Hi Bre! New Subbie here, I did plant garlic last fall and I harvested the scapes yesterday ❤️ I'm giving mine 3 more weeks then I'll harvest June 30. I'm so excited!! Great harvest btw!!
Yes! First time! I think I’m just seeing scapes form, SQUEEE! I planted in November because I saw the last pack at a garden at that time and decided to give it a try.
Haha love the enthusiasm! Garlic also has to be one of my favorite crops to grow :) Just something very satisfying about producing your own bulbs - I also love that it is a crop you can use for ~6-9 months if cured properly :) Also growing a full years supply from my own cloves this year! (about 100) Not as impressive as yours though xD
A super affordable excellent drying rack I discovered this year was a metal closet shelf that I got at goodwill attached to risers …chairs etc and lay them on the shelves with perfect airflow all the way around…this was my first year harvesting with out a doubt the easiest crop and giving so much back to us…practice makes perfect..not the size of yours but enough to bring smiles to our faces…stay blessed…
Good job! That's a lot of garlic. Just yesterday I planted 170 cloves, 85 for each of two 2' x 6' beds. I used a 4" spacing which looked adequate, but we'll see next year at harvest time. I planted both soft and hard neck here in zone 6 MI. Previously, the most garlic I ever planted was around 16 cloves, directly in the ground, so spacing wasn't an issue.
Hi Bre! I recently discovered your channel when I was looking for garden tours and I’m so happy I found yours! I can’t believe you don’t have a bigger audience! Your videos are amazing, I love your energy and how knowledgeable you are! Keep up the great videos! ❤
I’m growing garlic for the first time and your video has helped me with how to cure! I can’t wait to see how your preserve. I am definitely following for all the tips! Great page!!
I had to pause in the middle of this video and go harvest my garlic. 😂 I didn't grow nearly enough this year. I started making honey fermented garlic as medicine last year and now I need to grow more! Thanks for the motivation and entertainment. ❤
Hey Bre! Yes I am growing garlic for the first time this year [Hardneck]. I'm super excited to harvest them. Your videos have helped me have confidence during this process. I just started harvesting scaps this week. I made garlic scap salt and I love it!
This was recommended to me today which is funny, as I just harvested my garlic today. I thought my family used a lot of garlic but WHEW!! If 230 bulbs is a year's supply, even assuming you're saving a bunch for next year's planting, that's a 1/2 bulb of garlic eaten EVERY DAY at your house! 😅 I just grew 20 bulbs this year, hoping to save a couple bulbs to plant this fall, and that's about a year's supply for us. 😂
I’ve got 300 plants just about where these are. I always save the best garlic for seed and the small ones for cooking. I harvest a bit later than this but excited to see what I’ve got in about 2 weeks.
Yes, 74 mixed sets and 15 Elephand garlic! Soft necked garlic dies not grow well here in BC . I accidentally bought 2000 red onion sets, so 750 the smaller ones are in the freezer for stews and panfries, 300 were planted in various gardens and the rest were donated to the community gardens.
This year is my first time growing garlic - I have four stalks and they are almost ready to pull! Your videos have been very helpful to me! Thanks! 👍🏻💗 I would appreciate seeing how you make garlic powder if you have time to make a video on that.
I agree on 6” spacing. I cringe when I see people tout a 4” spacing but I am always justified when I see their dinky crop compared to mine. I expect to harvest mine in the next 7-10 days. It’s early for me too. Most years I harvest in the first half of July.
We are a few weeks behind here in Sheffield, UK but our small plot of garlic (mix of hard and soft neck) is doing really well. What are you going to put in your beds now that the garlic is out?
I’ve had no luck with garlic and I’ve tried planting it twice. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Do you have a place where you get your starts that you would recommend?
Does anyone have any advice they can offer? I have 30 large beautiful garlic plants and something is laying eggs in the center growth and little white larvae are hatching and eating the new growth. How do I protect the plants and will the bulbs still be good?
I grew garlic 🧄 for the first time in 2020, but the animals outside dig them up and eat them. I once again try last year and same thing happened. So this year I’ll try again, but I’ll have to come up with a better spot.
Its a cluster of all the hardneck varieties I grew last year. They all got mixed so I didn't keep them straight. I have some chesnok red, german white/red, lorz itailian, and a few others I cant remember their names
Congratulations Bre on such an amazing harvest!!!!! Two questions, who do you like to order your garlic from, when you had to order it before AND what type of sandals are you wearing? I love how minimal they look and flexible with your foot. I hate wearing shoes but have lots of bees out in the grass and clover and really don't want to step on them walking out to my garden. Those sandals look amazing. Thanks and congratulations again Garlic Girl 🧄👩🌾
Wow, impressive! This is my first year growing garlic and I was basically just testing to see if it would actually grow for me. And it did! Lol. 😀. I will be harvesting in the next week or so. This video is super helpful. I look forward to seeing your process once the garlic is cured. Thanks!
Are you growing garlic?

Yep hardneck also. We moved and I brought my garlic withand attempted to transplant it... It's hanging in there
Yes! First year growing ‘ elephant garlic’ along with reg garlic just harvested 2/3 of it this week! So excited for all the yummy garlic foods
Love this! Use "S" hooks to hang the garlic bunches up! It will go so fast that way!

I just started harvesting scaps this week. I made garlic scap salt and I love it!
Yum!! I need to try that next year!! So excited for you! Hope you have a great harvest this year!!
For drying prep, my mom suggests making a long braid - that way the garlic goes all the way down as though in a vine. Takes up less space!

Thanks for all the info! I can’t wait to harvest mine!!!
This was a very informative video! Thanks for covering the whole process. Excited to grow my own garlic :)
Great harvest- I need to give garlic a try!
Love the outro music!

Thank you!

Jealous! Nice. Been wonder'n when I should pull my garlic. I'm close, up in KC, and thinking this weekend! Those are beautiful bulbs.
Perfect timing! Thank you!
Just said to my husband last night.. “is this our year to try garlic for the first time?”
You totally should!
Can you do a video on where you store all the stuff you can?
Amazing harvest!!! Would you mind sharing How did you grow from your own seed ?
Congratulations on a big beautiful harvest! Man no vampires coming near you all!😊
Grabbing a spool of flexible wire and making hooks for hanging the garlic on the fencing will be much faster than tying each bundle to it.
Ooo, or just bend paper clips into hooks. Good idea
I was thinking “S” hooks and using less twine. Beautiful harvest Bre. Guess who’s trying garlic this year?! 🙋🏻♀️
@@pattilacroix4171 Yes, exactly, S hooks out of wire that can be removed, moved and created easily.
I grew garlic for the first time this year.

I just planted garlic in may didn’t know you had to plant in the fall? I live in Montana what should I do now 😅😂

Just curious, what sandals are those?
What hardneck garlic do you recommend??
what varieties did you grow and do you recommend?
I grow all hardback. A few of my personal favs are chesnok red, german red, and Lorz Italian.
I grew garlic 🧄 for the first time in 2020, but the animals outside dig them up and eat them. I once again try last year and same thing happened. So this year I’ll try again, but I’ll have to come up with a better spot.
man that stinks! Hope you have some better luck!

Ive ordered from mad river garlic growers in the past. and the shoes are earth runners! I love them for gardening!
@@itsbreellis Thanks so much for the information. Have a wonderful weekend.

This is exactly the comment I was looking for! I knew Bre said where she ordered her garlic from originally but I couldn't remember where!
