Years ago when I was in PR and I didn’t have an oven I had a Newave Oven. Or thanksgiving I would cut up a whole turkey and roast the wings, thighs. And drum sticks. Then I would take the turkey breast and prepare the meat just as you did the pork here. But instead of making pasteles I would make empanadas with it. It was amazing and my kids still ask for it today even though I have an oven. I watched this video because since we moved to PA I haven’t made them and wanted to brush up on my skills. I am going to try your method this year and kick it up a bit. I can’t wait. Thank you and Happy holidays.❤
The best filling ever!!!! The freakin rican pasteles are amazing! Seriously after tasting his pasteles I don't want to eat anyone elses. Not even mami's pasteles if she reads this me Mata pero no one has his sazon so I find myself looking for that flavor. Omg and your Sofrito is the best!! I hope in the future I can see your Sofrito in the supermarket 😁..... Unfortunately it was too late for me to order pasteles because it was sold out😔 so I had to make them myself using Freakin Rican recipe and it was soooo good!! I am from Hawaii and amazingly delicious Pastele was introduced there in 1900 by Puerto Ricans that came to Hawaii to work in plantations..as well as Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese and Filipinos.. All these cultures come together in Hawaii's unique dishes. But Pasteles...are a prized dish due to all the hard work that goes into making them. BAIT AND SWITCH! I spent a total of $299.34. Part of my order contained 24 pork pasteles. The meat filling was undercooked, rubbery, inedible salt pork fat. No ham...no pernil. I emailed Derick and corresponded with Dayana Disla (Executive Assistance). I sent her 8 pictures of dissected pasteles which clearly shows the piles of pure rubbery fat. Her excuse was... "Yes, sometimes the staff is in production mode and may overlook a couple with less meat." She went on to say she will not provide a refund. I was baited by the savory pork filled pasteles that Derick prepares on his youtube channel and it is clearly not what I received. I will never purchase again and I will inform other's of my terrible experience.
Rhonda, I'm sorry you were not satisfied. The pasteles I show us making is what we are prepping for the restaurant and to ship. We do not bait and switch. We do not provide refunds on perishable items.

I contacted my bank to reverse the charges and somebody from your end recharged me for the order. I once again reversed the charges with my bank. If you reverse the $185.34 charges again, my next step is small claims court and YOU could come to California and talk to the Judge and try to justify the pictures that I will present of the inedible garbage that you sent me and charged me $185.34 for. I demand a refund Derrick of $185.34. If I don't succeed with small Claims court Derrick, I will follow through by hiring a pro bono attorney and YOU could hire an attorney to defend your case. I'm not playing Derrick.... I was sold inedible garbage crap and I demand a refund.
