Everyone is like “he turned down the matrix for this.” Tbh he fits this movie more than he would have fit the matrix, plus that film probably comes out the worse for it.
Some of the laziest steampunk writing ever: sticking a steam engine on something makes it plausible. Motorized wheel chair? Stick a steam engine on it. Giant spider? Stick a steam engine on it. They probably had a steam powered supersonic jet planned for the sequel. At least they didn't have everyone wearing goggles.
Smith just revealed his regret that he was in this movie, he said i regret it but i was trying to be a movie star. Honestly I really like this movie, i don't know why he hated being a star in it.
If you were alive in 1999 you couldn't ignore the saturation marketing this film got. You were pretty much guaranteed to see the trailer multiple times an hour watching TV.
For me, it’s one of the biggest question marks in cinematic history, full of stuff that doesn’t match up, despite having some ok moments. The movie was panned by critics (17% on Rotten Tomatoes) and audiences. It was nominated for 9 razzies, ultimately “winning” five: • Worst Picture • Worst Director for Barry Sonnenfeld • Worst Screenplay • Worst Screen Couple for Kevin Kline and Will Smith • Worst Original Song - Wild Wild West by Will Smith, Dru Hill and Kool Moe Dee (little fun fact: The star of the original Wild Wild West TV Show Robert Conrad, who played Jim West, arrived in person to collect the awards to express his disgust to the movie) and was nominated for 4 more but it didn’t succeed: • Worst Actor for Kevin Kline (Lost against Adam Sandler in Big Daddy) • Worst Supporting Actor for Kenneth Branagh (Lost against Ahmed Best as Jar Jar Binks in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace) • Worst Supporting Actress X2 for Salma Hayek and Kevin Kline as a prostitute (both lost against Denise Richards in 007: The World Is Not Enough)
If they did it right, it could be HUGE! Everyone wanted to like this movie so bad after the Men in Black movie. Guarantee a ton of people would give it a second chance, especially if they added a bunch of references to why the first movie was bad in joke form.
Studios make around 50% of the total box office back, the rest goes to the theaters or elsewhere. Plus you have to estimate around 30% more than the $170 million because of advertising (conservative number). So more accurately: Original estimated budget: $221 million Box Office Returns: $110.6 million Huge loss.
That's actually not true, theaters make next-to-nothing on ticket sales, which is why they have to make enough money to operate through ridiculous concession prices.
Wild Wild West most defiantly belongs in the category for movie so bad its starts becoming amazing catagory How can you honestly tell me Tarantino didn't borrow heavily from this film for inspirational purposes D'Jango starts off with a Slave who becomes a Bounty Hunter who wears a flamboyant pimp suit

Now that CBS and Paramount have had a few years under common ownership (in a way they are still sister companies) I think Paramount should try and make a better movie version of this series (to some people).
I don't care what anyone says, this is a great trailer. And it's not that bad a film either. It's very very flawed, but I'd much rather watch this than Men in Black 2.

It's OK. I usually like Smith and like Kline a lot but here they had pretty weak material and came off as too annoying too often.
It seems like only 1990s critics hated it. In retrospect, it was excellent.
