The QUEEN OF ROCK STILL REIGNING
This was the second video played on MTV....👍,,,,
Any know the first one..
Video killed the radio star....
@@DonCatherman Video Killed the Radio Star by The Buggles
@@pinastigas76 but this is the first video played on MTV with guitars ... 😁
1st ROck video on MTV
@@hectoralfaro-rivera7572 Also the first one with drums and a bass.
41 years ago today, this aired as the second video ever played on MTV...Cheers, Pat & Neil! ❤🎶
I recall that. I was 14 years old, my friends and I were excited to see MTV so we had the TV on waiting for it. We live in mountain time zone and we got the time wrong so we had to watch an hour of static but MTV finally came on.
I was kind of disappointed when Video Killed The Radio Star was the first song but then this blew my doors off. I was already a Pat Benatar fan and this video made my jaw drop
@@shananagans5 Yeah, but that kinda had to the the first song, though, right? Although VH's Light Up The Sky would've been apropos as well.
I'm 63 and still rocking this song.
@@mh5259 Very true. I didn't expect the first song on MTV to be something I had never heard before and, to be totally honest, I never really liked that song. Video Killed The Radio Star was a good first song. The title was perfect but the song itself never resonated with me.
Like singing Happy Birthday. It's appropriate but you aren't really going to jam out to it. lol
@@shananagans5 what channel number was it?
Pat was the hottest hottie of the 80’s, and she and Neil and the band rocked!
Today's "music" and "performer's" have NO CLUE!!
I think it's fair to say you don't have a clue.
@@CrazyAboutVinylRecords Why?
Modern artists need to take notes. This is a real singer, artist, musicians and songwriters.
The guitar solo is epic. A crying bit of notes that charge you up... very hard rock yet timeless for FM radio...
This band kicked total arse in 1980 & 1981. Pat, Neil & Myron were so awesome back in the day.
Put her in the Hall Of Fame!
Myron is one helluva drummer!
Screw the hall of fame
Indeed!!!
@Hammerschlägen M do agree with you sir ☝️
She will be, in 2020👍
Pat is a legend. She is a true Rockstar.
None better.
Ann Wilson of Heart may be in second place, but she will never be #1.
Totally. True rockstar and total hottie!!
She was Reckless.
She was " Pretty".
But today. It's about Taylor Momsen.
Yeah I said that
If I build a Time Machine, you guys want to go back to the 80's with me? Pat was the epitome of class, power and talent. There will never be anyone like her, and she & Spyder belong in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!
Let's roll!😎😎🎉🎉👍👍
Rhett H I just got back from the 80,s It was freakin awesome.
With a briefcase full of cash.
Owen Lee Green Hey who told you.?
1970s and 1980s were the best decades. After that, it all went downhill.
THIS IS REAL ROCK NOT COMERCIAL HITS
Neil Giraldo is an underrated guitarist, which is a crime. The guy is amazing.
+Wolf Heart They're currently on tour together. :-)
Yes! Absolutely awesome. :)
+Wolf Heart one of the best my friend and it is crime !!!!!!
+Wolf Soul There's a LOT of underrated guitarists out there.
+fredfukkinbear kikkinnigass Hell, man. I know that. Never said there weren't a lot of underrated guitarists out there.
this will be a spice & sugar moment 💗😉
Quite possibly the greatest female vocalist in the history of Rock and Roll. Nope, changed my mind. Pat Benatar IS the greatest female vocalist in the history of Rock and Roll. Hands down.
Props to Pat, but I must keep preaching, just listen to Wendy O Williams. If she'd lived longer, public school transportation would have never been the same.
Hell Yes!
One of the hardest, bad ass rock songs to blow open The 80's! And the baddest ass rock star, Pat Benatar! I was there, 08/1/1981 watching MTV and was stunned. Still am. Rock and Roll.
The very first video to ever broadcast on MTV was *Video Killed The Radio Star* by the Buggles. This was the second one....which says a lot about her because she was the FIRST female and the first solo artist to make it on MTV
Pat Benatar was her and her band. she aint no solo artist....
+Priscilla Crow Be careful what you say because the Madonna nuts will attack. They are under the impression that she originated everything. Even today Pat would plow over her in raw live energy.
+Priscilla Crow And Neil was the first guitarist.
I remember becaused I watched it too..I'm 56 now and i listen to all the new stuff like future's F*ck Commas but listening to Pat brings back probably the funnest time of my life..glad she's still doing well.
This video came out months before MTV though. It was the 2nd to be shown on MTV though but wasn't made specifically to be on that channel.
This recording sounds just as fresh and exciting now as it did back in the early 80s. What a talented group of musicians. And when it comes to powerful rock vocals, Pat Benetar was in a class of her own.
Neil... Underrated guitarist..!
Sugar 🤍 and Spice 🖤
So sad her sister's going home to early:((
Her singing her heart out while defiantly rocking that short cut back in the day was 🔥
Saw her last night... her 68-year-old chops are in FINE form! The lady can SING!!!!
My husband met Pat Benatar by accident a few years ago working at a casino. He was a barback and brought a bunch of bottled water to her trailer. Said she's so nice and down to earth!!
Did he meet Neil Giraldo as well?
They’re both fantastic human beings.
When MTV was introduced to America back in AUGUST 1981 this kick A** song was literally the 2nd video to come on the air introduced everyone to the one and only "PAT BENATAR" who was recently FINALLY inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...👏👏👏
do you recall the FIRST mtv video?
Video Killed The Radio Star by Buggles 2 great guys in that group that helped many of Artist if im correct
God she was gorgeous. And a voice to match.
This drummer is hugely underrated!
myron grombacher
venomagent76 Happens. Happens. No. Hi. Yes. Goodness. Goodness. Bye
I always thought so too!!!
The red devil
Myron's a maniac on the kit. Simple beats, yet oh so effective!
Only Pat Benatar can pull off that cat eye beauty…best song her and hubby ever did…Dave and Ray HAVE to be proud…
Pat Benatar belongs in the rock and roll hall of fame without a doubt
Can you believe the go go's are in there and Pat Benatar isn't, neither is Boston for that matter, ridiculous
I thought she was?? That is a travesty! The Go-Go's over Pat? Oh that is ridiculous!
@@jackasswabbit1625 Forget the GoGos. I'm more bothered with the fact that Tupac, N.W.A. and Public Enemy are in the 'Rock n Roll' Hall of Fame while Pat is still on the sideline. She and her band should have been top of the list to be inducted their first year of eligibility which by the rules would have been 25 years after releasing their first album in 1979. That means she should have been in the Hall back in 2004.
@@dahoss5405 All those rap acts you mentioned (with the possible exception of Tupac Shakur) belong in the RnR Hall on musical merit alone. You may have a problem accepting hip hop as part of the heritage of rock and roll, but that's an issue that's better left to musicologists and art critics. Madonna, however, I've always seen as the person who inherited the title of "sexiest woman in pop music" from Pat Benatar. Benatar, of course, made better music, has a better voice and was a better performer. Based on that criteria, and not cultural impact, she should be in the Rock Hall instead of Madonna. Or the GoGos.
Thoroughly Agree!
She looks as good now as she did then, and she lives in Hawaii, went past her House on a Tour and she graciously stepped into the Tour Bus and shook hands and signed autographs and even took pictures. A VERY classy lady!
Which island, Maui?
Yes! Fame and fortune never changed her! The greatest singer that ever was.
@Hammerschlägen M C'mon think of it who else has ever had so many good songs as an individual artist as Patricia Andrzejewski Benatar Giraldo?
@Hammerschlägen M Christina- Bimbo Fluff! Whitney-Waaay Overrated! Britney-Downfall of The Music Industry! Lady Gaga- Couple of Mediocre Hits! Mariah- Colossal Waste of Air! Beyonce-Major Zero! Jennifer Lopez- One Mediocre Song! Tina-Ugly and Annoying! How about Ann Wilson, Debbie Harry, Cyndi Lauper as well as Agnetha & Frida. Now that's talent!
@Hammerschlägen M Well said meine freund!
That outro...still gives me chills 40 yrs later...incredible guitar and drums by that little monster drummer Myron G.
Spine tingling. " I said go away, and leave me alone, I can't stand you no more"
My high school back in 1981 had three young teenage Ladies who emulated the Pat Benatar look. Charlene Ballou had the dress style and hair, Tracy Conn had the Physique, Facial Features and Attitude but Sharon Bensing had the ENTIRE AND COMPLETE PACKAGE and she was my best friend. YOUZAA!
Pat looked, and sang amazingly, in this video... Her future husband Neil Geraldo, standing in the back, with the blue Stratocaster, playing the living hell out of it. One of the most underrated guitar players in rock. Neil should get inducted into the RRHOF too. One of the greatest studio axe men ever to pick up a six string.
Back in the day we never realized how these softer bands really rocked.
The vocals, guitar work, badass
GODDESS OF ROCK AND ROLL - HAPPY ANNIVERSARY on 40+ years! August 1, 1981 - this video made me fall in love with you.....and all these years later....still a fan and have seen you many times in concert - you and Ann Wilson of HEART - amazing to this day!
I ALSO FELL IN LOVE W PAT.🥰
I saw her in 1983 in L A Colosseum .Great show!!!! A lot of the girls were walking around dressed like Pat !!! Those were the great days of Rock and Roll!!!
When you and your crowd are aged 14-16. This performance left a such lasting impressionable memory of a true Rock Goddess. What a time to enjoy!
WHEN!!!!!
This video should have more views it was one of the first videos on MTV it helped make MTV's bones no one listens to good music anymore
Pretty Boy Floyd Yes .. this video is pure awesomeness.
As a kid growing up and watching this video, I couldn't take my eyes of her. Now that I'm older, I realize just how heavy this music is. Heavy and funky. And still I can't take my eyes off of her.
lol
Her husband is the most underrated guitarist in the world...love to here him play...
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - open your eyes and ears - this woman belongs there. Come on already!!!!!!
EVERYONE IN THIS BAND KILLED IT. THANK YOU
The best female rock singer of all time!!!
You may be right.

Yeah 😂 you could say that AGAIN
How is this even a “maybe”? She is the greatest female rocker ever.
Pat"s vocals overshadow all the other princess's , she's a true rocker with a prowess ala Ann Wilson
Today is 8/1/20, 39 yrs since MTV’s debut. This song was the second video they played. Rock on Pat and Neil!
This was another one of those "yep!, disco's over" moments at the time.
Pat, if you see this posting, You are one of the all time greatest voices and talents my generation was blessed with, and many thanks to you beyond my ability to measure my gratitude, for your songs touched my life and you are dearly loved by me. Sincerely!
AGREED SHE'S AWESOME
Joseph Locantore Glad you think so! : )
Ditto.
Think Pat is watching herself on RUclips?........?
The chorus of this song has one of the greatest rock shuffle drum patterns ever. Myron is a genius and he plays with so much heart
Second video played on MTV when it launched. When many others weren't sure about embracing music videos, Pat was trailblazing.
She's just been nominated to go in! She belongs in there.
lacey ferryman along with some loser rappers.
The first ever woman artist on MTV too! Great to see Pat and her hubby Neil Giraldo STILL together all these years later! Can't wait to see them on tour! :-)
This pat is a strong woman. She stayed with her husband for many years, more than other famous people. I respect that. That is a rare thing these days.
Dennis Benatar might disagree with you
This was the 2nd video ever played on MTV when it debuted in 1981.
The first was "Video Killed the Radio Star."
woah
Thats cool. Oh, the good old days when MTv was all about the Music before Tv. Now it hardly has any Music and is all Tv. Such a shame.
I remember in 1991 when MTV re-broadcast the first hour of MTV for the tenth anniversary, and I learned this about the second video. The first played was always the trivia answer that was commonly known. My MTV watching started in 1982 or 1983.
Gary D Linger at least it had Beavis and Butthead
Who’s still rock in’ out to Pat Benatar in 2020? ✌️❤️🎶
The best, most evoking, purposeful and powerful "Yeah"'s in Rock n Roll history
Back when women in music rocked. We had the best.
In the late 70s, early 80s, Pat & Co. dominated the airwaves, letting know without a doubt what raw talent was. Besides Donna Summer, Pat's vocals defined our existence as fans of what was actually music.
Benatar Summer and Harry: my favorite singers!!!
One of my favorite Pat Benatar songs!❤
It's a cover actually.
Mine too
I like Pat Benatar!
Niel is a very overlooked guitarist, listen to any Pat Benatar song and listen for the guitar solo. Always bad ass
This was the second video played on MTV. Neil Giraldo was the very first guitarist to play on MTV.
I WAS THERE....
No it was MEN AT WORK ! Dummy!
@@masterpig6481 You were there??
The first was Video killed the Radio Star.
We know...
PB is a true Hall of Famer.
they must put Pat Benatar on the rock and roll hall of fame she was always an outstand performer please
Pat Benatar was the first solo female artist ever on MTV hit the airwaves back in 1981
SUGAR__________&__________SPICE
She's great, but her band is phenomenal
Great song. One of the hardest rocking women of the eighties. Superior vocals. Spider is positively nasty on lead guitar. Great band, great couple. Pat is legend.
Pat Benatar kicks ass. 😎
Neil Geraldo, one of my childhood guitar heroes , is truly one of the unsung guitar heroes of the error - Neil Geraldo is crafty, melodic and balanced, and plays with power, one true bad ass of the hybrid guitar era…. known as the 80s
Great cover version. Didn't even know it was a cover until I bought *The Best Of The Rascals* on CD in 1996.
I vividly remember when this first aired on MTV back in 1981. 🔥🔥🔥🔥 I was in 8th grade and soon had her posters all over my bedroom wall. 😎🤘🏽
'' I say , go away and leave me alone ! I can`t stand you no more!! '' Bad ass , Pat !
The solo in this is awesome
4'9" and a three-octave voice! Beyonce will never measure up.
4 octave voice.
You may already know this, but Ms. Pat originally trained professionally for the Opera!!
No need to compare they don't even do the same kind of music.
lol she's a few inches taller than that. she's 5'0
I loved 🥰 Pat Benatar!
I was a teen in the late 1970/Early 1980s loving Pat Benatar to death from the hood!
It’s so cool that Pat and Neil are STILL married. I was so sad a couple yrs ago, to leant that Toni Tennille and Daryl Dragon were getting divorced after decades of marriage 😢, but Pat and Neil 🙌 ❤️
Pat benatar...great music,now I know I'm old
How is it that Pat is not in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame? Has there ever been a better female vocalist in the rock genre?
she has yet to even be nominated. such a shame.
David Buning , You know that shit is political seeing as how there are so many in the R&R HoF who have virtually nothing to do with rock and roll.
I wholeheartedly agree Merl Ball.
Of course she’s not in. They’re too busy trying to put in non-rock artists in like Madonna or ABBA.
I agree
Pat's vocals always sound incredible
One year from today, on the 40th Anniversary , all 5 of the original VJ's need to be inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame
The Second Ever Music To Premier On MTV August 1st 1981. I Love This Song and This Has Such Great Memories! Pat Benatar Is Superbly a Brilliant Lady Of Rock and Roll! Yes She Deserves The Recognition Of Being In The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
Between her voice and his guitar, they got it all!
Pat Benatar recorded "You Better Run" for her second album, Crimes of Passion (1980). On August 1, 1981, the music video for the song was the second video ever broadcast on MTV:
We never imagined 40 years would pass so fast 😅
This video alone gets u in the HOF. It's historic.
The Queen of Rock and Roll has spoken. 🤘🏻
That short, harmonic little 'Git solo...is so god damn perfect...it astounds!
Pat kickin ass and takin names !!!!
later!!!👍
Not the original but the definitive version of the song.
Overlooked song. Kicks out better than her popular songs
Harry Mack approves this track 🐐 🔥
Pat Benatar was the real deal. I had forgotten just how many great songs they had, and what an amazing singer she was. I was into harder rock, and heavy metal, but I liked her and respected that hard rock edge she and her band had.
In the history of MTV, this was the 2nd video they ever played!
Congratulations Pat and company for being (finally) voted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!
So close to being first. To be fair, the Buggles needed that publicity more though.
@@instrumentsofdestruction5737 , plus, I think that MTV started with that song to make the point of what they hoped to do with their new platform. And, that was to be the new way to introduce and to also anoint new music stars via video!
@@SonofDavid0814 I think you're right. It does makes sense.
Pat Benatar belongs in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
2:21 pat is so badass......then neil comes in with a badass solo
According to an interview of her, THIS is the second video to ever air on MTV.
so the first female singer
yup. seen it. 81... great yr of music
it was. i remember
Really? So this played after Video Killed The Radio Star???
Yes, it did. And it also made Neil Giraldo the first guitarist to ever appear on MTV.
Pat's haircut and style is timeless, she would still look amazing in 2022.
Finally nominated to the hall of fame! Way overdue!
#2 song played on MTV when it first aired.
That lead at the end TASTEY so much feeling Neil is so underrated love that cat
they were a good band--the guitarist knows how to play rock n' roll better than most i've heard.
Quelle que soit l'année où tu réécoutes ce titre,tu te rends compte de sa puissance qui n'a pas pris une ride.L' attaque du solo est terrible.
"What is a woman?" Answer: Pat Benatar
She has always been my ultimate idol! Always presents herself bold and fierce when singing all her songs. And that's no act! Her expressions prove her strength. Plus there's not one song of hers that's not strong reinforcement & motivation to handle so many battles in life like a leader!!!
Plus not to mention still stunning!!!
...and boy can she rock a miniskirt / tight leather + stiletto heels combo!
