I love all their music, but my all time favorite is Horrendous Disc. That music still thrills me. I thought it began putting them ahead of their time, musically.
The first DA concert I attended in the 80s, they were late getting to the show. No time to do a soundcheck when they finally arrived, so they just turned everything up. My ears are still ringing to this day.....

Tim Chandler joined September 4, 1981. When they performed in St. Louis April 30, 1982 (as captured on the Live Bootleg album) they had added Doppleganger material to their set. They are playing their instruments that were stolen in early 1982. So this show is earlier than that. The D.A. website lists a show in Naperville, IL (Chicago suburb) on September 11, 1981. It shows the identical setlist that is presented here. If this is that show, then this is only Tim's fourth concert with the band.
I first saw Daniel Amos in Disney Land at Contempo '80. Resurrection Band, Randy Stonehill, and these guys made this night at Disney Land a memorable night for me and my buddies. After this night we became huge D.A. fans. They even used our sound equipment when they did a concert in Dinuba Ca. back in '85. Best Christian band ever!
I thank God for DA, 77s, Adam Again, really any band that chose that sacrificed the opportunity for mass popularity and rebel against the horrible state of mediocrity that was the "Christian" music industry in those days and chose to embrace the cutting edge of creativity. A lot of haters, I can hardly believe people still think like this, think that Da started playing the devil's music when they left country music in the 70s. I think the opposite is true.
Everyone knows the Devil prefers Southern Gospel/Country Gospel. He can fool you into thinking you can sing it on stage and live like him the rest of the week.
This is one my favorite bands of all time. They were excellent musicians and had a living miracle of a song writer in Terry Taylor. This was the beginning of the Alarma Chronicles and they only got better with each release, Got completely hooked with Doppelganger, the second release in the series. Jerry Chamberlain blazed on guitar and you won't find many drummers better that Ed McTaggart.
this dana w dude/dudette makes me laugh. DA have always been a huge fav band of mine. i was looking for something different in christian music back in the mid 80's and these guys grabbed my attention straight up. answered a lot of cryptic questions in my head. Over the last 10 - 20 years from moving houses etc i had misplaced all my DA albums but thankfully i've been able to get them on itunes. fearful symmetry and darn floor/big bite are among my top 10 favs of all time Bye for now
Was at this show in the western suburbs of Chicago (Elmhurst, I believe). Promoted by Paul Emery at Harvest Productions. I was the Midwest Marketing Director for Benson Records, which handled distribution for Alarma! Records. Took the DA boys all around Chicago for several days of interviews and appearances. 'Twas a fun gig.
Thanks, just got my email of DA touring this summer and they are coming to Middle TN. Truly a band blessed by God Even if they are not as popular as other Christian bands.
I always loved this band, and Terry Taylor's voice, with this band having a very unique sound, and being the real deal when it came down to their Christian values. DA rocks!
Dang I wish I could've been there to see this live... I was probably only 2 or 3 years old at this time though, but a very special musical memory from my youth... thanks for sharing this!!!!
Saw these guys with Randy Stonehill at Va tech right around the time they released this album, Alarma. Always thought of them as a the Eagles of Christian music. They kept me sane in an overwhelming world when little else would. I wish there more like them today.
I saw Daniel Amos when Doppelganger was released. They did a lot of the stuff they played in this concert as well, and they had mannequins all over the stage. Unique and fun.
I got hear them and Randy Stonehill at Bethel College in the Twin Cities in 1979. It was great because of the music and my friend Mary Foat who enjoyed the concert.
Thanks for posting this! DA is an all-time fave of mine, so I appreciate finding this on You Tube! I finally got to see them at Cornerstone this year (2011) for the first time!
I have a few albums by these guys. Always thought they were a talented and under appreciated band, but they appealed to my warped sense of humour. Met them after a gig once. Nice lads.
Not sure what month Tim Chandler replaced Marty Diekmeyer. When I saw them in July, 1982, they were playing with borrowed instruments since theirs had been stolen earlier that year (Terry was playing a Telecaster). They were also doing Dopleganger material, which they are not doing here. So it must have been relatively early 1982.
There are so many things we use today that are not spoken of in scripture. Cars, cell phones, the internet, the fridge. Are those things regarded as evil? The Amish might say so, but most folk would not. So to assign wickedness to something or someone that is not in blatant violation of the Word, and that is very plain to see in most cases, is a violation of God's Word in itself. Having been in worship leading ministry for over thirty years in different churches, infighting over this question has raged since the beginning. To become angry over this is to lose focus on the importance of the sovereignty of God. I don't believe he was caught unaware of todays music. Be it good or bad in the musical sense. Some use their music for blatantly evil promotion. These Christian bands hardly fall into the category of Black Sabbath, or bands of that type. If you feel God says don't listen, then don't. It is no more difficult than that.
YES! Jesus was also quoted as saying, "If they are not against us, they are for us". Amazing how far fear can push one away from living that child-like faith about which Jesus spoke was the Kingdom of Heaven. They tend to forget certain verses they don't like, such as Matthew 7:1
Saw them at the warehouse in Sacramento pre Doppleganger. After a few songs, someone yelled "what about jesus." Terry got visibly irritated and suggested they ask BJ Thomas. BJ had just denied Christ in a CCM interview! Now that was funny.
LoL- I remember that, I was there. Yep, if every other word wasn't 'Jesus' there were plenty of "Super-Christians" (fanatics) around back then to remind us, and always it was without polite consideration of the people present. Just be glad they're so tame compared to muslummm fanatics... BANG! ☻
This was when they were in their "new wave" more or less "Cars" era. In 1975 they had a different style altogether, more rock/folk. Then they moved to hard country and then to this new wave style. I think they were trying to keep up with what ever rock fad was a hit. A lot of their music in this concert reminds me of a "Rock Lobster" style material; quasi punk new wave stuff.
These guys were creating real commercial music for us in the 80's while the mainstream Christian media was shoving Sandi Patti down our ears. OUCH! It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.
I've got a Choir concert that I posted video of on my videos page. If you've still got the Daniel Amos one on disc I'll swap shows with you. Let me know.
@@Emando_com Yes I thought it was funny that the camera was focused on the idiot stick during the guitar solo. (Actually I have great respect for the bass... Im just poking fun... with the idiot stick.. ha ha poking fun with the idiot stick....ha ha ha....)

MoreThanAnOx Really, I thought country WAS the devil's music. LOL

That lifestyle is in every type of ministry - but not in every ministry.

DA thank you for all the great ground breaking albums during our youth that showed us all you could play guitar and drums and still serve our Lord!
Played this show on WEFT about 4 months ago, great replies every time I play their music. :D

ALARMA is one of my favorite albums and songs
THANKS
Man, I've got this on vinyl! - Great Band!
This song almost made me miss the 80's.
Shotgun Angel and Horrendous Disc are two of my favorite all time albums.
Me too.
Lead guitarist plays a solo. Camera cuts to a closeup of the bass player. Classic!
All in all, a good job of capturing an important time in the band's development.
I noticed that too. Hilarious!!!

Just when they were on the cusp of greatness. Love it.

You Don't Hear the Eagles Influence?
This is great! Thanks!
I saw Daniel Amos 6 years before they even existed.
... thank you for this... one of my favorite bands... peace

This is real history. Thanks for posting. Saw them at my high school right after Shotgun Angel was released.
Terry Taylor (aka Terry Scott Taylor) - lead vocals & guitar
Jerry Chamberlain - Guitar & BGVs
Tim Chandler - Bass & BGVs
Ed McTaggart - Drums & BGVs

Such a great concert!!
Where is the love for Vector? Steve Taylor and Charlie Peacock were always there and solid.
This was after Marty Dieckmeyer and Mark Cook left the band. Tim Chandler started playing with DA in 1982.
Was peeping Terry's Salvation Air Force t-shirt. Good band fronted by Canada's Gossett brothers.
Darn Floor Big Bite interesting album...one I quite like
I still have the Alarma and Horrendous Disc albums on vinyl.
I remember going to see them live,.it was great !
Such great memories right here

Totally agree, except for your use of the word "were" - they still are excellent musicians, and they're working on a new album as we speak! :)
Thank you!!!!
Thats my english teacher!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
His names John Cook
Dangggggggggggggggg myenlish teacher was famous
@capt2video Where did you find this amazing old footage of DA?
I love DA but just have one question! It's the 80s, so where's our rocket packs??

They mention Jesus more in this show than any of the modern crap on the radio today.
Does anyone know the full setlist of this show? Type: Song 1.Alarma ... 2. I Love You .. so on!
Rock on, Jerry!
their 1st 2 lps had their best music....
This is just a great concert. Well-done editing as well. Was this originally from WTTW?
RIP Tim Chandler

Cool song....knight watchman... greg boardman band
Did you know there are 66 books in the Bible and 40 of them do not contain the name "Jesus"?
And?
fire the camera man who is lame enough to do a close up of the bass player during the guitar solo.
That's the editor's choice, not the camera man's. Could be the same person, though. Pretty funny, but happens all the time.
Promote that man as a hero and genius.
Happens often in concert films!!!!!
@@Emando_com Yes I thought it was funny that the camera was focused on the idiot stick during the guitar solo. (Actually I have great respect for the bass... Im just poking fun... with the idiot stick.. ha ha poking fun with the idiot stick....ha ha ha....)
Where's Marty the bass player?
Great band. I'm a one man band on youtube.
No Shotgun Angel or anything pre Horendous disc?
They had passed their peak by this time. I'd already seen them a few times, each time they were worse. Their first 2 albums were their best.
+vagabondrecon Are you from Dallas?
I have to say their best stretched to at least Alarma. Definitely Horrendous Disc.
