@Suffer No Fools No, he _actually watched the show_ and saw that she got the best scripts, the most interesting character development, and actually played the role very skillfully. She's a great actor. It's too bad nothing much else any import or novelty happened on Voyager aside from Seven's journey to rediscover her humanity.

Jeri Ryan still looking as fine today as she did in the 90s, she could probably still get away with the catsuits. Also quite funny that Stewart has clearly never watched a minute of Voyager.
“Get away with” is perhaps the wrong way to put, apparently she barely could back then, and actually passed out several times from wearing them. But she would still look good in them
7of9 was probably my favourite star trek character ever: strong silent type, trouble understanding ppl but inherently good, zero bs (absolutely loved that), and when she did show some affection, it was the most moving genuine thing on the show. Also, of course, she was/is out of this world hot.. that's it, need to rewatch it all again! :D
All points are true and why 7 remains one of Star Trek's greats. Plus, the episodes surrounding her always tended to be some of the better ones. They just did.
Feelings? They paired her up with Chakotay...no chemistry at all... seemed so forced to me... I always pictured Chakotay hooking up with Janeway. 7 i would have liked her paired with Kim or the Doctor.
For as bad as the first three seasons of Voyager is, Seven of Nine really did something that changed that show. There were a lot of great episodes after she came on board and Seven + the EMH doctor are two of the greatest characters all time in Star Trek.
Ridiculous comments. The show didn't suddenly change when Seven arrived, nor did it become more mature in tone. Voyager was actually the most consistent Trek show of them all, with great episodes from the beginning, unlike other Trek series which had a poor first couple of seasons. Seven was certainly a great character who brought a lot to the show, and it could be argued that the show had many of its best episodes in the 4th and 5th seasons after she joined, but I'd say the big boost to the show was the evolution of the Doctor, who in season 4 now had his mobile emitter so could get involved in more interesting storylines. Some of the most successful stories are centered around the Doctor such as "Tinker Tenor", or "Blink of en Eye" - or even episodes where the Doctor is removed from Voyager entirely such as "Living Witness" and "Message In A Bottle". I won't deny that Kes was a poor character. And Seven (and the Borg aspect of the show) is certainly PART of why Voyager was great. But she didn't "save a terrible show" as these comments are suggesting.
@@Scripture-Man Consistent as in formulaic since the Berman formula was so well established by then. TNG had its growing pains but that was part of what made it more interesting seeing how great it became (and it's my all time favorite TV series). DS9 took "inspiration" from Babylon 5 and expanded upon the Cardassian and Bajoran stuff from TNG but it did eventually figure out its own identity. Voyager for the first few seasons felt like the B-sides of TNG (and once again opened with Bajor-related drama). That's not a bad thing per se, but Seven helped the show to develop more of a noticeable sheen. She was sympathetic while still being a badass. And looking attractive doesn't hurt. I agree that the evolution of the Doctor helped as well and I figure most people would say those two were the most interesting characters. It is curious though that the producers of both DS9 and Voyager felt the need to make big fourth season changes in attempts to kindle more interest. Both shows never reached TNG levels of success and I think part of the reason is that people felt a bit fatigued by the Berman formula post-TNG, though being so far from the late 90's, people now wish we had thoughtful and yet grounded sci-fi like that again.

Jeri Ryan's incredible scope and gravitas as an actor, that is her legacy, that is her gift to us. Jeri portrayed a very unique character who we have not seen since or before, she was exemplary as Seven.
She's a very sweet person, and she certainly had her moments as 7 of 9 but her acting never struck me as exemplary, or anywhere near Patrick Stewart (who was a classically trained actor, IIRC she was a model before getting into acting via bit parts on TV shows in the mid to late 80's)
It's a testament to the beauty of Jeri Ryan when even after 20 years she's still the face of the Star Trek Picard posters on public transportation hubs around the world.
They've done a lot of conventions together and there is the old Cliché of the Star Trek Family. When you work in the same circles you're bound to run into each other a few times.
They have likely become well acquainted with one another through the years since their separate Star Trek shows ended, through their mutual invitations to various Star Trek conventions and meet and greet genre events like Comic Con etc.
They only met one time prior to working on this series. Jeri mentioned this in another interview for Star Trek Picard. She also said she's done so many conventions that she knows the rest of the TNG cast as well as family.
A gf back when TNG was first syndicated everywhere, absolutely adored Capt Picard. It's kind of amazing how a person is able to portray a fictional character in such a way as to touch so many. I really appreciate the how the thoughtful writing of ST has positively affected society and attitudes. Thanks for the good work.
It's one of my least favorit Star Trek shows but Seven and the Doctor where really good. She could easily been simply written as eyecandy but was one of the best characters on Voyager
And let's also hear it for 'Firefly' which was axed way, WAY too soon, such that crowdfunding was needed to help bring the storylines to a premature close by making the film 'Serenity'.
I liked it a lot simply because it seemed to replicate TNG with very high accuracy. Every other Star Trek is it's own thing that is very different from everything else. (with possibly the exception of Discovery and Picard being vaguely similar now, but really it's kind of loose)
This was such a delight to watch! Often times these types of interviews are either stale and always follow a similar scheme or somewhat cringe-worthy. Here, the interviewer seemed so genuine and interested while at the same time being relaxed enough to make witty (respectful) comments and jokes. Very sympathetic! Loved the questions as well!
Interestingly enough though, in the original series, Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner both talked about having to pull down their uniform tops whenever they stood, or constantly readjusting them, because they started tight and only shrunk with washings. It wasn't a problem inherent to Picard, it started long before then, haha
@@MissLilRedRooster Very true. Nimoy and Shatner pulled their tops down when they stood up while Stewart and Frakes had to adjust theirs when they sat down. While Stewart is given the attention of that, it was actually Frakes who had to pull on his uniform sooner. It should be "The Riker Manoeuver."
Yes. There's the in-universe "Picard maneuver" where he initiated a short range warp jump to appear to be in two places at once for a moment to confuse an enemy. So people started using that name to describe his shirt tug.
I have always been fascinated with Jeri Ryan. She plays Seven of Nine and ultra serious and mostly humorless creation of the Borg and yet when I have seen her interviewed she seems to be warm, funny and very quick to laugh. It must have been difficult to hide that true nature deep inside that character.
There was a lot of tension on the set after Ryan joined, largely because Kate Mulgrew was jealous that she was no longer the show's leading lady, so I imagine it was a lot easier for Ryan to remain deadly serious.
I was at the last Con appearance of Ray Bradbury and the story he told goes: He would be walking around and people would come up to him saying: “Mr. Roddenberry? We had heard you were deceased.” (The Star Trek producer had actually died some time ago) Bradbury would assure them, “no, still alive. I hope you are doing well.” They would then ask for his autograph and Bradbury would sign it as Roddenberry.
And later on when they really found out that Gene Roddenberry was really already dead, they can claim they got the autograph from his ghost. Brilliant.
I like this Ali Plumb. Not only doesn't he fawn over his interviewees but actually takes the time to research before he talks to them. Definitely someone Im going actively seek out on RUclips.
Nice interview. This is the kind that breaks up a celeb's day: questions that are a little different from what the other interviewers are doing. You treat them like actual people, they'll both remember this as a good interview.
So funny how Sir Stewart is talking about his costume being too tight. When Jeri Ryan couldn't sit down or turn her head and passed out a few times in it because it cut off the circulation to her carotid in her costume. She also had to take regular breaks so she could breathe properly and they had an air tank on standby for her.
@@JKArcade Of course they would. It's a part of the job in order to play the character. Just like accepting the risk of a building collapsing on top of them is a part of firefighter's job. Or facing armed, drugged criminals is a police officer's job. Or risk contracting strange, dangerous diseases (like the corona virus) is a part of physicians and nurses' job. Some people need to handle radioactive materials or extremely toxic chemicals as a part of their job. And then finally there are the soldiers, who can say dying is just a part of their job.
@@herrakaarme Or you could just make a suit that doesn't asphyxiate her. There's no way to make fires not burn; but costume designers can make non-lethal costumes.
This is a well run interview. Good job to whoever this interviewer is. It really felt interesting and not like a rehash of all the other media tour content out there. Watched every minute. Cheers!

Same here, my wife thought Voyager was rubbish and wouldn't watch it. Then when 7 of 9 joined she got hooked. Had to go back to season one so she could figure it all out lol.
Jerry Ryan posted a picture of her mother on Twitter. I tweeted does her mom date younger men. 7 of 9 tweeted back no with laughing emoji. One of the best days of my life

My two _absolute_ favorite characters from the Star Trek universe! Picard goes without saying. Jeri Ryan made my jaw drop when she made her first de-borged appearance! At first, I had to watch the show just to see her in it. She did such an amazing job with her character, I eventually forgot about how stunning she was and enjoyed her character in the show! Very few characters in the televised ST universe had as much growth as her. Her observations, and wit, were fun to watch.
Two actors actually enjoying an interview, it was really fun to watch and made me love them and their characters even more. Brilliant job to the interviewer for knowing these people and there work.

Jeri Ryan has such a heartwarmingly lough, that you can't resist smiling with her! Nice to see still that!
Have Patrick Stewart and Jeri Ryan ever met before Star Trek: Picard? They get along like really good old friends.
They have been working on it for the last two years, plus the TNG cast is really friendly so she would just stick right in
They've done a lot of conventions together and there is the old Cliché of the Star Trek Family.
ThomasFishwick no, they actually said they’d only met once before filming Picard.
I used to date a girl that was the 7th born of 9 children. She would sign her emails, texts, etc to me 7of9
But was she hot enough to use that designation?
@@Khepramancer Yes, she was.
@@bigelile07 ; )
@@bigelile07 Then that's fantastic on multiple levels. You have my envy :D
And did you assimilate her or not??
A gf back when TNG was first syndicated everywhere, absolutely adored Capt Picard. It's kind of amazing how a person is able to portray a fictional character in such a way as to touch so many. I really appreciate the how the thoughtful writing of ST has positively affected society and attitudes. Thanks for the good work.
What a fun interview... Jeri and Patrick looked like they were truly having a great time. =)
So many people say star trek voyage was crap but i think it was/is still one of the best after years of it ending.
Robert Picardo would be proud
It's one of my least favorit Star Trek shows but Seven and the Doctor where really good. She could easily been simply written as eyecandy but was one of the best characters on Voyager
Vyager was my favorite, great cast, great premise and just overall a joy to watch (except for the organ harvesting and face stealing, that was creepy)
The pulling down of the uniform after you stand up is known as "The Picard manoeuvre" isn't it?
Interestingly enough though, in the original series, Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner both talked about having to pull down their uniform tops whenever they stood, or constantly readjusting them, because they started tight and only shrunk with washings. It wasn't a problem inherent to Picard, it started long before then, haha
Always heard it referred to as the "Picard Shrug."
@@cs-mh2dh I believe the "Riker Maneuver" involves not being able to sit on a chair without first throwing a leg over the back of it.
It must have been difficult to hide that true nature deep inside that character.
it's called acting. :P
There was a lot of tension on the set after Ryan joined, largely because Kate Mulgrew was jealous that she was no longer the show's leading lady, so I imagine it was a lot easier for Ryan to remain deadly serious.
I don’t think Jeri Ryan has aged a bit. 20-year-old crush… Still intact.
Matthew Bittenbender she hasn’t. Met her in 2018 at a Star Trek convention
Disagree. She's definitely aged for the better.
I met her at a sci fi event a few years back and she was very lovely!
yes,,a very sexy woman ,ageless Jeri Ryan..
RIGHT? Some women age well, but she just didn't age! She's as gorgeous now as she was 30 years ago.
Love her even more, the laugh of an angel.
I was at the last Con appearance of Ray Bradbury and the story he told goes:
He would be walking around and people would come up to him saying: “Mr. Roddenberry? We had heard you were deceased.”
(The Star Trek producer had actually died some time ago)
Bradbury would assure them, “no, still alive. I hope you are doing well.”
They would then ask for his autograph and Bradbury would sign it as Roddenberry.
Jeri’s reaction of disbelief that Sir Patrick didn’t know she wore a catsuit is a scream 😂
She still has a crush on him, which is admirable, considering a lot of people still have a crush on her
Just never noticed it😂
I wonder how ?
Nice interview. This is the kind that breaks up a celeb's day: questions that are a little different from what the other interviewers are doing. You treat them like actual people, they'll both remember this as a good interview.
The most beautiful woman in a Star Trek series goes decades without appearing to age a day. I think we should call this the Nichelle Nichols Effect.
@Richard Page can I put in a word for Jolene Blalock (T'Pol), she was sooooooooooooooooo hot.
I must admit it was marina sirtis as Deanna troi that I had a crush on not as much now though
I think you forgot about Susan Oliver.
@@kevmccormick1767 Marina Sirtis was one of the reasons I realised I was gay. Damn, Troi could read my mind anytime!

Wow, an interviewer who doesn't come out as arse. I like this guy.
He's actually brilliant, always properly knows his shit about them and doesn't come off as cringey
Agreed. It was well researched and laid back.
@@funoff3207 right even when he pulled out the little action figure it wasnt cringy or creepy at all!! He makes even the smallest of things enjoyable.
@Reed Richards When? I missed that part.
Watching the video again (algorithm and all) and going through the comments and without paying much attention, I almost liked my comment lol.
Geez, you'd think they'd.....I dunno....not put an actress through that.

They were real dicks back in the 1990s.

This is a well run interview. Good job to whoever this interviewer is. It really felt interesting and not like a rehash of all the other media tour content out there. Watched every minute. Cheers!
