I just want to say that I am Puertorican but I had never cooked and I went to your channel and I have been using your videos to teach me for months. My food has been amazing and my husband is loving it. I'm so happy and I have YOU to thank. I never get the chance to comment because I'm always busy following the video while cooking but I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you. You are great and you know what works! I've done the Tembleque, arroz con gandules, arroz con pollo, Sofrito, and so many other foods through your videos. Thank you so much!

adribaby149 I was on the same boat before watching her videos my husband loves it too I sometimes add pickled jalapeños, I know it sounds weird but I put it to add a little more something

All part of cooking! You take the base recipe and make it "your own".. which you did by adding the pickled jalapenos.

The first time I tried this meal was in a domestic violence shelter and the cook was on vacation so The Advocates had cooked and one of the Advocates was an older Puerto Rican woman who made this and I've been looking for this this ever since. I never knew what it was called I just knew that it was delicious. Now that I finally have the recipe I've made it several times and my family loves it! And I'm not Hispanic I'm actually African-American LOL

Ida, thank you so much for teaching me how to cook my culture food. My mother and father are both Puerto Rican and passed away when I was 23. I was an abuse child and my mother would always cook before she left for work, so when my brother & I got home our food was already made. I made this while following your video except we had store bought Sofrito in the fridge so I used that and chicken drumsticks. I want to thank you for posting this video because like you said "the end result was awesome". It tasted exactly how my mother used to make it when I was growing up. How I dearly miss her and her gift for cooking Boricua meals. My rice also came out perfect. Next time I will use your guide to make homemade Sofrito. My mother would not have done it any other way, so why should I. Again, thank you for posting this wonderful recipe and bringing back a part of my life that I've forgotten a long time ago. God Bless You.

Thank you for your recipe! Everytime I ask my mother for her recipe it's always "some of this" or "a little of that" hahah my husband and I just devoured it and he hates rice!!!

Thank you sooo much for walking me through this recipe. My daughter is half Puerto Rican, her Dad (my ex husband)and I split up when she was very young. I myself am Mexican. When I was still with her father, it was and still is very important that I learned how to, not only intre him to homemade Mexican cuisine, but to be able to make his favorite dishes as well. So his Mother was nice enough to teach me several dishes, and some close friends, too. The one thing I was showed how to make, but never attempted was this recipe. Besides a few differences, your recipe was the same. So thanks to you, I was able to recall her recipe and follow along with yours,(except where you added water, I used her 1/2 a beer and the same amount of grape juice) and my daughter could enjoy another part of her heritage’s cuisine. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

    Don't worry...It doesn't happen for me either...yet I still get great rice...
Nunca lo he podido lograr que la cuchara quede paraíta en el arroz. Sin embargo siempre me sale muy bien el arroz...(Modestia aparte)
