People should give more credit to Roger Taylor drummer unbelievable background vocals and drumming. Next you should do their performance in Live Aid 1985, also Queen & David Bowie, “Under Pressure” live.
yep, Roger's voice is sailing away up above Freddie's to create that harmonious type effect in a live setting. They compliment each other very well. & if there was a situation where Freddie could not quite hit the note, Roger just slide right in & took over. What a talented group.
The main difference between live and recording.. with Queen.. is that on the recordings they multi-track A LOT.. and Freddie does a lot of the multiple voices.. vs live - we get to hear Roger’s incredible voice even more.. and them, as a band, being so in-sync with each other!! They’re amazing. NO BODY better live..

I absolutely love this performance. Roger (drummer) really kicks it up with his constant vocals during this one, John (bass) is holding down the back end. I can never say enough good words about Brian's guitar skills, I love him still today when he is better than ever and Freddie proves why is is a true legend. Outstanding job by the entire band which is typical of Queen live. Thank you for your great reaction.
Freddie rightfully gets most of the praise when people talk about queen. And Brian May is pretty widely known as one of the best guitarists ever. But Roger Taylor and Brian May don't get nearly the recognition they deserve for their overall contributions. Between the two of them they wrote the vast majority of Queen's songs as well as many others they wrote for other bands. And they both make huge contributions with vocals on a lot of them.
It was a god given moment when these 4 guys found each other. This is by far - hands down - the best live band of all time. There were a lot of great bands from this era, but nobody else could deliver this kind of live performance and nobody else had Freddie. The band is great - period. Please listen to The March of the Black Queen from the Queen II album 1974. This is, in my opinion the best song they ever did, although they only ever played a small section of the song live, as part of a medley. You'll see the talent level at it's finest in this song.
I love how you stop when Freddie hits those first notes. Yes, that's when you realize that his voice is not the result of autotune or studio tinkering, it really was that good. It's said of his voice that he could reach the furthest seats in Wembley stadium because his voice was so powerful. As for the rest of the band and how it worked, well it was just magic. They really came together as one thing to make music even when live. It's like these very different personalities gelled for this magical time period to produce something wonderful and we were around to hear it.

Great reaction! Answering your question: On stages, Freddie always drank a lot of water, and a mix of lemon and honey for his voice. When backstage, he would take strepsis pills and would do some inalations as well. He had tons of problems with his throat, so, he had to take absolute care of it. Even if Freddie used a lot of drugs and alchool, ironically, he was very careful, profissional, and never used anything before or during the shows. After an unforgetable first and only time, when he basically forgot his own name, what to say about the lyrics, they NEVER let him drink anything alchoolical on stages, ever again. Let's just say, he learned his lesson. After the shows, however, he was a free man. Brian and Roger would sip on beer once or twice, but they never were drunk on the shows. And they both stopped drinking (and smoking, in Roger's case) just a few years after this. John, however, was another completelly different matter: He's absolutelly too shy to enter a stage as anything but totally smashed, so, he had his own bar behind his amp. But unlike Freddie, it never stopped him from being the best in anything he did. He never had any problem playing his bass or dancing like there was no tomorrow, and never lost a beat, even when he couldn't even walk in a straight line. For your next reactions, I strongly suggest Queen in Live Aid, 1985. If you liked them on live, you'll LOVE that. It was a 20 mins beneficent show. It had a mixed crowd, no one there had a fanbase, so, great artists were booed if not giving a good enough show, and everyone who was someone was there (Paul McCartney, David Bowie, The Who, Status Quo, just for you to imagine...). Queen basically leveled everyone (they even were attacked backstage because of it). Then, the next reaction I'll reccomend for you is "I Want To Break Free". You will... laugh... A LOT. The song was writen by John Deacon (yeah, the super shy bassist... Everyone thought it was Freddie's creation, but nope) and the video is simply hilarious.
His drinks on the piano, though they look like beer, were juices and teas meant to keep his throat clear and keep him hydrated. The fact that they looked like beer was just a bonus!

I admire studio recordings (tinker, create your best at the moment - your historical record launching that song). But once you start playing it live, it takes on new life. Queen thrived playing live. It wasn't 4 guys up there lost in their own world of music...it was 4 bandmates working to deliver and entertain....they wanted their music to make people happy. Simply a kind of magic. (Yes, there's a song & album named that too.)
Freddie's homage to Aretha Franklin and gospel music. He loved Aretha...he also wrote Crazy Little Thing Called Love as an homage to his other idol Elvis Presley.
If you haven’t already, you MUST check out Queen’s live performance at the 1985 Live Aid benefit. It was an all day concert held in London and Philadelphia simultaneously. More than 60-70 acts performed. To this day, Queens performance is considered by many to be the best live set ever performed. It’ll blow you away.
What an entertainer Freddie was!! Incredible singer/pianist/guitarist/songwriter too!! I particularly loved the drummer Roger Taylor - magnificent!! Ofcourse Brian May, lead guitarist, & John Deacon bass guitarist were incredible too!! What a band!! Love you QUEEN!!! 💝💝💝💝
Freddie really admired Aretha Franklin. In one interview he said her singing seemed effortless,so he came up with Somebody to Love (one of his personal favorites) with that gospel sound.
I'd rather hear Queen live than listen to the studio version. The only thing they couldn't do live was the operatic part of Bohemian Rhapsody. If you look at Paul McCartney and Wings you can see that their live shows were how do we make it sound as much like the album as possible. They did a very good job of that. Queen's strategy was how can we make it better than the studio version. They do an amazing job of that.
The joy on your face throughout the song makes me so happy. It reminds me when I first heard this song. Enjoy the experience of listening to Queen songs for the first time, it's a lot of fun!
Hi, I love your reaction. The new generation must know more about queen to appreciate good music. I recommend Love of my life, both in Montreal 91 and Wembley 1986. Also Under Pressure in wembley 86, on June 12. It will leave you with your mouth open. Enjoy it.
I seen them live in 1979 at Madison square garden. I have seen many concerts before and after, that concert was so outrageous and the crowd was so into the music I was afraid the garden was going to collapse it was incredible!
Roger is a tremendously talented drummer and takes his craft very seriously. He's the only rock drummer I've ever heard of that takes the trouble to tune his drums before each concert to make sure he's getting exactly the sound he wants out of each of them.
The look on your face was priceless throughout this entire reaction.🙂It is pretty amazing to see Queen perform live. Unbelievable talent from everyone in this band.
Great reaction! I've seen this many times but I still get goosebumps watching someone else enjoy it for the first time. As for the cups, I heard in a documentary that it wasn't beer, it was tea with honey in it for his voice.
I suggest you watch the song "Save Me" from this same show. It was a new song off the Game album. I saw them during this tour at Madison Square Garden in September 1980.
Watch a Queen concert and you'll see they are Legendary performers - serving their fans what they paid to see...great music and entertainment without a break. Yep, they stay hydrated but not to stay 'high'. Men at Work. The best. Edit...7/1/22..yep I'm back....wait'll you see/hear Freddie @6 yrs after this sing with Opera Diva Montserrat Caballe'. a solo project of his (not Queen). . .The album is "Barcelona"...great Album but that song, "Barcelona" plus "Golden Boy" plus "How Can I go On". Listen to them. . .whether you react or not. Whether you like/dislike Opera or not.
Still to this day gives me chills hearing this man sing. The good ole days. Queen was on another level. FAT BOTTOM GIRLS will always be my favorite if u haven't reacted to it I hope u consider to do so
Thanks for your reaction! Queen is fun because their 'studio' recordings/official videos" are perfect YET are different from their live concerts. Queen is a dish you can serve any way you want to. If you hear them perform a studio song that you like, I almost guarantee that you will find you LOVE the live concert version more. No two are the same. All of them are amazing. Have fun! Lots of great rock bands out there to explore.
He’s sipping on honey and water for his vocal cords . One of Queens trademarks was the cups on the piano. What you will notice when Freddie takes a sip it is always the cup you cannot see through. Honey and water ❤️🩹
With show time approaching, towels and drinks for the band’s refreshment on stage would now be strategically placed: water and beer for Fred, beer for Brian and Roger and the Backstage Bar for John, comprising water, beer, soft drinks, wine and whatever spirit or cocktail he fancied at the time: Southern Comfort, vodka or tequila. - Peter Hince (aka Ratty), Fred’s and John’s roadie and head of Queen’s crew.
Freddie always kept tea with honey on the piano during long concerts to keep his throat from drying out. He liked beer but said he would never drink it during a performance and risk burping into the mic, it would be disrespectful to the audience.
There's a new Queen video just released 6/29/22 - "Love of My Life" - Live in Budapest '86. Its a beautiful version of that song and Freddie sounds fantastic!!👏 🔥❤
Queen had some friction with the company that was recording this concert to distribute as an album. Before the concert started they had instructed the audience NOT to clap their hands or stamp their feet or sing along during the songs. One Freddie found out about that he made sure to encourage them to make as much noise as possible!
thanks, Greg! widely known as one of the best live performances ever! See more from the same concert when you have time & inclination -- Freddie was amazing, but this is a BAND.. every single one of them was incredible... look forward to more..
Hi, Deb! going out to Boston for work soon... so may be out of touch for a week or two.. but love you and your fam.. be in touch before & after I go.. xoxoxoxo
Great reaction vid. They are always better live, they were better than the editing equipment. That's why I tell people if you find you do not like a recorded song that you hear, to revisit it in a live version if it's available. For me, I was not a big fan of their song "White Queen" out of the studio, or "Radio Gaga" But....when I saw them do it live, well "White Queen" played the hell out of my soul, especially their interlude, and "Radio Gaga" has much more energy in it live. I don't think it's just the fact Freddie was a human auto tune, (I mean he couldn't hit a wrong note if he tried and if he ever did, even that off note came out beautiful and it worked because no one apparently noticed...lol) but it was the energy of the whole band and their chemistry. Queen still plays today with Adam Lambert as their singer (much respect because he doesn't "try" to be Freddie, he's just himself) And even though they are still very good, without Freddie and John Deacon the chemistry is not the same and no other band will be able to replicate the chemistry the four had. It always amazed me how Roger (drummer) could hit his beat with such power yet still keep them soft enough as to not overpower the other instruments, he was definitely under rated, and I believe is one of the best drummers of all time. Brian (Lead guitar) either this year of last he was named the best guitarist of all time, stating he never hit a wrong cord, however they were all so humble, and Brian still is when he disagreed with being called the greatest, he believed Hendrix was. John Deacon, aside from being a kick ass bassist and an engineer, inventing the amp the group used which gave them a special sound (and yet to be replicated) I do not know much about. But as you watch him you'll come to learn that I think he wanted it that way, because he was never one for the spotlight, he was content just hanging back playing his bass, which is why it was ALWAYS treat when you'd catch him really getting into a song...lol Queen was a once in a life time band, especially for fans because they put them first, made sure they knew how much they were loved, and because they loved them so much they gave nothing but 100% and would probably do so for a crowd of just 50 people as they did for the 70 thousand that were at the "live aid 85" benefit. Stay in this rabbit hole, you are going to be amazed by every twist and turn because you don't know what your going to get, or what genre they will throw you in until you hear it ;) Glad you find them and hope you enjoy. Welcome to the Queen Army!
We all tend to fall in love with a version of a song that we hear first. I love the studio version the best. However this is such a great performance that I see why people like this over the studio version :)
Most bands back then all sounded like there albums. We were bless with a mountain of awesome music, real musicians without auto tune. Enjoying the ride Cheers bro🍻
They were always feeling it. This song in particular shows their versatility. There are many different recorded performances of this song & each is unique. The intro & end were always different & unscripted. A number of great performances from this show. BoRap, love of my life, dragon attack, play the game to name a few. Great reaction.
From what I've heard, Freddy always had water, tea and beer at hand when performing. Useful depending on what the throat needs at the moment. Also, Even though there were four giants up there, I have to give some love to the fifth most important person on stage for that song; the stagehand that gave Freddy his mic when he needed it and took it back when he was done. Perfectly timed!
The group never wanted any song sounding exactly the same as the records, they didn't see the point, always very different even between concerts, if you hear it from say Milton Keynes ( pronounced Keens) or Sydney, Rio or anywhere else it'll sound very different, they're one of the first groups who included everyone in their music, quite a few of their music videos have invited fans taking part right from the early days in the 70's,, they've never been a group sticking with one sound, and it helps that they all written songs throughout the years you've got some 250-ish songs on albums, then solo careers with three of them which ran along side Queen, they never split up, just took a break as for many years they would write, record, release the album go out on tour and repeat so after around 12 years they released solo albums and got back into the studio as a foursome, I can say you'll have heard the majority of the songs somewhere, but never assume that Freddie is the leader of the group or that he wrote everything
Nice to meet you son! First time watching....Queen was indeed amazing! I truly appreciate your point about live performances. I was blessed to be a teen in the 70s and yes...they had to knock it out of the ballpark without any technical support. The live version of him with David Bowie is another gem. Thank you for sharing! 😽💋🎶

Best live band ever, IMO! Thanks for the reaction! I hope you'll do more live Queen!
Enjoy it.
Pure talent on that stage.
I seen them live in 1979 at Madison square garden. I have seen many concerts before and after, that concert was so outrageous and the crowd was so into the music I was afraid the garden was going to collapse it was incredible!
1986 live at Wembley, Under Pressure. Live Aid 1985, Cool Cat, A Winters Tale (one of his very last recordings) The list goes on. Fab reaction.
Miss Freddie. Lordy what a voice 😮. What a band! ❤
Great reaction! I've seen this many times but I still get goosebumps watching someone else enjoy it for the first time.
As for the cups, I heard in a documentary that it wasn't beer, it was tea with honey in it for his voice.
Now im here at Wembley
This performance never gets old! Like 3 encores in one song!🔥🔥🔥
Loved your joy watching this!!
They say he drank lemon water btw😉
Freddie loved opera and there’s a performance with him and a famous opera lady singing opera together and they had become great friends.
Thanks, Donnalea - I like that "dish served" comparison.. lol
Loved his book.
When his voice can match the register of the drums... So powerful.
Or the parts where the backup vocals are harmonizing not only with Freddie but also the guitar. It's the same note, and they all hold it.
STUPENDOUS!!!! performance. great reaction!!
Live Aid concert is THE GREATEST!! That one video to the right on your screen across from Freddy is RamJam.. “Black Betty”!! A BIG MUST!!! 😁🎶❤️
This is the third video of yours I've watched and I'm now convinced: we've found the missing Murphy brother. Amazing resemblance.
Queen had some friction with the company that was recording this concert to distribute as an album. Before the concert started they had instructed the audience NOT to clap their hands or stamp their feet or sing along during the songs. One Freddie found out about that he made sure to encourage them to make as much noise as possible!
Just true talent, instrumental, vocal and showmanship!
thanks, Greg! widely known as one of the best live performances ever! See more from the same concert when you have time & inclination -- Freddie was amazing, but this is a BAND.. every single one of them was incredible... look forward to more..
Hello beautiful!! 🌿🌸💝
Hi, Deb! going out to Boston for work soon... so may be out of touch for a week or two.. but love you and your fam.. be in touch before & after I go..
Just two remarks: Deaky didn't just Play bass, je wrote several of their digest Hits and I can't stand Lambert.
Definitely react to Live Aid 1985. Queen’s performance is considered probably the greatest live performance of all time
I've read Freddie was sick and was adviced by his doctor not to sing. If one takes that in consideration it is mindblowing
Your next reaction should be to their performance during "Live Aid" concert in July 1985. This was the best 30 minutes ever.
Freddie never drank beer on stage. It's tea with honey for his throat.
This song is probably the greatest Rock Gospel song ever done, beautifully performed as only Queen could ever do
We all tend to fall in love with a version of a song that we hear first. I love the studio version the best. However this is such a great performance that I see why people like this over the studio version :)
Freddie truly was one of a kind! That voice!
Most bands back then all sounded like there albums. We were bless with a mountain of awesome music, real musicians without auto tune. Enjoying the ride Cheers bro🍻
Love bohemian rhaposody makes me go cold all over. We lost Freddie far too young. Such an iconic band
They were always feeling it. This song in particular shows their versatility.
There are many different recorded performances of this song & each is unique. The intro & end were always different & unscripted.
A number of great performances from this show. BoRap, love of my life, dragon attack, play the game to name a few.
Great reaction.
Greg, thanks for another great reaction. You have a real talent for helping your team appreciate great music!
There will never be another Freddie! Unbelievable talent 🌟🌟
I saw Queen at LiveAid and Ive seen dozens of bands live, nothing has ever come close to seeing them live
The mic pass guy to Freddie deserves a medal of some kind! 😂🎤😂❤️💯
Best live band ever.
I had the pleasure of seeing their very last concert ever, at Knebworth Park in 1986.
They were amazing as always.
This was awesome! 😊😊 love your reaction! Thank you :)
The entire band was and is incredible even their work today.
Always amazes me how he always stops dead on time. Brilliant performance.
Listen to Queen WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS
The group never wanted any song sounding exactly the same as the records, they didn't see the point, always very different even between concerts, if you hear it from say Milton Keynes ( pronounced Keens) or Sydney, Rio or anywhere else it'll sound very different, they're one of the first groups who included everyone in their music, quite a few of their music videos have invited fans taking part right from the early days in the 70's,, they've never been a group sticking with one sound, and it helps that they all written songs throughout the years you've got some 250-ish songs on albums, then solo careers with three of them which ran along side Queen, they never split up, just took a break as for many years they would write, record, release the album go out on tour and repeat so after around 12 years they released solo albums and got back into the studio as a foursome, I can say you'll have heard the majority of the songs somewhere, but never assume that Freddie is the leader of the group or that he wrote everything
best band ever!
😽💋🎶
I always watch them live when I can. It's interesting to watch the four of them and how they add to the support they give to each other.
