- Walter Emilio Orellana, 24 of Wichita Falls, was sentenced to 40 years in prison on Thursday for shooting a Vernon Police officer with a sawed off shotgun last year. The sentence was handed out in the 46th District Court after a trial before a jury of eight women and four men at the Wilbarger County Courthouse.
District Attorney Staley Heatly said that this is the first known case in the world where an officer-involved shooting was captured by a gun camera.
Taking center stage during the trial was dramatic video, played for the jury, from three different cameras, which captured the two-minute long incident in which Officer Session confronted Orellana on April 27, 2019. Officer Session was shot in the shoulder by a 20-gauge shotgun blast during the incident. Session received 41 pellet wounds to his shoulder. I know dude thought the same thing. I thought his reload time was pretty dam ok considering the situation and the fact they don’t deal with this kind of heavy shit on a day to day. Mag changes on the range vs. during a firefight are gonna be drastically different. There’s no way to recreate that state of mind. Glad someone else is on the same page haha.

During the adrenalin rush the training probably still keeps his mind on doing the right moves while the adrenaline itself increases his reaction time while helping with managing the pain from the gunshot wounds...

It's not how many times you shoot it's where you shoot one shot is lethal if you hit a vital area. Being the brain 2 shot centre of mass. You dont need more bullets just accuracy isn't a glock like 16 plus 1 that's a lot of bullets to help you get to cover or incapacitate at the least.

Well he didnt really struggle with the reload, the empty mag didnt fall out as he expected it to. Just a minor gun/mag misfunction I guess.
Thats why some people train to "rip the mag away" when you reload. Sticky mag problem is real asf

I'm assuming that his shells must have been for a toy gun as a sawn-off at 5 or 6 feet should have blown his shoulder off, not just peppered it.

Intial shots on target and subsequential shots to clear tinted windows for view reasons and gain a bit of time to get distance/cover. Well played Mr. Vernan. When my brother was in prison, he saw everyone in the mess hall beat the shit out of a pedophile then dump cups full of piss on him afterwards. They all planned the attack.
The best part is, the guards didn't do anything to stop it so they were probably in on it. They didn't even sound the alarm.
@@taco884 I don't know where your brother did time, but in the prison I worked in, the inmates didn't care what each other did. The stories of "prison justice" are as phony as they are numerous. When a new inmate comes in, the others will test him. This is usually in the form of an inmate taking his stuff and seeing how he reacts. If the new guy fights back, they generally won't mess with him. If he acts like a punk and cries, runs his mouth, or worse, tells the nearest CO; then he's a punk and they're going to make life miserable for him. When you hear about a group of inmates jumping on one inmate and beating the shit out of him, it's usually over some business. Maybe the guy owed the wrong person. Sometimes it's a gang thing. Sometimes it's just a gang jumping in a new member. But this whole thing about "honor among inmates" is bullshit. It's a jungle in there and the law of the jungle prevails. They're either predator or prey, no matter what their crime was.
Forget those romantic notions of "jailhouse justice". That's hollyweird old movie crap. As a Correctional Officer, I saw first hand how it is in prison. Basically, the law of the jungle applies. Inmates aren't impressed by other inmates' criminal records. They are all just interested in what they can get from each other. When you hear about an inmate getting beaten up, it's usually a personal beef. He probably disrespected the wrong guy, or took something that didn't belong to him, or he owed a debt and didn't pay.

I agree with all these four previous comments but one thing he didn’t do was call out on the radio that the event had happened it didn’t sound like he had already radioed that he was making contact and then after the shots were fired he didn’t notify anybody shots were fired for what seems like an eternity was probably only eight seconds but I didn’t get to see the entire video all I know is that after shit like that goes down you’d want to get on the radio and get some of your boys headed your way.

@@brasha78 it is better to focus on the situation, keep both hands on your gun, and assess the threat than immediately go to your radio. I would rather have the focus to re-engage the threat than get shot worrying about fiddling with my mic. He did a good not rushing in to the radio traffic.

However, it is sure that you would not see the shotgun, those videos are shot at either 15 FPS or 30 FPS (frames per second) and the resolution of those footage is like 480p or less so there's no way to see the weapon at the right time. However, the officer can and he nailed that bastard.
