thank u for the video.. i'm making pasteles for new years eve for the 1st time. can i make the pork one day in advance or does it have to be the same day?
Hi again, I’m going to make the pasteles the way you did them in your other video. Since this one was linked for it, the 3lbs of pork is enough for the 3 dozen pasteles?
Are you still making new videos? I forgot about your channel as I haven t gotten any reminders in probably a year! I looked for Rum cake and found your channel! Yes, I am subscribed...
Amazing your recipe! Tremendo orgullo puertorriqueño! Here is my question, como puedo hacer los pasteles con la masa de yuca, a mi esposo le encantan mas que los de masa, yo personalmente degusto de los dos. Gracias!
I have a question , by any chance do you have a recipe for a chicken version? My self personally I love the pork ones but my family during the holidays normally ask for chicken one too. Hopefully I will make these for my first Christmas hosting. Thanks
just wondering. with all the beautiful sofrito, fresh cilantro, etc. why use Sazon which is basically MSG. All those beautiful fresh condiments should be enough, no?
We make that in Hawaii called exactly what you said. Pastele stew. It’s a Hawaii thing. Not authentic to Puerto Rico. You make the stew meat the same way as she makes this meat. You add more water to cover the meat. And plenty oregano and plenty cumin. Steam your green bananas with peel on till it looks greenish brown. Usually about 15 minutes. When the meat is almost done you add your cut up bananas and let it cook about 15 more minutes with the meat. Add your olives at the same time. And that’s it!
1/14/24: UPDATE 3 years later! Hola Ida. My last message dated 1/15/21 indicated that I was going to make Pasteles with chicken to cook healthier, and I did try it, but NO WAY! Pasteles made with any other meat except pork just doesn't work. It HAS to be made with pork to get that authentic Puerto Rican sabor. The Pasteles didn't go to waste, but my family and I took a good while to finish them 'cause they weren't as good. Ugh! And besides, if my mom were still here when I attempted to make them, she would have talked me out of doing it that way 'cause that's not how she taught me to make them. She was old school from Ponce/Brooklyn. Anyway, I thought I'd share this with you. Happy New Year! 😊
Why not use the juice from the meat for the pasteles? I’m too tempted !! I’m getting my ingredients today. I’m Cuban but I love pasteles since the 80’s!

@@sweetsandbeyond it's pork stew with banana dumplings. Same ingredients as pork pastele but in stew form so it's easier and serve on rice.
We make that in Hawaii called exactly what you said. Pastele stew. It’s a Hawaii thing. Not authentic to Puerto Rico. You make the stew meat the same way as she makes this meat. You add more water to cover the meat. And plenty oregano and plenty cumin.
