I know a lot of people complain about BA, but once again the service was standard. That's just it, nothing amazing, nothing terrible, just consistency. I don't have a problem with the food or service on board BA, I always find it fairly good. What I do hate is the club world seats, I can't stand them and I can't wait for BA to change them out. Thank you for posting this TR.
It's all relative. I'm lucky to leave in a region that has the best airlines, and I'm sorry, everybody reckons they're cr@p compared to the competition in my region. Maybe compared to the Americans they're OK but wouldn't know about that..thank god.
I usually travel alone so I really dislike sitting next to families. It must show on my face. Occasionally an air hostess has been kind enough to move me forward if I'm sat next to a ill behaved child. I really like flying BA business when I can. I do think you are really missing out by not drinking alcohol though. The BA wine cellar is pretty good. They always have great champagne . . . I had the Castelnau flying to Miami .... and they are very generous with it. I also like the seat configuration. It gives more of a feeling of privacy than some other carriers, especially by the window. Great vid. Thanks.
The landing light is located at the front, you are referring to the runway turnoff lights under the wings. Pilots turn on the landing light for ATZ departure and arrival below 10000 ft
No I absolutely cannot sleep during a flight I pay for it I don't want to miss anything plenty of time to sleep when I reach my destination thank you for fantastic videos they bring back find memories for me your first class..👍💜👍

no, I'd rather not be seated by a babie. I was on a southwest flight and me and my family were last on and the only seats were by a family with two little kids. the young kid kept screaming and even kicked me in the face and the dad did nothing. SoI hope and wish I don't have to sit next to a baby when I fly. Nice video, really enjoyed. Thanks!😄😊😊
How would you get motion sickness? May I ask you: when you're on a standard economy flight do you ever have the feeling of moving forward when in the air? I don't so I have no problem.
David flights can give me pretty bad motion sickness. Last week I was on a night flight for 8 hours and it wasn't comfortable. I think rear facing seats, for me, wouldn't change anything and I might actually find it comfortable
it's sometimes nice to sit next to a family, they're usually very cute. If not, there is always a possibility to wear headsets and watch a movie. :) And awsome vid as always!
Nailed it again. A superb report. So interested to see your footnotes. I find it difficult to sleep on flights but manage to snooze lightly. Thanks for sharing. Please keep posting : )
To be honest, I don't feel an enthusiasm for travelling in close proximity to babies when they are upset and crying. Having said that, I am aware that babies are as entitled to travel as I am and prior to learning how to talk, they don't have much choice but to cry! I solve the problem by taking along some ear plugs, which I find smaller and more convenient that noise cancelling headphones. Thank you for the splendid video.
Man I can sleep anywhere. I slept quite well on canvas seats in the belly of a C-17A Globemaster; stretched out or crammed in shoulder to shoulder. Flying business class might be too comfortable! But I'd love to try it. :)
Haha, I know the feeling, Morgan. When I was in the military, I was a lot on a C-130J and slept like a baby in those as well. Something about the constant humming aboard that is sleep-inducing...
Landing lights "on" is a standard checklist item, even during the day. They missed it, bit of a worry, what else did they miss? ETOPS is 180 minutes. Yeah other people have mentioned this here and before BA food has got to be nearly the worst across the major airlines, and last when I flew with them I got the impression that the FAs kind of just leave you to your own devices in between the standard meal times. Like they don't ask you every now and again do you want anything ect..they just kind of disappear. Could be just my imagination, what was your impression?
I'm sorry that you can't sleep during flights. Perhaps if you had a drink that might relax you a little. ? You can avoid the headaches by drinking lots of water as well as some alcohol. When I flew BA Club World from HK I slept like a baby despite a very heavy turbulence (as I was later told by my travel companions). I woke up just in time for breakfast. I guess if you dim the lights, shut (dim) the Windows you might be able to relax a little a slowly drift into a nice nap. You might want to try some meditation too. As you seem to travel in business class quite a lot you should make the most of those flat beds! All the best!;)
When I was flying a bunch of miles on various carriers in the US, as the food got worse the out of dates followed that. On numerous flights I would check the dates and it was out of date by a week. My advice start checking dates as the selection goes down hill.
awesome video i like how you did some facts in beggining! And a question which is the longest flight you have been on without landing. Great job! And i wouldnt really care if i sat next to a baby i just hope that he/ she wouldnt scream
Landing lights are probably on but there is a blown bulb maybe? I've seen a few aircraft landing at Heathrow with only one side lit up or one side which is dimmer
Or they just forgot :) Maybe they turned on the ones on the front gear and that was enough for takeoff. You dont need too much light on the runway, just follow the lights on the tarmac
can you do a video flying delta? do you use points when you fly so you don't have to pay for all of it? what do you do as a job that you travel so much? you have my dream job please answer me
BA doesn't fly this route anymore as of 2019. My guess is that the flights aren't in demand compared to Toronto. Now its Air canada and westjet flying from Calgary to London. Some wish British airways would code share with air canada to fly from Calgary to London but I don't think that's possible
Excellent, informative video, thank you. As for the product, I think the ONLY seats worth taking are those on the aisles...I would die of claustrophobia if I were sandwiched in that cubby-hole between two seats, or against the window! Still, on the whole, a great improvement on BA's horribly cramped biz-class on the B777.
Quick question - How wide are those seats/isle ways? I'm a big guy, and coach doesn't really work well for me. Are Business/First class seats much wider?
Darth Smirnoff I usually Google seat pitch and width. It might be listed on BA’s site as well. If width is an issue, premium economy may not work because the arm rests/sides do not move.
They either forgot, or the was no need to turn on the landing (takeoff) lights. I don't know this airport very well (I'm based on the Gold Coast QLD Aus), but I do know that pilots find interior/exterior lighting distracting during takeoff, especially inside the cabin. The runway was probably well lit, and the pilot found no need to turn on the exterior lighting. Whilst saying this, turning on/off lighting is included in the final departure checklist, so forgetting this may have been the reason. Other than that, I don't know. I have seen some mistakes on the pilot's behalf before, whether it's forgetting to turn on logo lights or forgetting to retract the gear. I hope this helped.
Hi, hope you enjoyed your stay in Calgary. Did you get a chance to visit the rocky mountains and see some breathtaking views in Banff and Lake Louise? FYI - Calgary International Airport just completed building a brand new International Terminal, which is due to open next week. You may have seen the new terminal? Anyways, hope to see you again in Calgary. Keep up the good videos!
the Luxury Travel Expert You Should. Here is a link to the new terminal. Due to open on Oct 31, 2016. Cheers. www.yyc.com/en-us/calgaryairportauthority/newinternationalterminal/about/internationalterminal.aspx

I always find it amusing to see BA's business cabin that features such configurations. It seems like you fly backwards in certain seating position. Did you find it uncomfortable in any way with such seating?
It does look awkward, but it makes sense. No one's legs are wider than their shoulders, so configuring in a ying-yang gives more room to those in the seats, and takes up less room in the row.
I am looking to fly to Calgary next year for the Stampede and visiting friends. Here is the thing with BA Business Class that I really do not like. But you may correct me on this. Is BA Business Class on the 787 like all their other Business Class as in 2+2+2?, or have they finally gone for 1+2+1 set up like Air Canada's Business Class?. Cheers. At the moment Air Canada looks the better quality Business Class, also fly's out of Terminal II which is the best Terminal at Heathrow.
BA Business Class on the B787 is a 2-3-2 layout. You can have a look at the seating plan here: www.seatguru.com/airlines/British_Airways/British_Airways_Boeing_787-8.php
As expected, Air Canada has the better seat not by a small margin, but by a Royal Mile. 1+2+1 with Air Canada, and the seats pointing the right direction. BA's old 2+2+2 with clamber over anyone next to you. Air Canada Business Class it is then. Cheers for the seatguru thing.
The reason that the cabin is dark on take off is so that there is no glare on the windows e.g. if an engine suddenly set on fire, it would probably be a passenger who saw it first and they would raise the alarm. Former cabin crew knowledge!
I've never flown business or first and in all honesty after seeing what BA offer in comparison to some other carriers not sure I would use BA if this is the normal standard.
I'm pretty sure that they don't have the landing lights on in case of a fire so they don't think it's the gear lights and that's why they dim the cabin lights also. I think...
Great channel, always well captioned. Noticed even more info and facts, particularly about the Dreamliner, this video which was really great. I'm an avid fact finder myself, but it is always welcome to be reminded of info you once read about. Have you considered adding in 'trivia' or aviation general knowledge just so people can really learn not only about your specific flights but also learn from your vast aviation experiences in general. So for example, the reason why cabin lights are dimmed for take-offs and landings. I am sure many people do wonder why and later forget to look it up. If such a fact was presented to them, i'm sure they might find it interesting. Lastly, just for interest sake, what is your stance on families with children/babies boarding before first/business? This would be particularly more noticeable on planes where boarding takes place through only one door, as opposed to a plane like an A380 where the split level boarding wouldn't (more often than not) make you notice that this happens (or doesnt happen depending on each airline's policy)
Hi Jamie, thank you for your great comment. Your suggestion of adding trivia is very good; will try to do that in my next flight clip. Well, I am perfectly fine with families boarding first. I don't have kids myself, but I guess that it's a relief for most families to board the plane without any other passengers disturbing them.
the Luxury Travel Expert Very well reasoned. While I myself have never particularly struggled with kids around on a flight, I am lucky to be able to sleep anywhere with disturbances not affecting me too much. I can understand people being put off by the vicinity of kids/babies, especially when disturbed by such, but I think they really should be given priority to board, get settled and whatever they need ready. It speeds up boarding for everyone else too if they aren't blocking the aisles/seats/overheads. Not having kids myself, I also hope that should I be in that position one day, people are courteous and patient with the extra boarding workload required. Keep it up! Take care
You had a lot of chance to met a cabin crew you met before !!! In general, the cabin crews themselves doesn't meet them twice during a job in an airline
Brit Air is certainly cutting back on their food and beverage. The lounge on the ground was, let's face it', pretty crummy. Can you imagine having to fork out cash to use it? The onboard offerings were limited and boring. One appetizer? Breakfast was an abomination of nothing. Even when I began flying with BOAC in the 1950s, you got a full meal with choices and a cooked breakfast, not an Egg McMuffin.
Yes, I read they only serve one starter (mozzarella salad) for flights departing London, while they maintain a choice of starters for flights towards London.
nice video, I enjoyed. I dont like to sit near families with babies, imo they should not sit in business class. My guess about the landing lights....it was a take off :)
Amy, we are not talking about well behaved children but babies. you cannot stop them from crying sometimes which is ok, but in business class you usually find some hard working people who need silence for work or a good sleep. that makes it difficult.
It was remarkably quiet during take off. It's a nice plane but does look like it lacks personal space you'd expect. Children would be acceptable so long as they are well behaved and parents look after them
I hate babies and little kids sitting behind me on a plane because they talk way too much and they scream and they kick chairs in front of you and keep saying are we there yet? it's just so annoying
Couldn't agree more, children will be children but airlines should allocate a sound proof area where first and business class can enjoy their flight without wanting to commit infanticide.
I believe that Malaysian Airlines has experimented with that concept. They banned children from the top deck of their A380 planes, but I am not sure if that policy still holds (and I believe they are trying to get rid of their A380 planes)
I am a mother who flys internationally frequently with my 3 year old. We fly business class and quite frankly I deserve to go there as much as anyone else. My daughter is quiet and if she starts making a noise ie a tantrum I move to the galley area to calm her down. People say don't fly with young children and babies but realistically how else do I see my entire family who live in another country. If I can afford to fly business, and try my hardest to have a respectful child then why shouldn't I. I've been on planes with Loud drunk men in business, a rapper who was loud talking about his sexual conquests etc.. they are much worse than a child who sits there, watches tv and occasionally asks questions.
you are, unfortunately, a minority. most parents don't care and will not make any attempt to pacify their offspring. they are too preoccupied with consuming as much free booze as possible.
Very well done vid. Bravo! Are you concerned at all about the RR engines used in this version of the 787, considering all the problems that they have had as of late with the Trent's?
The only way for me to sleep on a plane is with pills......Xanax.....valium......etc..........another great video...you have such attention to detail.....thanks so much for posting.
i think the pilot just change fleet,i mean he change from airbus to boeing because boeings light switches are push downwards to turn on ,but airbus flips up to seitch on the lights
Probably had the taxi lights on which is on the nose gear of the plane and why it looked so dark.. No real need for the landing lights, which is located on the wings.
Nether,do I.When you are sitting alone you have more chances to have a great flight and relax.I thought i am only person who is happy to sit separate from your family)

Yea in about 20 years they might change it!! I tell u what though, the seat is more comfy then Etihads! Not better just more comfy.
for the amount of money you pay you have the right to complain. Complaints help improve. Staying quiet like yourself keeps things terrible.
John Singleton in actual fact.... Those seats will be changed in about 2 years.
I love these reports! They're factors in some of my travel decision making. Thanks again!

Glad you like them!

21:31 Is that a CONCORDE? Do they even have those at Heathrow?

Concorde is non operatinal due to the crash in paris and high fuel prices
love your vids there great
Thx

I don't like concept of rear facing 💺 seats,it might also cause motion sickness.

they don't turn on landing lights during taxi as far as i know. there is a nose wheel light the use similar to a car headlight

10:37 With all due respect, your lighting is a bit off and so it's difficult to read anything.
I've never flown business or first and in all honesty after seeing what BA offer in comparison to some other carriers not sure I would use BA if this is the normal standard.
Notice how every business class youtube video out there features the best seat on the plane, ie the window seat and never the middle row.
are u from the UK
In your last video, you posted that BA had decline in service. Then why did you choose to fly with them again.
This was the return flight :)
I'm pretty sure that they don't have the landing lights on in case of a fire so they don't think it's the gear lights and that's why they dim the cabin lights also. I think...
Thanks

Very well reasoned.
They would have turned on the taxi light at the front and most likely the tail light lighting up the taxi and runway counter line and the Union Jack
How much was the business ticket
Nice video! Was it worth the money?
Thank. Business ticket was not too expensive and worth the upgrade over Economy
I agree that food on board British Airways is very disappointing
the Luxury Travel Expert amazing videos i subed maybe you could sub back to help please also keep the good work up thanks
I saw Concorde 😳😱
Looks like this one still had the choice of starters
Yes, I read they only serve one starter (mozzarella salad) for flights departing London, while they maintain a choice of starters for flights towards London.
nice video, I enjoyed. I dont like to sit near families with babies, imo they should not sit in business class. My guess about the landing lights....it was a take off :)
Frank Europe I'm a mother who flys business class. If I can afford it and I have a well behaved child why shouldn't I?
Justin what if the kid has a business, or first class seat?
It's the parents' responsobility
*loudly
you are, unfortunately, a minority. most parents don't care and will not make any attempt to pacify their offspring. they are too preoccupied with consuming as much free booze as possible.
Right on! Good for you! Those who complain about kids must have forgotten that they too were once kids.
Early Flight back in your day their was nothing
Early Flight how exactly do I do that when I have no family here? The whole reason I fly is to go see my family.. who live in another country.
Is it off sides to bring a fat sandwich in to first class to eat later? I don't want to look like a commoner, but most of the food sucks.
Thank a lot for sharing your travel tip :)
21:31 what the concorde??
i think the pilot just change fleet,i mean he change from airbus to boeing because boeings light switches are push downwards to turn on ,but airbus flips up to seitch on the lights
Probably had the taxi lights on which is on the nose gear of the plane and why it looked so dark.. No real need for the landing lights, which is located on the wings.
Hey Mate. I'm just interested do you get paid to make these videos?
I wish I was :). No, I am not paid.
Ok thx for letting me know. I wish I was as rich as you
If there were an airline that provided a child free service to good routes, I would certainly be a regular
I don't like having my family sitting near me even in business class and economy class. If my family sit close to me,I will not be very happy :))
Nether,do I.When you are sitting alone you have more chances to have a great flight and relax.I thought i am only person who is happy to sit separate from your family)
