- We're creating a lilac hedge! And we always use a weed barrier fabric whenever we plant landscaping at the Farmhouse. Check out our trick for planting though landscape fabric using a Bernzomatic TS4000T torch. It's a quick and easy way to get a hole for the plant and also seals up woven fabric in the process. You can find out more about this project at The Grit and Polish

ahhhhhhhhhhh, you have a youtube channel!!!! I will binge watch all your videos! I am in LOVE with your blog.
Yay! Thank you!
Instead of burning a hole, it might work better to burn an "X". Then just fold the flaps back to put the plant in, and fold them back over the plant base. This way the fabric covers everything. Saw this on a Home Depot video.
Good idea!
Saw a similar video where they just used a Stanley Kife to cut the "X" shape - works as well and no burner needed
This topic should have included the type of landscape fabric used, in this case, woven fabric.
wow! amazing..i am just starting my research. The plants do ok with little air and water only going in that circle? we have such an enormous front yard that we need this fabric to go in and then go and make holes like you did! anything i need to be aware of? Thanks so much
Yes the plants do well and some water does get through the fabric. Hope your project goes well!
Instead of using weed fabric, could you use tarps, like the cheap ones
at Harbor Freight?
I do think these would keep the weeds from growing but they might also prevent water from draining so the areas about the tarp might get swampy following a good rain. Even though his landscape fabric is a continuous barrier it is designed to allow water through
We sale this Landscape/garden fabric with holes
Melting plastic is a giant no no otherwise very informative thank you
Glad it was helpful!
