  • Hey guys! Welcome back to another video! Today I wanted to share my week of preserving all different kinds of food! Mostly grown in my backyard but I also had some help from a friend who has a farm. I snagged some extra eggs from her I was able to freeze dry, and some chicken I used for some broth making! I wanted to challenge myself to preserve something everyday (to some degree) for a week. Ive never attempted to put something back every single day. Typically if I preserve its a few days in the week and that's starts to wear me out. As my garden continues to grow ( and as im able to get more land 🤞🏻) Ill be preserving even more food this time of year so its time to start practicing what that will feel like! Hope you enjoy today's video!

I also didn’t know how to preserve food. I started with dehydrating and am working on fermenting and canning now. I’m hoping to invest in a freeze dryer someday! I love how you challenged yourself to can something daily. That makes it a lot less overwhelming!

Same here! My grandmother canned, but it was never a part of my upbringing. I started with waterbath canning. Just salsa the first year. Added jam and canned tomatoes the next. And then it just grew from there. Then I start fermenting, too. And, last year, we got our first dehydrator. Hoping to add pressure canning to the repertoire in the next year or two. And, hopefully, one day a freeze drier. 🤞🏻 So crazy how these skills have become almost foreign to us in just one missed generation!

Hey Bre! If you didn't know, Harvest Right has come out with the new home pro model of freeze driers, and if you have the older model, you can get a new rack for inside that has room for 5 trays instead of 4! You just have to call harvest right and tell them which model you have and they will send you the new interior rack! If you weren't aware, that would get you an extra tray for each batch. :)

Oh one more thing. For outside canning put all of your filled jars in a box and take the box outside instead of bringing the canner i side. You can use the same box to bring the jars back inside. I'm clumsy by nature and all I could invision was a hot canner mishap. You can let the jars cool outside in their box for a couple of hours too

Great video! Something I do that has been a game changer for me is using a fat separator, so I don’t have to wait for my broth to cool to remove the fat. The particular fat separator I use has a button on the handle that I press and it opens up a hole at the bottom so that I can easily drain out the fat free broth and I can let the button go before it gets to where the fat begins. This allows me to go from the roaster oven directly to canning jars after straining it, of course.

Lots of fun things!!💫 If you wanted good nutrient & collagen rich broth - place your chicken carcasses back into the broth lower heat to 250-300 low long slow cook. Once canned breaks down collagen but still nutrient rich. I love to freeze dry the collagen broth for making healthy cup when sick or used as boullion flavor to recipes😋
