And when I get to feeling sorry for myself that I live far enough from my granddaughter that I can only go see her twice a year. So I think of Maria’s mom and dad - who we have seen on this channel having fun. But they live in Russia. That is a LOT farther from Mila than I am to my granddaughter. I also love it, Maria, when your parents are visiting because your accent gets primarily Russian when they are there!! And I know how that feels, as I am from Texas, didn’t move out of the state until 25. This is so interesting as a Finnish person, because most of our traditional foods come from Russia and Sweden. It's very similar but little things are different. My fav of all russian cuisine is pelmeni and traditional fermented garlic cucumbers👌♥️

Most of us in the Slavic atmosphere grew up on it and have a slightly different version of the same salad. So maybe not on every holiday table but on Christmas table- absolute necessity 😊

As a Romanian, I recognize almost all of the dishes you were talking about, since they are part of our cuisine too! I would die without my borsch and without my fermented foods. I remember watching all your other Russian foods videos and feeling like home :D. Some of these are definitely an acquired taste, but we Eastern Europeans love our sour food, not too sweet sweets and the sour cream whipped creams. My favorite spread is called "zacusca" here and looks very similar to yours, only ours has eggplants and bell peppers as a base.

Every time Maria shares a Russian dish I’m always excited to see if I grew up eating it lol I was born in the Azerbaijan part of Iran and literally grew up with grandma’s borsch (def acquired taste), salad olvieh, and the yogurt cucumber soup AND THE ROULETTE CAKES, you can literally get pounds at any Persian store haha. Also the brand Krakus is a polish brand and you pronounce it correctly. ;) This kind of borsch you're mentioning is called in Poland an Ukrainian borsch. I can't remember the names of things but they make this delicious meatloaf and potato salads, everything has so much flavour and shameless amounts of garlic. Best food I've ever eaten! Krakus is Polish, from my hometown actually - Krakow :) we do have similar cuisine to Russian , even “bird milk” exists here too ! I totally get and share your food pallet ! all sweet or pickled 😂😘
