So touching that he was so young working with Vivian Leigh. He must find some of that perfume and pack it up with her gift. As to Joop - yes! I love that! I've bought it for myself. This reminds me of an event that was a genuine blessing in my youth… I was fortunate enough to see Patrick Stewart perform with the Royal Shakespeare Company. It was way back in 1980 or 1981. This was back before his stratospheric rise to fame. Roughly around the time of “Lifeforce” and “Excalibur”… he had a small, supporting role in each movie. It was obvious Patrick Stewart was the leader. He displayed an excellent sense of humor. If William Shakespeare was alive today, he would ask for Patrick Stewart’s autograph.
Vivien Leigh was a brilliant actress! She was of course amazing in Gone With the Wind and A Streetcar Named Desire, but I also loved movies like Waterloo Bridge, and That Hamilton Woman among others. All these films showcase the range of her talent. She was so beautiful!

Where absolutely no one else could have played these roles so perfectly, and where the movies would not have become the iconic cultural landmarks they became.
Ironically, she had to hide her British accent.
Good point. ☝️
"Iconic cultural landmarks" Wow,
I can't believe anyone seriously considers that as iconic
I'm listening with great enjoyment to Patrick Stewart's autobiography right now after having heard this interview. If you enjoyed this clip, I can't recommend it enough (even whilst only halfway through). So much more like a literary one-man play than an autobiography, chock full of anecdotes and thoughtful musings. It doesn't hurt that he still possesses a wonderful voice. A really nice interview, and I remain a steadfast fan of the podcast.
Sir Patrick is one of my favourites. So down to earth and kind. Not just a great actor but a great mine. I'll be very upset when he's no longer with us.
What an amazing storyteller Patrick is. I wasn't sure how this would end. The world doesn't have stars like Vivian anymore.❤
We have Judy Dench here in England. An incredible actress and a very nice person...
@@gemmag.2988 She’s not a superstar and beauty like Vivien though…
@@gauravw6947 She is a superstar but no beauty I agree.
@@gemmag.2988 She hardly qualifies as a superstar, even though she’s a great actress…
Wow! I've always adored Patrick Stewart - so many memories from Star Trek and I was lucky to see him perform Christmas Carol live. Incredible performances! So touching that he was so young working with Vivian Leigh. He must find some of that perfume and pack it up with her gift. As to Joop - yes! I love that! I've bought it for myself. A KLM flight steward introduced me to Joop!
WOW! What an amazing story! LOVE this Patrick interview!!!
The Vivian Leigh film,”That Hamilton Woman” is a masterpiece and is never spoken about.
Gone With The Wind is an AMAZING film and Vivien Leigh was compelling
Patrick Stewart is such a wonderful raconteur. I had never heard his stories about Vivien Leigh before. Absolutely fascinating.
I grew up in the 70s and 80s watching the original Star Trek shows and movies, but Star Trek Next Generation is the one I really connected with. Sir Patrick Stewart is a big reason why I loved that show. He is an amazing actor and storyteller. He will always be my Captain!
Captain Kirk deserves all of the honors.
EXCUSE ME what about DS9??? I know I know, Sisko kinda sucks, but everyone else is amazing, plus it's the one that holds up best today ('cause it's so serial and less episodic). But, yessss, when it comes to captains Picard is the absolute #1 (Numbah One)... Janeway is #2 ❤
Hey nerds, this is literally not about you.
@@robertveith6383 With a doubt! Kirk was my 1st captain! Back in the 70's I would come home from elementary school and watch Star Trek!
@@JackAShepherd I actually liked Sisko. DS9 was different, but I definitely enjoyed it too. Janeway was a great captain too!
Wonderful story. Very touching. Such amazing memories , Sir Patrick must have.
What a charming story. What a gift for Patrick Stewart. Iconic, exquisite Vivien Leigh! Superb actress!
Thank you, Conan, and Patrick for sharing this bundle of amazing memories of a great actress. I'd love to see photos of some of that touring company's work.
She was beyond beautiful. Stunning to look at
The ability of this man to make romance from the most average moment
Also Conan’s ability to bring all down to Joop. Joop Conan JOOP
One of the most beautiful movie stars of all time!!❤️
Thank you Sir Patrick for sharing those stories. Just wonderful to hear these tidbits.
One of my mum's favourite perfume was 'joy' it was really expensive as I recall being told back in the 60s as a child . Its beautiful and I can remember the smell like yesterday .. I was named after Vivien Leigh so when Patrick mentioned this I immediately got a shiver down my spine. Wow x
Joy by Houbigant actually came back for a while in the late 80s. Yes, it was a very 30’s and 40’s fragrance.
@@jimcarlile7238 Joy was by Jean Patou.
I love Vivien Leigh, thank you for sharing your incredible story Sir P. Stewart!
Such an incredible momement sitting with vivien leigh
Sir Patrick Stewart is such a lovely man ❤
Beautiful segment - and Vivien Leigh was simply the best!!!
I love Conan’s ability to derail a touching moment in a way that feels natural and is hilarious
I watched Patrick Stewart in a Shakespeare production back in about 1989. He was fantastic - is still fantastic.
I Claudius.....drops mic
How amazing and fabulous is that story? What an experience for Patrick Stewart. Love it. I always loved Vivien Leigh. She was extraordinary.
This is the most wonderful story I've ever heard!
This podcast is such a gift! These conversations are a gold mine
so happy to have come across this. been in love with vivien since i was ten. thank you patrick!
What a great story. Vivien was such a wonderful Actor and gracious lady to Patrick. Btw..I love JOOP!
What a beautiful memory of an outstanding actress. That's crazy to hear that she struggled with bipolar disorder but was kind enough to explain to nobody Patrick in the blanket tuxedo why she had to leave. I didn't know she was bipolar, but she's a legend for a reason.
Conan brings out the vulnerable and the funny out of his guests…Conan is the best
I fall in love with Vivien Leigh and I saw Gone with the wind around 2005 I think. It was a beautiful movie
Every second of this episode with Sir Patrick Stewart was perfection. This is my most favorite one to date. What an awesome person he is.
🙏 Vivien Leigh >>> Iconic & Legendary Actress from Gone with the Wind fame ... Even in today's Film Studies ... Vivien Leigh still being admired & studied by her students ... If only Vivien didn't had TB & bipolar mental illness ... 🙏 Thank You So Much Patrick for sharing this rather private side of Vivien Leigh with the World! May Vivien Leigh be blessed to a Better World & Realm ... 🙏🌷🌿🌎💜🕊
