALLY HAVE BEEN CRAVING THIS SONG!! I loved this movie when I was little it was so magical and felt like a dream I've been searching for it I didn't think anyone else out there would ever post this I thank you a million times
You’re right. I think that is what they were trying too portray. That jack and Lilly we’re both living together in an Adam and Eve type of life, which was an innocent type of love in their own little Garden of Eden until Lilly touched the Unicorn, which was like their version of eating the fruit from the tree of knowledge.
This story had a deeper meaning. Look at his earlier works and knowing the depravity of Hollywood now. The story is about the balance of good and evil told as if a fairy tale. But maybe it like life is not so cut and dry. "I influence mankind through dreams." Dreams in ancient times was a very big deal. The unicorns represent far more than I couldve ever imagined. Light can be fragile.
you can see it clearly once she lays eyes on the unicorn, if it was apparent before it is then, she is lusting after them, to touch them, to somehow enter their forbidden world in which she has no place. Then the darkness creeps in... Fantastic movie.
Takes me back to being a teenager, this is the best music for this film it complemented the film perfectly. I cannot watch the film without this soundtrack. Thank you for the upload
I was a teenager when this came out and I wanted to see it so bad. My dad was in his late 50s at the time took me to see it, he loved the movie better than I did, he said it was the best of its kind he’d ever seen. Now it’s my favorite movie of all time. I know people who wouldn’t let their kids watch it because they said it was too scary but turned right around and let them watch Walking Dead and all kinds of other movies like it. It’s a shame those children won’t have Legend in their lives.
I am glad to see I am not the only one who loves the Tangerine Dream score. I would love to have all the added scenes of the Director's Cut but with Tangerine Dream's music..
AT LAST!!! My search is done! I have been searching for this instrumental track for years! Without the film's background noise of the 'grunting goblins' and Mia Sara calling out to Tom Cruise every second during the forest love scene! I was so hoping it would be included on the "Legend" album or CD soundtrack, but only a small reprise was heard at the end of 'Loved By the Sun' at the end of the film! This stereo, unedited version is indeed, the stuff of dreams... and...'Legends!' THANK YOU!!!
As a lover of all sorts of music this might be the most beautiful piece of music ever created! The imagery along with the captivating music for me paints a beautiful picture of the love that can exist between a man & woman and the paradise that they both can create together! ❤💏 Such a hauntingly beautiful work of art that helps you escape reality and get lost in a fairytale.
I'm a 3D modeler and I agree with you, special FXs become apparent after a while. But ... remember, investors want to save their pennies so you are left with whatever they believe is "good enough". They want quantity, not quality.
Jerry Goldsmith wrote the original score for the film since he had worked with Ridley Scott on "Alien" in 1979. Jerry was an immensely-talented Academy Award winning composer, but his score for Legend was rejected in the end. To be honest, I believe the Tangerine Dream themes are MUCH more memorable.
@@bloomsforlife8530 not it was terrible but I have the sounds music and dialogue from that theatrical version. Tangerine dream just brought that love out. I believe in that kinda love but with some Black folks to.
ive watched this video so many times. this movie and the TD score make up a huge part of my childhood. Thank you so much for putting this video together. I wish I could make a version of the film that combined video from the director's cut but that used the TD score
There is a absolute way to continue this movie as a sequel. It amazes me that nobody has ever caught on to this, but ok, Darkness was banished, that does not even mean he was killed, but that's not the point. Darkness was in constant communication with "father", a voice that tried to give him advice. Nobody at all knows ANYTHING about this voice, this individual, this entitiy. Who is he? Where is he? Does he even have a name other than "father"? There is alot more to this story than what the movie gave us so many years ago. Ridley Scott could try to delve deeper into this, but i don't know if he ever will due to the amount of films he's been so busy with over 30+ years. I would ask him though to please revisit Legend, i think there is alot more left in the tank than what was left behind so many years ago.
For all those people looking for it, there is a song on spotify by Tangerine Dream called "Beyond the Cottage and the Lake." It is not exactly like this version but very similar. :]
the theme, the whole music, the movie, and silly cruise made this movie good - the girl is simply beautiful - an angel fell from heaven! Memories of years well-worth lived and still counting, jaaj - lol :)
Thank you so much for posting this. I have wanted to know where this could be found since 1985 when the movie first came out and I was disappointed to find it not on the soundtrack. As soon as I read what album you said it was on I grabbed my iPhone and bought the track from iTunes. Thank you again.
In my 53 years on this Earth, I have heard so much music from all different genres, but this, this is simply the most beautiful piece of music I have ever heard ! I admit to being a Tangerine Dream fan since the 70's but I can't understand why so many people in the UK have never heard of them; nearly every time I put the TV on, there's a TD piece of music playing in the background; only this week, a sample of their music could clearly be heard on 'Homes Under The Hammer', yet they never receive the due credit or acknowledgment for their magnificent musical achievements.

To comment it's always difficult because you have to look for true words so a part I could say I've got a quality I was born a person very sensitive but I'm one logical too. When I see something very deep like the movie's pictures joined with a musical sound I expected this give me a kind of feeling that it can pull out from inside me a lot of emotions. So looking this video's pictures and following the music it's like to read right a fable and to feel from live the love passion and the story of characters; particularly if they are actors like a young Tom Cruise and beautiful Mia Sara to lead these plays. 🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🎞️🎞️🎞️🎞️🎞️🎞️🎞️🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬 🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼
I wish the "isolated score" on the DVD really contained all of the music in the film. It's only the Tangerine Dream soundtrack album, and not the film accurate music. There is a ton of score never released.
Exactly. I realize it's not a big deal to most casual fans, but I am a big soundtrack collector and I like them to be complete. Even ambient sound that most would not consider music. That counts to me.
This music as a little boy made me fall in love with my first crush. The power of the emotions was too much to bare for my young heart. I remember I could not eat for months and my parents thought I was sick. I was. I was just love sick.
A few days ago a copy of the Blu Ray arrived from the USA - I live in England - and I have been able to watch the version of Legend with the Tangerine Dream score... and I liked it a great deal! Yep the Tangerine Dream version is the best! I first saw it when I was threeish and fell in love with fantasy and Jack lol!
And the DANCE SCENE!!! This is the best music!!
to date, this is still one of the best fantasy movies ever made.
I agree. I don’t know why Tom Cruise doesn’t hype this movie.
It must have something to do with the Scientologist and the Illuminati.
Yes! And the best fantasy score by tangerine dream! Love this 2020
Yes. Legend and The Dark Crystal were my childhood
Agreed! Legend has always been my favorite movie ( since I was 3 or 4)
I remember watching "Legend" when I was a child. Here I am, now, and I STILL love this movie. The old days were the best, to be honest. :)
If I was rich, I would rebuild this set and have people come stay as a vacation getaway.
