  • In this video, I show you how to install a Ring Floodlight Camera. This was a pretty easy install. It is recommended to use a junction box with this floodlight, I chose to switch to a round box because I think it looks cleaner. If you have any questions please leave a comment!

The way you show and explain and how to do things is so clear.

Electrician here: solid video, and nice install but i have few things I’d also recommend!
    1) spend a little bit of extra money and buy some high quality wire nuts. The ones that come in the package suck and can make it difficult to make a good connection (i like the ideal brand blue/orange ones from Lowe’s) if you’re not used to wiring
    2) sometimes you have to strip an extra 1/8 inch of insulation off the wires connected to the camera
    3) a dab of sealant on the threaded plugs is definitely a good idea if this fixture will be exposed to rain
    4) nice job using a connector, most people skip it. A 1/2” UF connector also works great in this situation although it is a little bit overkill.
5)i like to use a high quality exterior rated PAINTABLE sealant around the top 80% of the box to keep rain and bugs out of the house. (Big stretch from Lowe’s is my personal preference)

This video is very much appreciated. I have been debating with myself as to whether to get a Ring security camera or not. This clinched the decision to do it. I was dithering because I wasn't certain I could install it. Thank you. 👍

This was helpful. I have a wiring that comes right out of the wall on my deck. Didn’t know I could buy a round box to install. Now I can put a ring flood light up there!

Had you put the Romex connector on the inside, you could have saved your self some work 🤔 FYI, Ceiling fans DO have hooks to hold the fan while wiring!

There's already wiring at the location? Sweet!
Most the time someone asks me to help install their security cameras there's no power at that location and they have some odd ideas about running power from a nearby internal outlet box. At that point I tell them "I'm out. Go call an electrician and stop being cheap and stupid."

    Hey Matt like your videos!
FYI ceiling fans do have a hanger on them. Somewhere on the bracket that holds the fan to the ceiling box there is a small nub. You can hang the fan on that nub to wire it up.

This is a nicer light / camera than most, and love direct power over battery. On my devices I stayed away from depending solely on connection to the internet. I have 14 cameras and almost half are redundant. I have 60 smart lights and a total of 112 smart home devices. Being disabled I did opt for ease of control via voice and have 10 Alexa's & 6 Google Home. Most of my devices will still work normally when internet is down and the look of a 90 year old home is intact.
BTW the switch cover color is almond, not beige.

Consider updating to modern décor-style light switches and receptacles. I've used Decora switches with built-in LEDs for dark locations, such as my front entryway, the kitchen, both garages, and basement switches.
They are a cool upgrade and make finding a switch in the dark easy. They also give off about the same amount of light as a nightlight, making seeing the area around the switch better too.
Decora-style receptacles come in so many colors and other modern options that no one ever mentions.
Homeowners spend money on making their homes look better, then drop the ball and buy the cheap, traditional switches and receptacles, usually in beige. Likely because they too are unaware of modern alternatives.
Beige, traditional ones are overused and boring. These modern Decora-style options make the old-fashioned or traditional switches and receptacles look ancient.
They are beige if you like them, or white. But metal or plastic with or without screwless faceplates.
Why use beige, when you can get shades like black, light, and dark gray? Colors like red, blue, and green. Or the metal look with copper, brushed nickel, and stainless steel-so many choices to match your room design or add a modern accent.
It is one of the most modern or futuristic updates you can add-You already have them if you have GFCI or AFCI.
But did you know they also come with various arrangements and charging levels for built-in USB and micro USB ports?
I installed a four-port all-USB receptacle next to our refrigerator where we recharge most of our devices.
Some of the décor-style receptacles have built-in LED or night light options for children's bedrooms and hallways.
I don't work for any manufacturer of these switches and receptacles. But no one told me they even existed.
One day I asked myself why light switches are the same as in 1962 for 3 prongs and earlier for switches. It is the 2000s and nothing has changed.
So I searched the jungle website for futuristic and modern light switches.
The options are so many, that I wondered why no home improvement shows or RUclips videos ever covered them.
Who knows maybe by now, someone has?

Looks like a very nice light/camera. The App seems very user friendly. Not all that difficult to install for someone with a little bit of electrical knowledge. Thanks for sharing. I have a motion light, out front for the driveway/front door, no cameral on it.
Your yard looks very pretty, seems to be good sized.

Put a piece of tyvek tape on the box where it meets, you won't see it. Also, buy the waterproof version of the romex connector with the rubber grommet.

Please Please Please, do not use Ring. First read their privacy policy, it'll make you think twice. Second, the qaulity is aweful, that white grill on the bottom within a year will rust. Look at local recording options, it will not only save you on a monthly fee for the features but also give you better quality and lastly any camera on wifi is easy to jam if someone wants to break into your home and block the recording.
Reolink is an option I recently switched to and its is a million times better in every aspect to Ring, Nest, Eufy, Wyze, etc.
