Been listening to Tom since I was 16, I’m now 70 and from that very moment I was hooked. Very few artists consistently match or better the original when performing covers, Tom Rush certainly is one of those few. I live in Australia and unfortunately have never seen him live though I did have a ticket for a gig in Byron Bay where I was living in ‘88 but the evening of the gig my daughter was born and sneaking out was not an option, so Tom if you’re listening, a trip down under would be greatly appreciated some time soon, if not I’ll need to get my wings on and get over your way before one of us leave this realm.👍✌🏾
How amazing to have heard Joni Mitchell do that. And how amazing it was to hear Tom Rush do it in a little club at Syracuse University about a year or two later. What a thing of beauty. Thank you, both. This was my favorite time in the history of music.
That is a strange triple bill. I'm guessing Tom was first. I saw The Blues Project open for Simon & Garfunkel, and artists using only a folk guitar don't do well following really good electric bands. The Blues Project were great that night, and we loved S & G, but a lot of folks walked out on S & G because the BP blew the roof of the auditorium.
I forgot how much I loved the Circle Game LP and this song back in the day, then this showed up randomly in my recommendations. I clicked for the pleasure of hearing Tom sing it again, and was not disappointed. Thank you.
Anyone else have the experience of first hearing Urge for Going played by Dick Summer on WBZ? It was often referred to as "The Tape" as it hadn't been released on record yet. Bruce Langhorne, aka Mr. Tambourine Man, played electric guitar on that. Just found "The Tape" on RUclips...nevermind

Tom Rush’s version of this song has always been my favorite. I loved the opening anecdotes. Thank you. 🥰
My favorite song this time of year. No fire in the stove yet, and so chilly in the log cabin now. Always get the urge.
I like this song so much too! I am the most huge Tom Rush fan!
Lovely playing and singing. Thanks for such a restful and beautiful song!!!
Even a beautiful song has it's costs .
Thanks for posting... you took me back 52 years! Tom and Trevor shared the bill with Bonnie Raitt and Freebo at the Academy of Music in Philly.
Wow! Best version ever!

Tom recorded several songs by future major artists before they did and he made these songs his own and with total respect for the source material.
