Preserving Food Everyday For A Week! Canning, Freeze Drying, Freezing, & Dehydrating Harvests!

- Hey guys! Welcome back to another video! Today I wanted to share my week of preserving all different kinds of food! Mostly grown in my backyard but I also had some help from a friend who has a farm. I snagged some extra eggs from her I was able to freeze dry, and some chicken I used for some broth making! I wanted to challenge myself to preserve something everyday (to some degree) for a week. Ive never attempted to put something back every single day. Typically if I preserve its a few days in the week and that's starts to wear me out. As my garden continues to grow ( and as im able to get more land 🤞🏻) Ill be preserving even more food this time of year so its time to start practicing what that will feel like! Hope you enjoy today's video!

I also didn’t know how to preserve food. I started with dehydrating and am working on fermenting and canning now. I’m hoping to invest in a freeze dryer someday! I love how you challenged yourself to can something daily. That makes it a lot less overwhelming!
Love that!! 🙌🏻💯❤️
Same here! My grandmother canned, but it was never a part of my upbringing. I started with waterbath canning. Just salsa the first year. Added jam and canned tomatoes the next. And then it just grew from there. Then I start fermenting, too. And, last year, we got our first dehydrator. Hoping to add pressure canning to the repertoire in the next year or two. And, hopefully, one day a freeze drier. 🤞🏻 So crazy how these skills have become almost foreign to us in just one missed generation!
Hey Bre! If you didn't know, Harvest Right has come out with the new home pro model of freeze driers, and if you have the older model, you can get a new rack for inside that has room for 5 trays instead of 4! You just have to call harvest right and tell them which model you have and they will send you the new interior rack! If you weren't aware, that would get you an extra tray for each batch. :)
Wow! I didn't know. Thanks😊
commenting so Bre can see this!
i caught myself taking deep breaths throughout this whole process it is indeed overwhelming even to watch. well done !! you really did an impressive work. i hope one day i can do that.
Great work! I hope you’ll do some “what we eat” style videos showing how you use your preserved items! I am especially interested in your freeze dried stuff!
I love your vibe and personality ❤ super amazing
Oh one more thing. For outside canning put all of your filled jars in a box and take the box outside instead of bringing the canner i side. You can use the same box to bring the jars back inside. I'm clumsy by nature and all I could invision was a hot canner mishap. You can let the jars cool outside in their box for a couple of hours too
This was so relaxing to watch. ❤️🥰 I'd love to see a video on your storage setup for the food. Your kitchen looks smallish for all the preserving you do! I want to get into it but need to increase my harvest and figure out where I'd store it all haha
I recently found your page and have been binge watching your videos... I'm in awe of how much information you have with gardening and preserving... Thank you so much for sharing the things you know 😊
That trick with the salad spinner okra de-slimer is genius! Thanks for sharing!!!
You go girl!!!. You are one the very few people that will be well prepared food wise for whats coming ahead... so keep going :)
That was a fun video 😊 Good for you!! Did you know you can leave your onion skins on the onion for your broth and it highlights the color of the finished product to be even more golden 👍❤️
Thanks for the tip! I used to do that all the time with veggie broth but somehow It slipped my mind!
I have pressure canned for years I have two all American the first one is was made in 1947 and the other was made in 1948 I had them for 20 years.
I have only 50 dollars in the two of them I bought them at farm actions no need to buy new.
Thats awesome!! Ive had this one already for 4 years and its great! I wanted to invest in something I could have or life and never found a used one in my area.
You are so organized Bre! 👍
Coucou 👋🏻 👋🏻 👋🏻
Superbe vidéo bravo, j'ai adoré 😊
A bientôt 👍
You are simply the best. Thank You
Where did you get your apron? I love the vintage vibes. It looks like something Ma Ingalls would wear 🩷🩷
Super impressive!!!! And motivating!! Thank you for sharing!!
Such a satisfying week Bre. I love the freeze dryer. I could have used one of those in years passed 🌻
This is awesome, this is only my 2nd year of gardening.. I’ve learned so much from you, thanks for this video..
I am so impressed with your red bells! Goals!
Gardening makes u even more beautiful! love ur content.
This was such a fun and motivating video to watch. Totally makes me want to go preserve something today! ❤
Thanks for watching!!
Perfect timing I just got the preserving book yesterday!
So rewarding growing and saving delicious food. Your a machine. I’m hoping to get a freeze dryer soon
Do you have a pantry tour? This is more intimidating to me than actually canning. How to keep it organized and know what you have and dated, etc. Thanks for sharing!
Great video! Something I do that has been a game changer for me is using a fat separator, so I don’t have to wait for my broth to cool to remove the fat. The particular fat separator I use has a button on the handle that I press and it opens up a hole at the bottom so that I can easily drain out the fat free broth and I can let the button go before it gets to where the fat begins. This allows me to go from the roaster oven directly to canning jars after straining it, of course.
Your videos are a journey into your creative world, my friend. The way you express ideas is both captivating and thought-provoking. And it's an honor to have you visit our channel, we can discuss more about our experiences in harvesting and building farms.
I loved this video. Preserving food is so much work, amazing job! I am far too lazy to chop my ingredients for salsa and use my food processor, just pulse it so it doesnt turn into soup lol. You're making me want a freeze dryer!
You are so inspiring girl! It's definitely a goal of mine to learn how to can! xx
Loved that I found you on Instagram. The video was great! Definitely want a freeze drier 100% Great job on sharing all the methods!
I use my water bath canner rack in my pressure canner to double stack. I also saw saw someone use a cut up aluminum foil roasting pan works great in a pinch
just ordered a lid wand. wow how have I been canning all these years and didn't know about that! a foodsaver would be a great tool for you as well. thanks for the video. very informative
Can you show in a video how to use all the stuff your preserving? For example how would you use the eggs or cherry tomatoes in recipes.
Hello. I noticed your gas flame was dirty yellow soot. Need to adjust the air to gas mixture, there is a adjustment close by the ON and OFF knob. Flame should always be a blue flame. Have good day.
Good job ❤
💚 Lots of great food preservation! Have you tried slicing the okra and freeze-drying without the blanching step? Great week's harvest! 💚
Great video! Just a note about your freeze dryer. I have one too. You really need to defrost it between each batch.😉
Look at all that beautiful, hard work! Everything came out looking so wonderful ❤.
What type of peppers are you using for your paprika and pepper flakes? & do you remember where you purchased the seeds?
I think you should do a cooking episode to show what it looks like to use these foods you dehydrated
Oh yeah, nicely done. Let's eat.
Use a Pyrex measuring cup with spout to scoop out liquid to pour into your empty jars. Easier than using a ladle and less messier !!!
Wow, what a great job! Any chance we can get a tour of you pantry?
Does your freeze dryer use a lot of electricity? Would you ever get solar panels to make it more efficient? Love your videos 💗 I can’t get enough!!
If you leave the onion peals on your onions they will tint your stock and really flavor it
noted! idk why i don't do that, I use to do it with veggie stock all the time!
@@itsbreellissame, I throw my onions in with peels and all. Same with garlic, just throw in the entire bulb. I cut it in half horizontally through the middle of all the cloves to release the flavor better but that's it
Lots of fun things!!💫 If you wanted good nutrient & collagen rich broth - place your chicken carcasses back into the broth lower heat to 250-300 low long slow cook. Once canned breaks down collagen but still nutrient rich. I love to freeze dry the collagen broth for making healthy cup when sick or used as boullion flavor to recipes😋
Hi Bre, does all okra have that slime coating thing?
Good morning 🌄👋🏾🙌🏾💪🏾🆒🫴🏾🤟🏾🙏🏾👍🏾🔜🆗🫵🏾
What is that little packet looking thing you added to your freeze dried basil jars?
Hi Bre! I don't come from a homesteading background but would really love to know where to start with canning and preserving. Do you have any books you could recommend or advise of where to start? Thanks
Do you make tomato powder from your freeze dried tomatoes? If you do can you use it for soup ??
How do you not choke on the cayenne scent when dehydrating. I have to put mine in a window with a fan or outside.
Can you tell us the type of pepper that you use for the paprika powder? Thank you :)
What do you use for oxygen absorbers?
Have you considered that you’re getting squash bugs because the soil you are growing them in is deficient in either a macro or a micro nutrient?
Where did you purchase your freeze dryer?
Freeze dried tomatoes absorb moisture Soooo fast, I only take out one tray at a time.
What size freeze drier do you have?
Hi I had been looking for a freeze drier but all the ones that i find are really big and expensive,do you have any recommendations for freez drier company’s
Am I the only one who don’t know anything about freeze drying? Maybe because I live in Europe 🤔
It is so hard to find that canning book here in Canada. Did anyone find a copy please?
Ok I have a dumb question. What do you use freeze dried eggs for? Just came across you jot to long ago and have enjoyed and learned so much from you. I am just getting into this and I am hooked. I have spent hours going back through a lot of your videos and enjoy everyone of them. Thank you for sharing your tips, tricks and knowledge with us.
I've seen some use them for scrambled eggs (mixed reviews on outcome). I've seen them used more for baking.
Great for camping - scrambled eggs !! Use in baking - just add water!! ❤
so what the sunflower for? very interested
Just for fun! Wanted to see how they would dry!
@@itsbreellis oh ok I’m trying to get into plant medicine thought maybe I was missing something
I also really want to know what you are planning on doing with the freeze-dried sunflower?
I have it hanging on my fridge! Thinking of putting a magnet behind it and making a dried flower magnet!
@@itsbreellis Ah, that makes sense, it is so beautiful! I was thinking you were going to eat it or reconstitute it for something.
She is absolutely my dream girl
just a note, citric acid isn't needed if you pressure can your tomatoes :)
Your videos in the kitchen are verrryyyy dark- more light please.
What do you use the freeze dried eggs for? 🤍
It's still showing up on your best way since the time check with vegetables and cooking and anything else ever sauces the jars awesome and great good grateful for you 😊😁🎉❤💪🏾🙌🏾🫵🏾🌹🆗🔜🔜🤟🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🤓🦻🏾🤲🏾🦻🏾👉🏾🫶🏾
