    Another great day on the water. Pretty cool that you got that squid too!! Ready for some serious halibut sessions now. Looks like you got some new downriggers on the boat. Nice!! Good luck, have fun, and be safe out there my friends.

      Hi @davidsolberg9464 thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this action! Yes indeed these big squid are serious halibut bait! The electrical connections were starting to get spotty on my previous downriggers so I pulled them off to repair them and added these Cannon Mag 10s to keep me fishing. Thanks again and tight lines! Zac, you need to open a sandwich shop. The ones you make look delicious. Good fishing video considering the weather was not the best.

      Hey @bradhutchison6226 thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this video! I'm using a Daiwa Seaborg 500MJ here - small enough to be fished "in hand" for halibut jigging and strong enough to battle barn doors! Tight lines! Captain Zac

      Hey Steve the electrical connection on my white Cannon Digitroll 10 Tournament Series (now the Optimum series) units were starting to get spotty so I pulled them off to repair them and added these Cannon Mag 10s to keep me fishing. These Digitroll units have been fantastic for five and a half seasons and I'm expecting them to be just fine once I sure up the electrical connection. I do like these Mag 10s so far as well! Thanks and tight lines! Captain Zac

      Hi @jago76 thanks for watching! I understand from speaking with a few folks that this is a Magister Squid. I'll keep my eye out for Humbolt squid as well, especially as I start using these squid jigs more frequently! Thanks and tight lines! Captain Zac

      Hey @markleonard-pe3os thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this footage! I offered to have Mary reel in some of these salmon but she insisted that I reel them in. There will be plenty more cohos later this season and I'm sure she'll have lots of fun coho battles! Yes that squid will make great bait! Tight lines! Captain Zac

    THANKS FOR THE VIDS/ YOU DON'T EAT THE CHUM SALMON? NOT TASTY?

    • @CaptainZac
      @CaptainZac  5 месяцев назад

      Hi @bones8057 thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this video! Generally speaking, the Kings, Cohos, and Sockeyes are the best table fare and the Pinks and Chums are less desirable (less oil, mushy meat, etc.). Some folks smoke the Pinks and Chums which firms up the meat and gives it better flavor. I either release Pinks and Chums or cut them up for halibut or crab bait. Thanks and tight lines! Captain Zac

    What do squid look like on the fish finder? Dense marks at 600 feet in 800 feet of water?

    • @CaptainZac
      @CaptainZac  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hey @AKFish2023 thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this footage! For this quick session given the heavy chop and the depth, I wasn't analyzing the depth finder but rather was just orienting to what appeared to be a nice spot on the depth charts (a super deep shelf/point). I'll be doing more squidding in the future and will keep an eye on the sonar for the visual queues. I've heard they look like a band of long whispy lines consistently across a depth range. Thanks and tight lines! Captain Zac

      Hi @benmirka3648 I offered but she insisted that I reel these ones in! When the cohos start really running within a few weeks, I guarantee that she'll be battling plenty of big cohos! Tight lines! Captain Zac
