They were already riding on the back of concepts made by people who weren't even with the company back in 2011! Michael Kirkbride has been gone for a while and there never was very much hope that The Elder scrolls 6 would ever be good, we can only hope.
I will add that Michael Kirkbride still does occasionally "phone in" to add new lore still, he wrote a new lorebook in 2017 for The Elder Scrolls Online titled "The Thirty-Six Lessons of Vivec, Sermon Thirty-Seven" and has been consulted for lore opinions by Zenimax, so i want to reiterate that its not completely bleak.
