  • Get ready for a trip back to the Saturday night concerts that changed a lot of lives. I was a 21 year cameraguy with big dreams of showing these concerts to the world (still am one after all these years if you need some corporate video done :) Shooting this band in particular was a dream come true for young me since most Christian music at the time didn't... rock. Well world, here you go and God Bless you!.

Thank you for sharing this. In 1982 I was a mess. Broken dysfunctional family, addicted to drugs. I had just hitch hiked across the USA (scared, broke). I remember saying to God that I could not relate to church music at all. A week later I was sitting in front of this band. It was as if God was saying okay, here then. I surrendered my heart to Christ right then and there. Christian rock was deeply frowned upon back then so it was struggle for Christian bands in the beginning. Resurrection band, thank you for your selflessness, courage and love.

@@hanstokke9950 Not really. Stryper was really influenced by Black Sabbath, Van Halen, Thin Lizzy, Scorpions ect. There were bands singing about eternal issues long before Rez. The early Uriah Heep Hensley/Byron era. Hensley has always been a believer. He got caught up in the success aspect. There are believers and unbelievers that record Music. Some of the Godliest songs come from unbelievers, when they were "searching". Its hard to put a style of music in a box, or genre. Unfortunately its hasn't been in his music, since the mid 1990's Last Temptation/Brutal planet. Then you have Blackie Lawless, who explicitly puts the Gospel in his music, like "Golgotha" and "Babylon". He re-recorded the Crimson Idol. Removed the profanity. Some of the Godliest stuff came from Nikki Six and SIX AM. The Heroin diaries and "This is going to hurt" Christ is working in many hearts, through music of all kinds. dygertron entertainment. I did get to see them live in a stadium setting about 6 years after this or so. Then I got to meet Glen Kaiser when I finally stopped touring with my own band in 2008 and had finally given my life wholly and complete to Jesus my Savior. I never expected to meet the guy at a little outreach church in Calgary, Ab, Canada. But there he was. He said "I'm just a man serving Christ" which I knew of course. LOL. The 40 or so people who were there didn't even know who he was musically. But to me he is a treasure. Even if just a man saved like I am.

Small anecdote: I lived in a small town in the first half of the 80s and we had this one coffee house in town where two of my friends and myself hang out Friday evenings at age 22, 23. And the owner was always gracious to play the music we brought on our cassette tapes that we recorded at home with all kind of music. One of those songs that passed many times was the live version of "Can't stop loving' you" from Live Bootleg. Dozens of none believers listening to that song and Glen's rap following it, so many times haha, that was amazing! It brought great conversations with people asking about it and even new friends.
This band's music is inseparable connected with my own early years as a believer. "The chair" is the highlight in this concert for me. Those lyrics...

Thank you Kevin Clark, for not only capturing all of this, but for sharing it with the world. Rez was a HUGE part of my resurrection back in the early 80's. Would have loved to been at this concert.

I sure would like to find more vids from back in the day, and store them on a hard drive, in hopes of being able to enjoy them for many more years. Not many out there that were produced as well as this one.

Thank you for posting your work! Love this, real Christian rock of variety of styles, folk to metal, and love Rez! I grew up as a teen of the 80s, went to Cstone and was in the Chicago Christian rock scene. Loved it!
Unfortunately, have to look for Christian rock that rocks nowadays, but is out there.

Surely is all in God's timing also. And, love MS/Stryper saw them in Oct at Indy with Petra & Whitecross, saw them back in the day, and they're better than ever now! :) Saw Glenn at Audiofeed as well.
Maybe today's "worship sound" is a repeat of the original Jesus Music, time for a new sound to blast the streaming-airwaves. Be Blessed!

Kevin, I'm still getting there. I just went through your video so I could notate what songs were played. This is a very VALUABLE document of one of the world's most famous Christian bands. I collect live music and I have over 2000 live recordings, and of course basically all of it is secular rock but then there is the Rez Band, Glenn Kaiser Band and music that doesn't sing about this world. It's fantastic that musicians dedicate themselves to this kind of music. Why can't we have more bands like Rez and Petra? It seems Glenn is still lost in his own little genre. True, there are many Christian bands now but I don't know of any of them. Anyway, this early concert is a HOLY GRAIL for lovers of Rez and early Christian Rock. You captured something really special. Now if we could only see the Rez band playing outside in front of the Jesus School Bus they traveled in. That would be so very cool. And I see someone uploaded the audio of a very early Rez concert here on RUclips. I think that audio was even earlier than this. Do you know that I have added the Resurrection Band, Glenn Kaiser and the Glenn Kaiser Band to db.etree.org's database of LIVE MUSIC. Glenn and Rez deserved to be REMEMBERED and REPRESENTED with DOCUMENTS like this live show. I list what I have been able to find here on RUclips on that website so people will know it exists. I don't know of any Christian Rock live music traders but there is one website that I know of where you can download live Christian Concerts. That website is Christian Concert Archive christianconcertarchive.com/index/ I got some Glenn Kaiser Band stuff from there and some other stuff. Too bad Christians didn't smuggle tape recorders into Rez concerts. Who knew Rez would hold up so well over time. I just sent Glenn's Ripley County Blues and GKB's Winter Sun to my cousin. I think those albums are that good. I have Amazon.com deliver the cds to his house. He's a Christian, not in the church too much now, and neither am I, but this music reaches me on so many levels. Anyway, thanks again and I am studying up on this show. I'm taking it in bits when I have time. Sadly though I thought Military Man was also performed at this show but I guess it wasn't.

11:00 APARTHEID IN 1981??!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? BACK THEN, THIS BAND WAS PUNK ROCK FOR STANDING UP LIKE THAT!!! I'm an openly gay man, so the "Born Again" scene was never anything I wanted to be a part of. But almost 40 years later, I've NEVER forgotten this band. I'm an old school punk rock guy from Cypress (O.C.) and was given the album "Colours" by a friend of mine in high school around 1982 (?). I remember being totally impressed with the music and content on the record. There was a song on there called "American Dream" that blew me away. We saw them at this same place sometime around '81 or '82. Too funny. Back then, we had a hard time finding Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa because it was "way out in the boonies" and was surrounded by acres of orange groves... Not like that there anymore.😃 Anyways, I remember this band did not disappoint. Do believe I'll get herbalized and watch this show tonight. Chuck Smith was a cool dude. He reminded me of my hippie surfer brothers and their friends. Very easy going and seemed really sincere. thanks for posting ! 😎✌
