    Might want to check your manual. Pretty sure that you do NOT screw the dipstick back in for reading. You remove it, wipe it, put in in but only until it stops, then read.

    • @Marius-Gvr
      @Marius-Gvr 3 года назад +3

      On my tuono 1100, that is the correct way of measuring (only rest the dipstick on the thread, not screw it in). However, I know that on other aprilia models you need to screw the dipstick. I agree, double-checking the manual would be the correct way of proceeding.

    • @rudedog3529
      @rudedog3529 3 года назад +1

      @@CaliMotoTV The difference would be about the same as the upper and lower line on the dip stick. Top line , not screwed in got me 2.750 qts., yesterday.

  • @rudedog3529
    @rudedog3529 3 года назад +7

    For the sake of 2 more screws, the black plastic shroud could come off,
    giving easier access and visibility to the oil filter. I like to have the pans and tools ready,
    and drain the hot oil immediately on arrival.

    Thanks for the video! BTW, manual says you don't need to screw the dipstick in to check oil level, just put it in and remove.

  • @villea1841
    @villea1841 3 года назад +6

    It's easier and bit quicker to drain the oil when the engine is warm.
    Warm oil flows out easier and better.

    • @MotoGoato
      @MotoGoato 3 года назад +1

      Yes, Ville .... you are 100% correct ... warm oil has a lower viscosity so flows better. The proper way to drain the oil is get the engine hot, then shut it off and let it sit for about 15 / 20 minutes to allow all the oil to flow down through the engine and collect in the sump then drain it whilst it is still warm. Letting it go stone cold and trying to drain it when it's at it's thickest is just plain daft 😉

    • @TK-cl1jm
      @TK-cl1jm 3 года назад

      @@CaliMotoTV Yeah, no. You want the oil warm. It will stay warm for quite a while after it gets to the pan.

    Much prefer I sight glass to a dipstick though, I had the same on my 675R and hated it.
    Sight glass on my 899 is so much quicker and easier.

    if you go "hand tight" on the oil filter... you might want to check that again after you run the engine hot... they can slowly loosen up... I prefer to get them a bit tighter than my "hand tight"... as those rubber seals age that "hand tight" can become a problem, just my $0.02 from seeing them come loose at Track Events!

      Rick, that is a digital torque adapter PTM206, about $60. I purchased a similar one AC Delco ARM602-4, about the same price. It works very well and the low range is lower than the PTM206. The only issue I have is that they advertise a low range of 4 ft lbs. My experience was that it is more like 17 ft lbs. If you have a standard click type, you can use one of these for calibration.

  • @QuasiMotard
    @QuasiMotard 3 года назад

    It's nice to see that Aprilia included a magnetic drain bolt from the factory! (I'm presuming that's what the small tip on the drain plug is, anyway). I've done the same thing with all of my street and race bikes for the last 35 years... change early, and change often! The first 200-300 miles is when the engine is polishing up the reciprocating parts, so you'll find lots of small metallic debris in the oil... it's smart to get that out of the sump ASAP! Oil is cheap, motors aren't. 👍👍 --QM

    Did you really use 300v??? It’s recommended only as a race engine oil so doesn’t contain the detergents and stabilisers that the 7100 motul fully synth oil does. Fine I guess if it’s literally going to be changed every 1000 miles, but questionable for road use at lower temps. Personally I’d stick to motul 7100 and know that the oil stays stable for longer
