  • @tmseh

    It's all about structural integrity. The Saladin left most of its primary systems sitting ducks in tactical combat.
    The Larson had a much stouter build, especially with the nacelle supports offering excellent coverage from acute angles.

    The Larson class was always fun to play. I tended to use them as system defense, so that their slow speed was not that much of an issue. And I would also have them in packs of three, they did have a tendency to be a bit on the fragile side.

    Seems to me they could have just put two of the standard nacelles on this ship and not bother with all the work designing a single nacelle with mor power. What’s the advantage of a single nacelle over two? Also, all these different ship designs are fun to see, but other than that one that’s basically a cargo container transporter, I think just having more Constitution class ships would suffice for almost all purposes.

    • @f.r.wilson7603
      @f.r.wilson7603 2 года назад +2

      The advantage of the single nacelle is cheaper costs, lower maintenance, and shorter construction time. The brilliance of the Larson was they could pump out a lot of them in half the time of the Consitution and still have a formidable force.

    I always enjoy your story telling. Another neat little ship from the TOS (those old scientists) era of design. Every time you show the Discovery battle scene it makes me feel sad how they have little blue lasers appear from anywhere on the hull instead of actually having hard points to fire from. Shows how much care the the TNG era SFX teams took when animating their battles. Your space engine animations also look very nice.

    • @johnkinnicutt4509
      @johnkinnicutt4509 2 года назад +1

      Not having visible hard points actually keeps with design philosophy of TOS, Roddenberry didn't want weapon ports or cannons visible, The Enterprise was an exploratory vessel that had to be powerful but not appear threatening to first contacts, that said she needed to have warship capabilites for trouble and frontier defense. In my head Canon, the ports are concealed by armored hatches until red alert situations and open automatically for combat as phasers charge and photons are armed

    redo the angle of the warp pylons from the 30' built as to 45' this gives more volume inside the pylon area. next run a horizontal deck / bar across the pylon space. up high enough that torpedo tubes can be placed in the bar. say 4 fwd & 4 aft. upgrade the phasers to arrays as well.

    you dont need to be a race horse to be a work horse. i would have kept them around to fulfill to rolls you discussed in some of your recent videos. back line supplies. yeah your ships of the line, front line ships need to go zoom zoom fast. supply ships can get by with warp 6. Star bases and system defense ships don't even need that. you got phasers? torpedoes? shields? use it the same way you would the Archer class.

  • @ckmbyrnes
    @ckmbyrnes 2 года назад +1

    Seems to me if they were worried about space on the saucer section, they (Star Fleet) would not design a concave shape on the bottom of the hull. They could easily get two more decks if it was flat or mirrored the shape of the upper part of the hull.

    • @TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics
      @TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics  2 года назад +1

      I take it you mean 2 Bigger Decks :P But you have to remember, it's human nature to mix form with function... Doing what you suggest, would take away from the beauty of the saucer form! Besides, this is SciFi, and SciFi rarely designs boxes with warp nacelles which would have no space problems at all!

  • @Lt.Saavik

    But the Beta-canon also has references to ships that have been refitted and served for a long time (for example, USS Caspian NCC-5507, although, of course, his number is high enough for the bulk of the Larson's - perhaps it was removed from the storage of ships with re-registration.
